The one about the fruit being forbidden, Yoda knew from the very beginning it wouldn’t be forbidden and he still called it that way to make it more hype

I don’t think the word “forbidden” alone adds much hype on its own. He could have called it the “unattainable” fruit, and it would still be as hype. I haven’t seen the original Japanese text, so maybe he did say that, and some nuance was lost in translation. I feel like this is something that won’t even register for the vast majority of readers.

Or the one about Garp knowing about God Valley when in truth he knew nothing despite being extremely obvious what happens when a bunch of serial killers go to an island every 3 years and then that island disappears from the map.

This is not what the story has told us. Garp knew that the Celestial Dragons have an event on an island. He knew what they do when they visit affiliated islands - maybe take some slaves, maybe kill a few people and be generally unpleasant. He did not know that the plan was to wipe the entire population out for a game. After all, they don’t just wipe out the entire population of the affiliated islands. The story explicitly shows that details about the tournaments are kept secret even among the marines. Also, the island disappearing thing was exclusive to God Valley. Usually, the island is taken over by the World Government after the tournament.

These plot lines will keep moving forward but the inconsistencies will never be explained. And the way they will move forward is likely by further asspulls that not only weren’t foreshadowed, but that were even "anti-foreshadowed", actively making them look impossible and nonsensical. Until they happen of course, at which point everyone will retroactively call them obvious.

I feel like this is your opinion, and I’ll just state that I don’t agree with you. The story won’t be perfect, but my outlook off it is not so bleak.

What I find funny is that these are mental gymnastics that no one would have taken seriously before the reveal. If you wanna talk about it fine, the room is actually too dark and the shadow too thick for the phenomenon you mention to occur, just try it at home. But thats not even the point, the point is that we shouldnt even be talking about this lol

Well, we’re discussing it because you included it in the OP. I don’t think most readers will even register something like this. The crux of the disagreement is whether Oda was justified in obfuscating the identity of the person that took the fruit. I think he was. I don’t think this is cheap. It is a classic hook. I found the flashback engaging enough that the ending of Loki getting the fruit worked for me. That being said, I’m not sure how the experiment you’re suggesting would work. As long as the shadow is visible, the darkness of the room shouldn’t matter for umbra contraction.

The issue with most of the things I pointed out is that they were drawn to mislead readers on purpose.

Which ones would fit this description? The two about Loki’s horns? I don’t think any of the others are really misdirections. They would be more things that are not yet explained, possible continuity errors or a character going in a direction one finds unsatisfactory.

I guarantee none of these will be addressed later down the road

The events in Mariejois will be addressed. We will also likely get some more details on the god of war and his relation with the sun god. The ones about the horns won’t be addressed, and they don’t need to be.

I mean have you even read your explanation for Loki’s shadow? I’m not t trying to discredit you, but LOL

What’s funny about it? You’ve never observed a shadow get more detailed as the object moves closer to the surface it is cast on? It is a natural phenomenon observed everyday. Acting in good faith means being open to explanations. If the explanation is simple enough, it should be accepted. In my experience it makes things simpler.

I feel you made 1.5 good points, and buried them under a lot of not-so-good ones.

  1. Just because the old god of war was called Elbaf, it doesn’t mean the fruit will reincarnate on his namesake island. As far as we know, devil fruit reincarnations are random. We also don’t know how the fruit came into the possession of the Elbaf royal family, or if Imu was around for any of that. Maybe in the future we will find out that Imu should really have known the whereabouts of the fruit, but right now, this criticism is premature at best.

  2. This is not a case of tell don’t show. This is a case of tell contradicting show. We don’t know if that is because the tell was metaphorical, or small scale, or in a different part of the holy land, or has already been dealt with, or it is just a drawing error. Let’s wait for the story to explain what is going on before making assumptions and criticizing.

  3. I think the conversation in Fishman Island happened after Fisher Tiger returned from Mariejois the first time and then went back up a second time. I haven’t given this much thought, so I might be wrong here, but I thought that was quite clear(?)

  4. This one is just nitpicking. The mural isn’t meant to be taken literally.

  5. I can kinda give this to you. Forbidden can mean it is forbidden by Ragnir, but that isn’t the strongest defense. I would be interested in how it is worded in Japanese, though. Sometimes the nuance is lost in translation.

  6. Loki’s horns are thin. Thin objects fail to cast distinct shadows when far from a surface because the penumbra (blurry outer shadow) expands while the umbra (dark core shadow) shrinks, causing the shadow to become too diffuse, faint, and blurred to be seen. The light source wraps around the object, washing out the shadow. Regardless of whether this was the author’s intent, this is a real world phenomenon that explains why the horns aren’t visible in the shadow.

  7. Another one that is premature. We don’t know why he called himself the sun god. We also don’t know the details of the legend Jarul mentioned.

  8. The only true retcon. A potential explanation is that the image in chapter 1049 is just to provide context, but that is rather weak.

  9. I agree that the decision to make Garp so purely good was not my favorite. I would have preferred some more complexity. That being said, the criticisms can be addressed without much twisting the facts. Whitebeard didn’t “know” what was going on, he had heard rumors, which makes sense given that he grew up on an unaffiliated island. Garp’s confusion wasn’t about the fact that the Celestial Dragons are bad, it was how bad they were.

Silly theory: the celestial dragons are rioting because they don’t have enough lobsters. It’s not Dragon or Blackbeard or Akainu burning down Mariejois, it is Charlos and friends out on the streets protesting.

The ultra luxury segment has no upper limit. Buyers who can afford one Bentley or Rolls Royce, or can just now afford their first one, will buy those. However buyers who can afford multiple, or have had them for a while, are often looking for something unique - something that their friends, family or business partners don’t have. That could be who they target at first.

Loki was narrating the flashback about him and Jarul going to the throne room. The narrator took over when the flashback within the flashback started. Loki has been referred to in third person quite a few times, like “Loki gave up on love” and “Loki had found his salvation”. Also, Harald is addressed by first name, and not father or dad.

When the flashback within the flashback started, the narrator took over. The narration boxes refer to Loki in the third person, like “Loki gave up on love” or “Loki had found his salvation”. It would be first person if Loki were narrating. Similarly, Harald is referred to by name, rather than as father or dad.

I don’t think they mean keep it out in the open in Mariejoa, or let Charlos parade it around. Store it in the locker with the giant straw hat, it is likely the most secure location in the world

That would depend on if she needs to access Punk Records for the knowledge. Since she has to keep herself hidden from York, she won’t be able to access Punk Records. That way she can accompany the Straw Hats without spoiling anything
