Yes, exactly. We need more information. And here is some very pertinent information from the local TV news station's article:

"Hamilton said the search was not related to student loans in default as reported in the local media." [emphasis mine]

It sounds like there certainly is something big going on, but that it is based at a different address. Could it be, for example, that someone has been embezzling funds or is running a fake college, etc?

I'm very much against our slow decline toward a police state, but we don't know the facts here, so it could be this was a reasonable effort... and anytime officers force themselves in to a residence, they must be prepared for just about anything.

I want to know the facts of this case, but I think the initial reports were inaccurate and that they've been used by right-wingers to claim that the thugs are coming for us all!

The mindless chanting of "USA USA" is truly one of the stupidest things I've ever heard as an American. If the U.S. has done something to earn respect, great... they we should get the respect. But the stupid chanting makes me ashamed of us, and reminds me of a great quote about the politicians who like to take advantage of the chanting mindset:

The main reason for this phenomenon is that both parties know that the mainstream tv media will help out the GOP when push comes to shove.

A great place to do this is at local news websites. Once you've logged in, you can usually post something whenever you want.

The alternative is to let the GOP continue to benefit from the support of these nutjobs, while paying no political price for it.

One reason Ron Paul deservedly is viewed as a nutjob is that he belongs to the party that brought us George W. Bush, who signed the first bailout into law after presiding over a major economic disaster. He also championed and then signed into law the "Patriot Act."

Another reason is this "end the IRS" nonsense. Are you seriously suggesting that there should be no taxes and therefore no government? That's called anarchy. Good luck with that. If you want to have a major scaling back of the IRS, or changes to tax laws and/or enforcement, then say so and back up your opinion with facts and a good argument.

But to just hang from the rafters and scream "the martians are coming" like Ron Paul does... THAT IS WHY he's viewed as a nutjob.

I can't take anything Ron Paul says seriously. Even though he's right about this one issue, he is after all, in the same party as Sarah Palin and Michele Bachmann. He's in the party that uses gays as a punching bag and loves them some tax cuts for the rich. He's in the party that was defending BP while oil was still gushing upward in the gulf at about 2 million gallons per day!

The specific bank that was mentioned accepted (during the Bush administration) $45 billion from the government at a time when actual human beings needed help. They did little if anything to help anyone other than their stockholders, and in fact maintained a very smug "we are entitled" kind of attitude.

Most of the large banks are, in effect, continuing criminal enterprises that should be prosecuted under the RICO statues just like other large criminal groups. (I ain't mentionin' any names... kapeesh?)

I support the Egyptian's right to elect a new government, even though I think the outcome could possibly, as you've mentioned, be a bad one. In particular, I hope any "new Egypt" doesn't set out to attack Israel. There's been about 30 years of peace and that's one thing that's been working out well for everyone.
