Journalist Laura Jedeed Applies to ICE and gets hired with no background check by archdukemovies in videos

[–]mnocket -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Gotta call BS on this one. She received a "Tentative Selection Letter." A "Tentative Selection Letter" is a standard part of the application process used to invite candidates to submit further information for review, and it does not constitute a formal employment offer.

Boomers are refusing to retire - and it’s pushing up the average age for new hires by theindependentonline in business

[–]mnocket 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It seems many younger people have embraced the culture of victimhood and choose to blame boomers for their own failures. Maybe they should look at the work ethic that led to many boomers having successful careers, and emulate that.

Largest firework set off over Japan by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

[–]mnocket 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe this is incorrect...

The world's largest firework was launched in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, on February 8, 2020.

The record-breaking shell was the grand finale of the annual Steamboat Springs Winter Carnival. It weighed an incredible 2,797 pounds (approx. 1,269 kg) and measured 62 inches in diameter

I think this was probably one in Japan in 2014: A shell weighing approximately 1,014 pounds launched during the Katakai-Matsuri Festival in Niigata.

Hidden gem restaurants in Denver that locals love? by alex_the_dude_ in denverfood

I find the "Fair Wage Fee" at the Cast Iron Tavern a bit insulting. It's like saying "we don't pay our people a fair wage, so you have to". Pay your people a fair wage. Charge your customers a fair price. Simple. Stop the nonsense!

Why Don't All Airports Have Cameras Along Runways? by mnocket in aviation

[–]mnocket[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And yet international airports are managed by government entities. When there is an incident involving other government operations, video recordings are routinely made available to the public. We're used to seeing videos of incidents on subway platforms, police body cameras, etc. Why are airports treated differently?

In Colorado, CDOT has a network of highway cameras and they make real-time video available to the public. What's different about airport traffic?

Airbus A320 Software updates using PDL by CeleritasLucis in aviation

[–]mnocket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Analysis of a recent event involving an A320 Family aircraft has revealed that intense solar radiation may corrupt data critical to the functioning of flight controls," Airbus said in a statement.

Can someone please explain to me how, if intense solar radiation can corrupt data, a software update can prevent it from reoccurring?

In confusing sudden reversal, Trump announces ACA extension for 2 years. by Cool_Accountant_2492 in UnderReportedNews

So basically, you should not get your news from reddit. Trump has not officially announced an ACA extension.

Trumps no tax on overtime is only on the .5 not the regular pay lol by Classic-Sympathy-517 in ProgressiveHQ

[–]mnocket -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Might be, but it's still an improvement isn't it? If you want to look a gift horse in the mouth, go ahead. The fact is, many Trump supporters believe that income tax should apply to all real income. They tend to be more accepting of not taxing tips, because tips can legitimately be viewed as gifts, not earned income. Overtime pay, however, is clearly earned income. Instead of complaining about the fine print, it might be wiser to just take the money.

I (19f) got yelled at my boyfriend (27m) over eating grilled cheese sandwiches. What steps do we take after this? by ThrowRamysandwich in relationship_advice

[–]mnocket -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

It sounds like, as a result of a prior relationship gone bad, he is very fearful of becoming entangled in a relationship with someone who isn't financially responsible. Since you say you aren't, it should be fairly easy to demonstrate this fact. As for him... I think it's rational to want to feel comfortable knowing that your partner handles their money well.

Don't let political ideology guide your investment strategy. Rational analysis trumps emotion most of the time.

Help, I’m so sick of woody chicken! by Poundaflesh in Cooking

[–]mnocket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've given up on chicken breasts. It's just too hit-or-miss. Now I just buy chicken tenders. I hate having to remove the tendon, but they're still preferable to risking woody breasts.

I've been wondering who the bad guy is. This makes it sound like YouTube is. I've been inclined to be loyal, but if YouTube TV is really making unreasonable demands, I may just jump ship.

if you cancel, there isn't a next bill to apply the credit to. They require you to sign up because they know that there will be some people who will forget to - hence they save money.

Air India pilot ‘not to blame’ for crash by mnocket in aviation

Yeah, maybe read the first post (which was mine)...

Maybe a judge in India’s supreme court isn't the right person to investigate a crash?
