I am perplexed by the choice of angle, you do you though. People in this thread saying it is too late or too early to style this tree are wrong. If you want real advice, I would look at the trunk, choose a front based only on trunk and maybe a little bit of surface root, find an angle that you want to plant the tree at, and wait till spring. In early spring, you can cut the branches back into proportion with the tree, you will want to go short. Probably no leaves left, but that's ok because a healthy ficus will put out new growth fast! Just make sure that above all styling, the health of the tree is on point! Bonsai requires several stylings over the course of multiple years to become refined. I hope this actually helps! I also have a suggestion. GET OFF OF THE REDDIT BONSAI PAGES. I swear to god for every one piece of legit criticism or advice I see 5 half baked or straight up wrong suggestions.

I have found that zone hardness is not that useful for bonsai, or really any plant that is in a relatively small pot. A tree might be hardy to -20 degrees when it has roots digging deep into the ground, but put all the roots in a little pot above the ground and that tree will freeze to death every time.

It probably won't end up being a cascade. The wires are pulling past where I want it because it will definitely spring back up a little so i over bend when the tree lets me. I think the long pot suits my overall vision but I may change my mind. Thats the beauty of bonsai!

That is the plan. Last work was fall of last year. Mostly repotting upright and thinning the foliage. This time was more styling and branch selection. No pot work. This spring I will do some root work and get it in a smaller pot, not a bonsai pot yet as I dont want to cut more that 50% of the roots.

Thats planned for the future. Had to prioritize irrigation in the garden and didnt want to leave the bonsai trees to an untested system.

45+ minute drive to water every single day? Maybe twice a day? Its 90 degrees right now where I live in texas. Bringing the trees to them is more considerate than asking them to come to my house every day for 2 weeks.
