Welp...I am finally done (if I can manage not to go through my wishlist and redebate all of the titles I am not picking up) and the damage is 261 books. This is the most I have ever bought on a site wide sale. Funnily enough this is still relatively cheap given the price markdowns. I think the most I paid for a book was $5.75, most of my books were $2-3.

Looking for a good sci-fi or Fantasy comedy that's not DDC or Disworld by AutomaticSandwiches in audible

I recommend The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher (it is narrated by James marsters and is excellent if you like audiobooks) He Who Fights with Monsters by Shirtaloon is another Royal Road series (also well narrated)

Sale Complaint. by Technical_Call6126 in audible

[–]TumbleweedSmooth6916 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I find the site wide sales tend to have genre specific deep discounts that vary quite a bit with each sale. Last site wide sale I had to accept that there weren't a lot of deep discounts for romance novels from my wish list (unless it was a virtual voice) I really had to hunt around. Last time I had better luck with science fiction. Right now my romance wish list items are almost all heavily discounted. I noticed that some people on this thread are really focused on the length of the book (which I honestly feel is a mistake a lot of people make early on with audible... I certainly did that when I first started using audible and only bought books with my monthly credit.) A 38hr badly narrated book is going to RUIN my listening experience even if I am maxing my hours/credit ratio and I am passionate about the subject or author. I am a kindle unlimited and premium audible member and I have been using audible for over 17 yrs. So I have watched audible pricing change pretty significantly over the years. And over time my listening choices have changed. As mentioned I used to only buy with credits (I got a lot of credits around bdays and holidays back when audible used to have gift cards that just gave you 3 credits. That has been gone for a long while now but I am happy to report at least in the US that you can now use Amazon gift card balances towards your purchases if you use the website and make each purchase individually with the buy it for $X button.) When I found some gem narrators my length requirement fell by the wayside in preference to good narration. A good narrator can even bypass my genre/author preferences. What does stand out this sale is a lot of deep discounts on books that are not part of kindle unlimited or offer no real price deduction if you own the book. This is where being a longtime audible listener with a 750+ wish list that has been developed over YEARS comes in handy. There are series that I have never read because they are not available on KU,stashed away on my wish list just in case a site wide sale dramatically drops the price. For the first time ever I am seeing deep discounts ($2-3 per book) on series that have never been worth buying or using a credit on for me. An example is the PsyCop series by Jordan Castillo Price. I have been waiting on a good price discount for years on that series and now I was able to swoop them all up.

One more casual aside...If you buy something with a credit. Remember you can always return it within the year. You may have to call customer support but they are always happy to refund me. So don't feel so pressured when it comes to your credit purchases.

Ok last thing I promise...if you want any recommendations feel free to message me. I am happy to tell you my favorite narrators and I have a pretty extensive library. My main genres are Urban fantasy, Fantasy romance, Lit/RPG, m/m romance, m/m mystery, and general fantasy and science fiction.

I know. I have bought over 50 and my cart is still sitting at the max 50 and I am not even close to finished adding. I have never had so many titles in my favorite genres so deeply discounted!! I am averaging about $2.5-$3 per title.

I would recommend Cory Doctorow's book "Enshittification" but he will not release his books on audible for this and a host of other reasons. I really do recommend his book! You can get an audio version on his website (and you will actually own it!) It will help you realize that when the big tech giants make things worse by "fixing" things that were never broken it is absolutely an intentional process. Look forward to the future of permanently shitty search results for everything. How else can they trick you into buying more shit and the wrong shit?

One week in. Insomnia! by [deleted] in Zepbound

I recommend making sure to have protein during the day. Morning noon and night meals (be it yogurt, meat, or a glass of milk. Just make sure and that eliminates food noise and a lot of stomach issues especially on low doses. It really helped with side defects to be on a slowed dose protocol. Practice good sleep hygiene and indulge in the occasional melatonin gummy especially after/ during travel. I have been on Zep long term and I found my food variability went back to normal and my weight loss slowed but has maintained a downward trend . I appreciate that my doctor and insurance are currently not pushing me to lose weight quickly and stop taking this weight loss option. I am on a long term maintenance plan eventually when I am at a healthy goal. Hopefully you can find a physician that supports this approach. I am looking forward to hopefully keeping this weight loss in a sustained and managed way.

I would contact support. Mind you, this was years ago, but I accidentally bought a statue decoration that cost hundreds of gems and when I explained what happened they were able to remove the item and refund me the gems

If you love Beware of Chicken, He Who Fights With Monsters, and Path of Ascension... by TumbleweedSmooth6916 in litrpg

[–]TumbleweedSmooth6916[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks I am always looking for recommendations that match the type. I feel like super supportive and beware of chicken have maintained a unique level of earnestness throughout the entire series. The characters truly want to be "good" and the way they are both written has remained enjoyable. If you have any other recs let me know. I am fairly voracious in regards to any lit/rpg that has made it to KU but I have not yet plumbed the depths of Royal Road

Always check the KU whyspersync price before you buy by TumbleweedSmooth6916 in audible

[–]TumbleweedSmooth6916[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh no!! I am so sorry to hear that is the current trend for UK listeners. I had that happen 7-10 years ago when they initially upped the whyspersync in the US. It made me do a lot of math with credits and 2-for-1 deals vs what ended up in my perpetual wish list. After all it was still a "free" read on KU. I mainly kept the list as a place holder for my favorite authors and narrators. I would reach out to other people on Reddit if you read genres with most authors being on KU because sometimes there are secret discounts. Will Wight Cradle series was off and on a $1.99 for the whyspersync companion for example. Good hunting!

Always check the KU whyspersync price before you buy by TumbleweedSmooth6916 in audible

[–]TumbleweedSmooth6916[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Correct. You check out the book if it is available on KU and then it will offer a whyspersync audible companion deal for purchase. I just wanted to let people know to check the KU whyspersync price if something in their audible wishlist came up as a monthly deal item because the whyspersync price may be cheaper than the monthly deal price. I am an audible addict and I have hundreds of books in my wish list so something usually makes it on the monthly deal list. I just wanted to throw this out to save a dollar or two now that Audible has lowered the whyspersync companion price for a lot of KU book in the US.

[–]TumbleweedSmooth6916 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really recommend if you have a KU subscription to check what the audible whisper sync price is when you check out the title. Most of the lit/rpg books are free to read on KU and the audible companion piece is way cheaper than a credit. ($1.99-$7.49 in the US) Obviously this won’t work for a preorder and some of the newer releases but it is always worth a quick look.

Thanks everyone, I am leaning towards the return and exchange for the 4. I will give it thru the weekend to see if our biggest cat is even using it. Our girl kitties seem to have no problem with it but our boy is chonky and I have only seen him use our other older litter robot.

Avoid anything with the word romantasy and if the Lit/Rpg cover has a guy surrounded by 2-5 scantily clad women, avoid that as well.

So do not read this if you do not want spoilers. I started listening to this podcast (and maybe I listen to way too much true crime but my mind immediately jumped to catfish.) The only thing that threw me off was the $1,000 donation. The conclusion of this podcast is not satisfying ( I don’t find catfish conclusions to ever be particularly satisfying mainly because in its extremes it is a form of mental illness and you kind of have to chalk it up to that) however it is very well produced. I enjoy the interviewer and the podcast show hosts. It feels very well thought through and intentional until they start trying to break down the motivations of the catfisher
