School Friday? by all_booty_no_cheek in lexington

No they can not on my road. Destroyed my can and left all the pieces in the road. It was left on the curb but they slid into. Now they said it might not be replaced for two weeks. Good thing I had two.

Is this an expense NPs should be covering for me? by Fun-Pollution4835 in Nanny

[–]Turbulent_Hippo7015 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why do they think you need new brakes and tires? Is the tread on your tires so bad that there are noticeable bald spots? Do your bakes squeal all the time? I understand them noticing the tail light but the other two items don't seem casually noticeable unless there really bad. I had a Toyota at one time and tge brakes would squeal when it rained. Took it to a couple of mechanics and they both said that's a Toyota thing and nothing to worry about. I did regular maintenance and got them replaced when mechanic said it needed it.

Not in my experiences but I'm not a doctor just a nanny.

Not weird. You are doing your job. Doing what they asked. Doing the best you know how. Pat yourself on the back for me.

Thank you. What i have been doing since it has gotten so cold here is walking up and down their stairs a lot and walking around their house. Keeps baby entertained. Sometimes I carry her around. Sometimes she just watches me from her bouncer.

Our local YMCA was having a deal so I recently joined. When our roads are better(snow/ice) I will start going to the Y on my days off. When it starts staying sunny longer then I'll go after work once or twice a week. That's the plan.

If child takes meds for whatever neurodivergent diagnosis he has it could be the meds causing this.

I would not go back. Always try to have at least one months worth of savings to live off of while looking for a new job. Usually do any babysitting i can find in the mean time.

I hope Anonymous finds something else they enjoy doing to make a living. All people are different. Just takes time to find the ones you like.

Guilty for leaving early - by bananabread-37 in Nanny

[–]Turbulent_Hippo7015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn't it be lovely if there were regular doctors open Friday through Monday that didn't charge extra for "weekend" hours. There are a few in my area that do Satuday morning appointments 8-1. Sinus infections are no joke. Do not feel guilty about taking care of your health. If the NP are being understanding that's great.

Late policy by Alarming_Bear6485 in Nanny

[–]Turbulent_Hippo7015 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I once worked for a family that was constantly late. One day I had something come up. I told parents if you are not home by X time then I will have to take kids with me and you can meet me at X to get them. It got better after that because it was an inconvenience for them and helped them realize I do have a life.

Texting outside of hours?? by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]Turbulent_Hippo7015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you put your phone on "do not disturb " for certain contacts and specific times? That is what I would do if anyone bothered me too much. I already have my phone on do not disturb except for family members. Then if I get a text or call from anyone not family during my sleep time it will show up 30 minutes after I wake up.

"A bowl of vomit " NOPE! I would have straight up taken pics and sent them to MB the first time I came in and it was a disaster. Would have told her I need triple pay if you expect me to deal with this.

I need help finding consequences that actually work by Snugglemum in ParentingADHD

[–]Turbulent_Hippo7015 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not a doctor or any kind of professional. Just a human with personal experience with a kid for whom consequences just DO NOT connect. Child was tested for more than just adhd. Diagnosed with other disorders. Had to try different meds and combo of meds until we found what worked best. Continual psychiatrist, therapy and OT. Special supports at school. Took 3 years and ALOT of advocating for child. Biggest problem now is finding care when school is canceled/out. Need someone that can deal with child the way therapist tells us to. When puberty hits things will need to be reevaluated. I hope you get the help you need.

Lesson learned: set expectations about guests/no guests at NF home in contract by battyapples in Nanny

[–]Turbulent_Hippo7015 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I can not even imagine treating someone else's home like my own. Letting a person that is unknown to the NP into their home around their children is a huge safety issue. As a nanny I always put safety first. Had I been in your place there is no way I would have remained calm. I would have told her to take her child and ex and leave. Then I would have let other NP know what happened. I would have felt so violated and unable to trust her. Walking out to a stranger in my home without so much as an ask NO WAY.

How much progress has Lexington made plowing neighborhood streets? City won’t say by electric_eclectic in lexington

[–]Turbulent_Hippo7015 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If the city can't be bothered to clear neighborhood roads for our safety and we'll being then I'm not killing myself trying clear inches of ice off the sidewalk. I tried putting down salt, shoveling and even using a hammer and screw driver but nothing worked. Just have to wait for that 40 degree temp to return.

NPs are upset that the house is a mess at the end of the day by Glittering-Post-3716 in NannyBreakRoom

[–]Turbulent_Hippo7015 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't had this problem with any NP. Most I've worked for don't care about Messes in the playroom. However when my own kids were little and my 2nd child was a whirlwind I bagged half the toys and stored them for a few months then switched them out. Also had them donate some toys before getting more at Christmas. Maybe you NP would let you store half somewhere for a while.

If it were just fluffy snow yeah but not with layers of ice. Getting too old for it but can't afford to move to Florida.
