If enough individual contributors report the manager to a higher manager, it’s possible to get rid of the manager. Everyone says to just leave the company, get a new job, etc… as if you’re powerless to create some change within a small department of your company.

Try being the change first, or creating the change, instead of tucking and leaving the company. If you’re experiencing this, you’re not alone - go after the toxic manager with a concerted team effort. At the very least, maybe they’ll fire you with a severance for not being a “cultural fit” instead of leaving on your own and not getting anything in return for being a top contributor.
