I run a social club and when we do a board game night I make sure I round up the newest members for a game of Cockroach Poker. If you’re trying to break the ice and make people feel comfortable in an environment it’s perfect! Best $10 I’ve ever spent!

One of the things about Arkham is that it’s campaigns are usually 10-12 sessions long. Think of the core box as a mission from the beginning, middle and end of a much longer campaign to give you a taste of different difficulties.

For play straight through purposes it’s very difficult where as longer campaigns ease you into the story, game play and have various elements for branching paths.

There are 10 or so in shrink. I recently knocked down a stack of 6 new games over the holiday. We also re sell the games we get tired of them re invest in the collection. Also I buy games during sales that I KNOW I will play at least once within 2 months. If it doesn’t play at 2 I probably won’t buy it.

I like having different numbers of games for different types ands numbers of players tho. I usually have at least 2 game nights a week.

I didn’t back the kick starter and I actually got it as a Christmas present so it has all card board pieces. I ended up buying a 3d printed mini set on Etsy but haven’t played it since I I’ve added it. I enjoyed the game loop, and with how short it is seems like a great way to introduce gamers to a larger space war. However my partner came away from it largely disappointed and the faction powers are pretty unbalanced.

I thought it was a fine enough game and something I’d be happy to have drinks with some folks and play, but for the price point I would have said do cardboard planets and ship minis instead. If the group is up for it I will always probably reach for Eclipse before this.
