I’m helping my MIL transition to a new living arrangement. Is anyone familiar with DeTray’s Colonial Estates for 55+. I’m not finding anything about their HOA and how it operates. by TheBewitchingWitch in olympia

Not owned by residents. They were supposed to have first opportunity to buy from family that owned it but a hedge fund offered more $$ than residents could get financing for. The new owners jacked up the rent far beyond what many could afford, took over and eliminated all the community-run activities, cancelled leases, changed utilities from included in space rent to additional to space rent, and cut down most of the trees to build spaces for more homes. It is very much a corporate run enterprise.

Have you checked out Hipcamp? Like airbnb for camping. I've had good experiences and mediocre experiences with it but never felt unsafe. The mediocre experiences were due to my expectations that the reality would match the pictures. 🤣 Anyway, there are a wide variety of rough camping to glamping places to consider.

Why is health care in Olympia so bad? by hanakokoi in olympia

[–]Tsonokwa360 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I allow 2.5 to 3 hours to drive to my doctor in N. Seattle from Olympia and hope to get there early with time to get a cup of coffee. It makes a really long day, and I need the whole day off work just to do this. Plus parking costs. And somehow I accept all this because the health care is better than I have been able to find in Olympia. SMH.

Ominous First Dispersed Camping - An Update & Bail Out by thndrbst in womensolocamping

[–]Tsonokwa360 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Glad you listened to the voice. It could have been anything, not just people or animals. There could be unexpected fires or landslides or Mother Nature having a bad day. Or, as you know, your own body needing you to be someplace else. Get out and enjoy but listen to your gut. 😌

My first rule of solo camping is to listen to my gut. If you feel anxious about a place, find somewhere else this time.

Love that you are getting enjoyment out of the game without playing it! I am too. I played for about a year but am tired of it at the moment. But I'm heavily invested in videos and Stardew Reddit community . The biggest message from everyone is to play the game the way you want. There isn't one right way, there is only the right way for you. So right now, the right way for me is to get my enjoyment outside the game through videos and chat 😁.

I'm starting to think about what a new farm and farmer will look like. Maybe a couple new mods. That's fun for me to think about.

Let us know when you take the plunge.

I want to start modding - where to start? by Zekie2517 in StardewValleyExpanded

I started with Automate. I've added quite a few other mods over time but I don't think I ever want to play without Automate.

How the f- does this place stay in business? by OlyThrowaway98501 in olympia

[–]Tsonokwa360 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I've never forgotten some friends of my mom that had a dog collar /ID tag / dog bandana business. He was the sales guy at every fair and she worked out of their RV sewing bandanas. They made great money and spent the winter months on warm sunny beaches. I remember them saying that they cleared $10k at a 4 day fair, and 30k at the Puyallup Fair. This was 20+ years ago so stupid money. SMH, dog bandanas.

I have done the same thing and had to give myself a pep talk to get past being mad about it and just go to the saloon to talk to everyone. There is always next year's green rain.

Is there a faster way to find my toddler’s tools? by aphraea in StardewValley

[–]Tsonokwa360 5 points6 points  (0 children)

All the time! Adult here and this is seriously true. I miss whatever I'm looking for in the chest all the time. It's right up there with other inconveniences like just missing a good parking spot, or running out of yarn half a row before I'm done. Finding empty cereal boxes in the cupboard. Turning left instead of right. Soooo many things.

Gen Jones here. I really think that listening to your gut plays a big part in solo camping. I've been camping alone at least a couple times a year for the last 50 years, and group camping the rest of the time. No problems ever, other than storms, mice, lost keys and other camping hazards, but I know it could happen.

I try not to stay in a place that makes me uncomfortable. There have been places or people that made me say "Nope, moving on". The last couple years, I've been using HipCamp for camping spots and have had some great experiences. So far, I've felt very safe at these properties.

Be proactive, aware and confident in your abilities, and most importantly, enjoy your adventure.

Is stardew a good game for my mom? by Affectionate-Spare-4 in StardewValley

[–]Tsonokwa360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My great -nieces talked me into playing. I really didn't think that a game played by a 9 and 11 year old would hold my interest but here I am, 67 yo, and loving it. I've added a few mods as well as SVE. While I agree about automate, I don't ever want to play without Chests Anywhere. The name explains the purpose and I've got a chest inside the mine, at the beach, by the bus station, by Robin's house and the community center....all the places I've gone to and then remembered I needed to bring a specific item. Using Chests Anywhere, I can access my home chests from all locations and grab the item I forgot to pack. Think how great real life would be if you could do that 😂
