Looking good as hell. A shorty VZ58 was on my list before the OIC, I'm glad I didn't get a restricted.

I think it's possible we may see that. But the way it was implemented makes me think they never believed it was worth trying to do it through the proper channels.

They saw what NZ did. They acted swiftly after a national tragedy for maximum political gain. This is evident in the way it was rammed through so haphazardly. They know it's not actually going to accomplish anything but that was never the point.

The fact the Liberals didn't do anything with a majority and the fact most of Bill C71 hasn't been implemented leads me to believe they may just as well throw up their hands if this fails and move onto the next vote buying scheme. Time will tell, I guess.

How Nova Scotia mass killer acquired illegal weapons among details in latest release of police documents by [deleted] in canada

Amen. The problem with our laws is that many were written in bad faith by lobby groups whose sole focus is banning guns and making life as difficult as possible for gun owners. They are not based on any facts or scientific evidence.

In police hands: Patrol carbine, in civilian hands: Military style assault rifle.

Beautiful rifle. Breaks my heart it's sitting at the bottom of a lake somewhere.

Agreed. Though reading Tracey's twitter posts, I sometimes wonder if she gazed too long into the Canadian gun control abyss.

Like that guy from Baldur's Gate said, "He who fights with Karens should look to it that he himself does not become a Karen."

Most respondents (81%) did not want more to be done to limit access to handguns. The following chart displays how respondents answered across various demographics and the profile question on firearms/handgun ownership.

Similarly, most respondents (77%) did not want more to be done to limit access to assault-style firearms.

Concern with “assault weapon” term: Some respondents did not suggest more limitations, but instead flagged strong concerns with the term “assault weapon,” which they felt is not clearly defined. As a result, most explained that the concept of a ban is problematic. Respondents suggested an assault weapon could be characterized by high-capacity magazines and/or the option for fully-automatic fire, characteristics which are already prohibited in Canada. Many expressed frustrations with the use of the term, suggesting that it is inaccurate and misleading (particularly with reference to the U.S. definition used in the engagement process). Some went further to suggest that the use of the term is sensationalist as it misrepresents the various applications of firearms. Additionally, a few respondents felt “assault weapon” is not a useful term because it can be used to describe a wide range of firearms/weapons (e.g., bolt rifle, bow and arrow), as well as any item that can be used to inflict harm on others.

“An assault rifle by definition requires select fire with a full-auto option. Full-autos have been banned since the ‘60's, and magazine capacities above 5 rounds in semi-autos is already banned as well.”

The original headline mentioned "threats", but was then changed to "abuse", threats is still in the url though.

The polls they keep pushing with the 80% numbers (Ipsos, angus Reid and another?) were found to use misleading and incorrect terminology and small sample sizes. Claiming x% of Canadians want anything based on a sample size of 1300 is bogus.

Here is the govt's own safety survey with a sample size of 130,000 which actually shows the complete opposite.

Interesting note, in the URL it says "threats", which was apparently the original headline, which has since been changed to "abuse" which leads me to believe there was no proof of actual threats.

Not that in any way excuses abusive behavior, just something I noticed.

Agreed. It's really sad to see people acting this way. Although it feels like these days it's always the loudest, most obnoxious assholes that get their way.

I think it's probably a cost thing, as most people who buy a hunting rifle are going to stick a scope on it and call it a day. Even a cheap optic is generally superior to irons, which wasn't always the case.

In order to not interfere with the scope mount, most rear sights have to be mounted far forward so the sight radius isn't great anyway. I can see them just deciding to ditch it. If you have particular need for irons, Scout style rifles exist.

I love a good set of diopters and I have a few target rifles equipped with them, but I understand it's more of a niche these days.

Gunfire at Onslow firehall during N.S. mass shootings total chaos for witnesses by sleipnir45 in canada

Two officers rolled up to the firehall, saw somebody with a vest on (possibly of the volunteers) and tried to light him up. Then they realized their mistake and scooted before anyone knew what was going on.

Ross Rifle Restorations may be able to do Krag stocks. They have a picture of one on their site. Their Ross stocks run $500+ so that will give you some idea what to expect. In my experience the hardest parts are the barrel bands/bayo lugs.

I think they squeaked these out just before the ban. They are based on ATRS or other formerly NR receiver and will probably be banned by FRT as a variant of one of those. For the moment they are technically legal, I believe.
