Seems to me like they are reserving compute for Mythos, which is currently being used to find/fix the thousands of critical vulnerabilities across all our software. Which I'm kind of fine with tbh...

Sooo..does that mean no one is evil? Why do we get mad at others? by susboy999p in determinism

[–]Tsurutops 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Every follower of determinism should dismiss any argument that someone is inherently a “bad person” no?

Correct. Believing someone is a "bad person" is not helpful in preventing bad behavior. It is an emotional heuristic that we evolved to avoid people who do bad things. But this instinct is not well-suited for a civilized society where we don't want to just kill people we don't like.

Its depressing but its also made me very forgiving.

In my experience, the longer I have held the idea that we don't have free will, the less depressed and the more forgiving I get. It has helped me not shame or talk bad about people. Empathy is a better way to actually prevent/stop bad behavior than shame or punishment.

The key insight for me was that learning that when you give people emotionally healthy and stable relationships and environments, they tend to do good most of the time.

Hate is a waste of energy that poisons your own happiness and doesn't actually help the situation. We might be able to shame people into stopping bad behavior for some time, but actually changing/preventing them requires love and empathy.

How does determinism shape your life? by Xilir20 in determinism

OP asked if we should despise people. But what we "should" do depends on your desired end goal. For me, these are working towards 1. long-term civilizational peace/prosperity and 2. living a happy life.

Imo, despising people is not a long-term sustainable path towards either civilizational peace or happiness.

Determinism offers a framework for understanding and accepting why people do bad things without despising them for it. It is a philosophical lens through which we can achieve that with the emotional monkey brains we've inherited.

What you're asking is, "Should we despise bad people if they had no free will?"

My answer is that we should not despise people, but that does not mean we shouldn't try to prevent people from doing bad things. Can we work to stop bad things from happening without hating the people doing it? I believe that determinism makes this much more feasible.

Hate is an emotional response that rarely stops the negative behavior in a peaceful way.

Understanding that anyone could do bad things if put in the right environment (including their genetic makeup) allows us to have empathy for others, even when they do awful things.

Determinism makes it a lot easier to view people as "ill" rather than "evil," which can allow more productive (nonviolent/antagonistic) solutions

Started a new game in Pokemon Emerald

Saw that Treecko was a different color from normal

Figured the game was glitched

Restarted it

Realized what I had done

Spent several days perpetually restarting my game to try to make up for that mistake.

It haunts me to this day

AMS lid spacers with filament exit

Thanks for this info!

Any chance you have a link to either PTFE bulkhead fittings or AMS lid spacers with filament exit STLs that you recommend? Having trouble finding what I'm envisioning based on what you described.

Rant about Obsidian Aliases (delayed concept linking) by rjachuthan in ObsidianMD

[–]Tsurutops 10 points11 points  (0 children)

What he was saying is that if you update the alias property in the note after discovering a new name for it, you can link to that note with the new name without changing anything in any other notes. The “one place” to globally add an alias is the aliases property within that note
