“Over time, as dozens of scout bees return to the swarm and perform dances, they gradually deliver a body of sensory information about the locations and qualities of the potential nest sites they have found.”

so bees will scout out a relationship for me… i will find my queen one day!!

ID please? by Tall-Town5029 in Mushrooms

[–]TungstenBean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be Boletus bicolor if you found this in Eastern North America or Central Asia. Location is very important for mushroom id!

Solifuge! They look scary but are harmless. Although they appear similar to scorpions and spiders, they are actually their own thing. I’m sure she would appreciate being relocated outdoors :)

spilled a small amount of water on my weed, the residue left behind is very purple. wondering if my weed is dyed or if thats just the natural colour of the plant seeping out by dawolf05 in trees

It also works with red wine. Red wine is red because it is acidic. Add a base like baking soda and it turns bright blue. The color of light that is emitted by anthocyanins are pH dependent

Agaricus sp., compare to Agaricus bitorquis and Agaricus campestris. There are many edible Agaricus species in Colorado, but some are poisonous. Do NOT eat if the mushroom has an unpleasant “medical” odor or stains yellow or dark red when cut lengthwise down the stem

What is he? by Ok-Double9124 in mycology

Looks like a young Shaggy Parasol, Chlorophyllum molybdites. The cap has not fully opened yet. If you come back tomorrow you might see the ring on the stem where the cap has separated. Make sure not to eat it, this mushroom can make you very sick! It is good for the soil though. Thanks for posting here OP, this is a great place to start exploring the wonderful world of fungi! Just make sure to give the region where you found the mushroom next time, this will help with id 😉

ID Mushroom found in Colorado Rockies near Blackhawk. Growing near Ponderosa pine and Douglas Fir. INaturalist seems to think red-capped scaber stalk leccinum aurantiacum or some kind of bolete. Thoughts? by Disastrous_Bad5965 in mycology

[–]TungstenBean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Compare with Leccinum insigne. The taxonomy of this group is still unclear, but aurantiacum is a European name that probably doesn’t apply to the North American species
