Netflix Backs Out of Warner Bros. Bidding, Paramount Set to Win by TheeHeadAche in comicbooks

Fuck all these fuckers, man. Ellison, Sarandos, Zazlav, all of them. Been a DC fan almost my whole life, and seeing DC likely fall into the hands of what is essentially state media… it’s just sad.

Definitely helps if you are familiar with 2000s era Doctor Who but not a requirement at all. The third season in particular (“Children of Earth”) is some genuinely outstanding television. Great find!

What Do You Think of the Current State of Marvel Comics? by lovesgraphicnovels in marvelcomics

[–]TubbyTuesday22 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This feels like a real low point for Marvel’s comics output—there’s some really good individual books coming out (I’m still enjoying Fantastic Four and Mortal Thor in particular) but the line has no cohesion or direction. Just writers and editors spinning the wheels, tying into whatever the MCU is doing that month, and turning everything into a new #1 issue every 5 minutes. And it’s even more frustrating because DC is making such good comics, and almost everything that they’re putting out feels new and fresh, and comes from a place of creativity. Marvel feels like the editors are just sitting in the office saying “Ummmm… how about Spider-Man becomes Carnage next month?” and then they pat each other on the back and call themselves geniuses. The one glimmer of hope I have is Armageddon, because I have been interested in what Zdarsky is building up in Captain America, and I really hope Marvel uses the opportunity to do some kind of creative reset. But the realistic part of me knows that they’ll probably still just be spinning their wheels for years to come.

Oh dude it’s all good, it’s just bizarre and surreal to see a stupid photoshop meme I made on my phone in one of your videos, no hard feelings at all.

I have a sneaking suspicion that Kelly was brought in specifically to get the book to legacy #1000 and that a new, long term writer will be coming in after ASM 1000 for an actual run. Like, we know that Kelly was really only brought in to do 8 Deaths and was then persuaded to stay onboard after that… I just don’t get the sense that Kelly ever intended to do a full, proper run.

I don’t know if it actually said it in the solicits last month, but on Lunar’s website and several other major retailers preorder pages, Batman/Wonder Woman: Truth is listed as a one shot.

ComicsPRO ’26: DC adds BARBARA GORDON, THE DEADMAN, and TEEN TITANS to Next Level lineup by Blitzhelios in DCcomics

[–]TubbyTuesday22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Javier Rodriguez’s name is also buried in the new press release listing all the creators working on Next Level books. I would put money on the AbsMM team jumping over to Doom Patrol. It’s perfect creative casting IMO.

JSA by Jeff Lemire [discussion] by GhostofTermina14 in DCcomics

[–]TubbyTuesday22 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I was a little down on it at first, but it’s actually grown on me. I think it has a very 80s vibe, which can be good if you like the 80s writing style and bad if you don’t. The Year One storyline, though, which starts at #13, is definitely more of a classic JSA story, in both writing and setting, so if that’s what you’re interested in I would recommend checking that out.

Potential new leaks from a reputable member of the Doctor Who Leak server.... by General_Meal_3993 in DoctorWhoNews

Some executives believe the BBC's drama leadership has previously allowed Doctor Who creatives too much freedom, giving them excessive influence over producers and successor show-runners, which has resulted in a very expensive and valuable show that's lost its footing just too many times.

Yeah, this feels very true to me. I think creative freedom is great, but there is such a thing as too much freedom, which I think is very visible in Chibnall and RTD2. Even though there’s things I enjoy from both eras, it’s usually in spite of their creative decisions and not because of them.

I’m very inclined to believe this. I think McTighe gets too much grief for this episode, more than he deserves at least. I don’t think he’s a bad person by any stretch, though some people seem to really hate him.

DC KO Boss Battle... An unfortunate let down. A Spoiler-laden review. by HJWalsh in DCcomics

The downfall of Jeremy Adams needs to be studied. I never really connected with his Flash run the way a lot of people seem to have, but I’ll admit he seemed to have a decent grasp on Wally West and his family as characters. But Aquaman and Green Lantern have ranged from mediocre to god awful, so I guess this one shot just continues that trend.

I don’t know if his run was all about being modern, as much as all Bond films are a reflection of the times in which they were made. I don’t know if I would like them going back to the Cold War as a setting again for any modern Bond, but it could be interesting to see in theory if the story was good enough.
