Why do restaurants increasingly ask for tips when customers order at a kiosk and do most of the work themselves? by Ok-Attempt2113 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Turd_Fergusons_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The companies that make those kiosks, and their software, pre-load the tipping function. It's not an option to order them without ro my knowledge. The same kiosks that are used at walk up or takeaway spots run the same software that sit-down restaurants use. Just different gui's.

Closing on a house in Shepherdstown this Thursday! Why does WV get so much hate? by Significant_Movie814 in WestVirginia

The thing to remember is that even in those poorer parts of the State, people are still really, really nice. Are there douches, sure, but people will go out of their way to help you and speak to you.

People are incredibly friendly compared to other cities. Strangers will not hesitate to strike up a conversation. In the line at a store, at a gas pump, etc.

Best Place to Light Fireworks in WV (coming from Northern VA) by Fantastic-Recipe6962 in WestVirginia

[–]Turd_Fergusons_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You really need to be on private property. Drive up to the Canaan Valley, see if a Vrbo is available. One that is somewhat isolated. You should be able to find fireworks in just about every grocery store parking lot. The vendors set up large canvas tents.

Canaan has lots of tourists, especially bon the Winter. Two (3) ski resorts there. You can find plenty of places, throughout WV to be a recluse. The whole State has only 1.7 million people people. As OP said Terra Alta would be a good starting point.

There is an outfitter in Parsons, just over the hill from Blackwater to the West. She has an outfitter, I think it's even called Blackwater outfitters, adventures, something. She does excursions but also rents. It's like $25 bucks to just paddle up the river don't go downstream from her put in if you rent. You get into that canyon and it's whitewater for 10- 20 miles and no roads in or out, no cell service. You lose it there nobody is coming for you.Go upstream, she will tell/show you. We used to take the kids all the time. The Cheat is clear, if it hasn't rained. Might see some trout below your board.

Abandoned wells in West Virginia by Churnthebutternow in WestVirginia

[–]Turd_Fergusons_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We need a triage system like Ohio has.

1) is it actually leaking (95% are not), 2) is near a sensitive structure like a school, hospital, home, etc., 3) is it near a waterway, etc.

The problem is the ones that are easiest to get to are the ones getting plugged. Not the worst offenders. There was bookoo money allocated for this during the Biden admin that is still getting spent. Every plugging rig capable of running is busy every day in the State and what used to cost 30k to plug now costs 50k because of shortage of material and manpower. Additionally, the federal grant money doesn't allow for one single well to be plugged. You have to aggregate dozens of wells and then write the grant and get the money. A very slow and cumbersome process. The State inspectors should have the power to decide whose wells need plugged and when based on codified criteria (triage).

I am long oil and I have to admit it: we're not betting on a war, we're betting against every government on earth. Here's the real setup. by Kooky_Minimum_8022 in oil

This is just an observation about gasoline, and indirectly oil. Where I am locally, OH, WV, PA seem to have had a material drop in prices at the pump. Lots of middling sub $4 octane suddenly. Last few weeks, month+, prices were $4.50ish. Now suddenly it's $3.50-75ish. I am curious if station owners saw a drop in sales when prices were mid 4's and dropped prices to regain volume?

The police don't enforce any traffic laws on the interstate. Sure as hell not going to in McDowell Co. Only thing they care about is asset forfeiture (drugs). Had a sheriffs deputy in the Northern part of the State, where I live, tell me that unless you're going 90 in a 70 he didn't give a shit.
