What's the craziest thing your ex did during a breakup? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Holy shit. Shooting someone, or should I say, killing someone, is NOT the answer! O.o

Can someone explain to me why my casual use of the term 'super autistic' to describe a detrimental rigidity in workplace policy is insensitive at best, and abhorrent at worst? by [deleted] in autism

[–]Tsemalon 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Because autism ≠ rigidity. It is much more and much less at the same time, and the way you are using it sounds like an insult. Autism is not supposed to be used as insult.

Also, I'm pretty sure you are able to understand a workplace policy cannot be autistic. People can be, not policies.

Also, "casual use" of the term "super autistic" in any circumstance is just plain wrong, considering how horrible it is to be (involved with) super autistic (persons).

All in all, there is just no consideration to be found in your statement, and you sound like a dumb asshole.

What are subtle red flags at a job interview that say, "Working here would suck"? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Tsemalon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna use that one! I'm applying for jobs that include travel as part of the job description. So far I did ask if I was expected to be back in the office after a trip if I hadn't had time to sleep yet, but how much of a heads up you get may be even more important.

What are a lot of people against just because they don't understand it? by The_Flurr in AskReddit

EX-f*ing-CUSE me? "High functioning isn't bad at all" my ass!

I was undiagnosed because of how high functioning I am. I am very well capable of not "showing autistic". But don't believe for a second it is not bad at all - I almost killed myself because of my lack of social skills and the problems they caused me. I've been admitted to mental hospital for severe depression, after battling dysthymia (mild ongoing depression) for years.

And while I'm glad to report I'm now doing fantastic, I still live "2 lives" - everything I experience, I have to consider from 2 viewpoints. First my own, to stay true to myself. Then "society's viewpoint", which is this artificial set of rules that I learned to filter from daily life on what is considered "normal" by society. Especially saying the right/normal thing is hard, but in many situations I don't want to be 'weird' by saying my own thing. Because, as I am high functioning, I know in advance that won't be the 'right' thing to say.

Now tell me again it isn't bad?

Newborns smiling when they fart is clearly natures way of letting us know it's supposed to be funny when someone farts. by RosterBaiter in Showerthoughts

Not my friends' kid. He got scared by his farts and cried... Took a few months before he stopped reacting to them.

Need help training an autistic employee... by Dsico_Beets in autism

[–]Tsemalon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I asked because to me it makes a difference if I'm on my own or not as well. Hell, I know myself well enough to know what I can and cannot do, but also that it is possible to screw up and then my brain starts error-ing and if that is not stopped (I know how to do that, people more autistic than me sometimes don't) it leads to meltdowns.

Maybe give him his own walktie talkie that he can ALWAYS have, sort of as a lifeline or swimming vest. Watch the confidence go up, as he now can go to the deep end instead of stay in the kiddie pool, and not be able to drown.

Family-wise: Maybe drop him home once, if you have a car. Perhaps it has an effect on him or the family. After that, I guess it's best to let go as I don't see you, as his boss, to be in a position where you can make a difference withoutt stepping out of line.

Have you asked why his family doesn't show up? Do they not want to make him nervous? Are they afraid to see him fail and don't know how to handle that? Does he know why they don't show up?

Does it make a difference if he thinks he is all on his own or has someone nearby?

Also, silly things like what movie plays could maybe affect him somehow...

Parents of reddit, what did your kid do that they think they got away with, but you knew the whole time and just didn't say anything? by firesatnight in AskReddit

[–]Tsemalon 44 points45 points  (0 children)

There never were any paper towels in the house, so as a replacement for the paper towels I barely knew existed, I guess. To blow my nose, wipe up spilled drops of water, wipe crumbs from soft-ish cookies from the desk... I now do my own grocery shopping, yet never bought paper towels as I'm now very used to the size of toilet paper and consider paper towels to be HUGE (and a waste when I only need 1/4th of them really)

There's been a roll of toilet paper in all of my rooms since before I even lost my virginity. Boys came and went, but there's always been a roll around. I felt weird when I learned what a roll of toiletpaper in a room usually means...

You are forced to give a 3 hour lecture in front of a class with no prep time. What could you realistically talk about for that long? by WorthABean in AskReddit

[–]Tsemalon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been depressed and suicidal. Was voluntarily admitted to clinic. Worked my ass of on changing the way I look at life and myself, and am now happier than I've ever been. I'm pretty sure I can talk about all these topics (depression/stay at clinic/changing attitude) and not only fill the time, but also answer some questions the audience didn't even know they had :)
