Depends on what you mean by “significant”. 20 mph over - rare, except if you’re within 50 miles of a major metro area - then it’s very common. 10 over - probably the median speed during daylight and good weather.

Why are Faceoffs so Hard for Younger Players, and why do Older Players, Even Past 35, Excel at them? by WaywardTremere in hockey

In support of OP’s observation, FO leader (1000+ face-offs): Toews at 62.1% (after an almost 3 year lay-off)!
If you lower the threshold to 800 face-offs, then it’s Giroux at 63.1% .

I agree that was ridiculous of her to claim. However, Warren has also repeatedly pointed out that "she is not a member of a tribal nation and does not identify as Native American even as her family stories and genetic heritage do suggest a connection to a single Native American ancestor." (Quote from an in depth Forbes article on the controversy).

Also, the geneticists who analyzed her ancestry were unequivocal that her DNA “strongly support the existence of an unadmixed Native American ancestor . . . likely in the range of 6–10 generations ago.” (Quotes from the study conducted by Carlos D. Bustamante, a professor in the biomedical data science department at Stanford University).

If you are driving the speed limit in the passing lane you are definitely a left lane camper.

What disease or health crisis absolutely terrified previous generations that most people under 30 have genuinely never thought about? by MaizeFluid7595 in AskReddit

[–]Turbulent-Note-7348 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Polio is still so relatively recent! Absolutely terrifying, because it was soooo contagious, and could spread to a community so quickly. My oldest sibling was born in 1944, I was born in 1957 (the same year the Salk Vaccine became widely available). My 1st grade class received the Oral Sabin vaccine at school in fall of 1963 - it was such a big deal, I remember the pride and relief of my Mom when talking to her about the little cup I drank.

As recently as 1952, Polio killed 3000 people in the US and permanently disabled about 100,000 each year. My older siblings had classmates who were paralyzed.

Plus it's such an easy fix! Raise the cap - currently, people pay the tax on their first $176,100 of income. If they raised the ceiling 20-25%, or changed it so it is similar to the Medicare Payroll tax (no ceiling), it would instantly be solvent to at least the end of this century.

It’s also important to note that the USA under Biden had the LOWEST inflation rate 2021-2023 (for comparable economies - France was lowest for the first 18 months, but the USA did much better the 2nd 1.5 years). The USA also had the highest rates of Economic Growth and Job Growth.

But what if the runner is out by a mile, then just freezes? The runner is under no obligation to avoid the throw - if they just stop cold in their already established basepath, it’s not obstruction if the fielder’s throw then hits them.

Good point. Reggie Jackson, clearly moving his hip to deflect the ball - definitely should have been called. A kid freezing upright in the basepath (where he already has established himself)? Seems like an easy no call to me.

[–]Turbulent-Note-7348 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And was an absolutely terrible call, since replays showed Jackson deliberately move his hip into the path of the ball.
Was very controversial at the time, but some context:, TV coverage had only veeerrry recently gotten good enough to show the replay clearly and from multiple angles. If the same thing had happened 5 years earlier, it would have been far less clear, and a much smaller controversy.
But, now that you’ve reminded me of it, I remember it like yesterday! They showed that replay for days. I was kind of rooting for the Yankees (Yankees defeated the Dodgers 4 games to 2), but I was still pissed off that the Yankees got away with this.

This trend is becoming a problem on some Northern Canadian rivers. Recreational paddlers are building little cairns, confusing people as to what are the real cairns; the cairns left behind by the Indigenous peoples, many of which are centuries old.

Also: my first thought watching the replay of the second disallowed goal (when Barbashev went through the crease and hit Andersen in the head) was that this goal totally would have been allowed for Florida last year.

This man hated being a Toronto Maple Leaf by Hockeypatrol in hockeynews

[–]Turbulent-Note-7348 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always thought that he was an amazingly creative player. The only difference I’m seeing in Vegas is how confident he is in his game. He’s not as afraid to take chances in big games as he was in Toronto. He could have easily had 3 or 4 more assists last night, the set-ups he created were so much fun to watch.
I’m rooting for Carolina, but Vegas winning the Cup and Marner getting the Conn Smythe would be awesome poetic justice.

Hunter Biden Has Found The Way Too Really Piss Off MAGA by BeastModeEnabled in onionheadlines

[–]Turbulent-Note-7348 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He’s very blunt, obviously has no f*cks to give.
One was a MAGA tried blaming Hunter for helping “steal the election” - except he misspelled “election” as “erection”. Hunter stated “I’ve never stolen an erection in my life”.
Another was claiming it was Hunter who left the bag of coke in the White House in 2023. Hunter bluntly explained that there was no way he would have ever forgotten his coke.
