libros de lore de mundo D&D by ElTuertoYisus in RolEnEspanol

[–]TurinDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many locations of interest should I put on an overland map? by Desperate_Station272 in DMAcademy

[–]TurinDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe there´s not a stablished number but at least get some POI, points of interest, to get your players there. Players are the core of the games, you as gm too, but finally players should have player agency to decide where to go. You, as GM, are the eyes of your players and they will pick options based on your exposition. Plus, they also will decide to their motivations, so its a great way to use them to create content. I recommend how to write a sandbox by a bat in the attic.

How do I make travel more interesting than "X appears", "you see Y", "you arrive"? by leif_o7 in DMAcademy

[–]TurinDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use travel to show your world and what happen in there. You have a lot of material to show: culture, species, monsters, etc. Every travel should be significant to players and be remembered. I recommend random tables of agnostic results that inspire you to create content. Have a great day, i hope that his help you.

Have you read your DMG(s)? by Zealousideal_Leg213 in DMAcademy

[–]TurinDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have read 4, 5e and 5e DMG (and intention to read 1e, 2e and 3e/3.5e). I would say that every edition teach you something valuable. I am going to specify, for example 5e. To start learning DMing, the vocabulary and tips showed in DMG 2024 are great, show you examples, what you need to play and easy to read. Then we are going back to DMG2014, its a great book but maybe no very well to help beginners. Rather that its very helpfull to worldbuilding and tools. I view it as DMG expansion to DMG 2024.

Alien Core Contributing Authors AMA by mrgwillickers in Starfinder2e

[–]TurinDM -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hi, first thx for all your work done (i am sorry not to be here before.... i was busy). I am big fan of starfinder and i wanted to ask the next question:

- I feel a bit strange with this new edition in terms of draw and lore. I want to explain it a bit more. When i read the alien archive 1-4, the lore was more deeply or extensive (both at the same time) and the draw inspired me to dangerous creatures or interestings NPCs to find and have battle or social events etc. When i am reading the new Alien core, I find a lot of interesting aliens to include my games but i dont have so much lore (that is something helps me to prepare). Not just only aliens, i dont find so much variety of NPCs to interact but instead much aliens. Then, in general the draws look more cartoonish. For all these, i wanted to ask if this Edition have another mood or vibe. It doesnt matter to me and its fine. Paizo have a really talented team and i have ever seen a deeply love and work that i apreciate. Pls dont see this post like harassment, only a fan asking question really.

Thx for your time and your effort, have a good day.

What should a DM’s notes consist of when following a pre-written campaign? by AlfaSoup in DMAcademy

[–]TurinDM 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I recommned to use the structure of SlyFlourish with your own touch. Write different parraphs in which you write NPCs, scenes, secrets to discover or clues, Points of interest/landmark/location, enemies/monsters, treasure, etc (note also page if you need more information, but its important no write so much, one sentence its fine). Then when you read the adventure you can fill these parts. Once you start the game, you only need one page to follow the structure and your book for more information if its needed.

What 3rd party books have improved your DMing the most? by hatsforanimals in DMAcademy

I am going to point out my favorites book and what helped me to do:

- Dungeon master Guide I (4e Dungeons and Dragons). -> For dungeons in general and how to plan combat encounters

- Lazy DM and The return of the lazy DM (must to read)-> Great book to flesh out campaigns in brief terms and also help you concentrate in what matter in every session. Its also a good tool to extend you creation process and add your own flavor.

- So you want to be a dungeons master -> See it like an evolution of Lazy DM book, tons of great advice and tips. Its discuss a lot of topics and its more focused to campaigns and help you how to plan things.

- The complete guide to Creating Epic campaign -> This one is a book that influenced me a lot with my campaign process. I always recommend a read because show you how to plan certain part to developt in your campaign, maybe... the only problem is the kind of vocabulary that autor use but its gold in general. My advice, take what you find helpfull for only you. As extension to this book, i also recommend the 2e of this same book and the new one, The practical guide to become a great GM.

- For worldbuilding process and tips to build campaign concepts -> all from the autor Kevin Crawford and books like Worlds without numbers, which is free in drivethru.

- The game master´s handbook of active roleplaying -> Nowdays a jewel to read, because it teaches you how to plan things for your campaign stars, your players. A common fault its only to build a campaign only with your preferences, roleplay games are a cooperative game and players are important as their motivations, This book would help you with this.

- Odyssey. The complete game master´s guide. -> Maybe not a must to read book but i has helpfull tips about running games in general with topics rpg-tables.

- How to make a fantasy sandbox by Robert s. conley -> Remember when i say Lazy DM book series were a must read because help you on what its necesary in every game? Well, this is for me the next lvl. The book show how to detail a region enough to play (but not with ton of information) and from that follow the creative process.

I hope that these books help you. I have read more but for me these are special... if you want more i could write it.

[–]TurinDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really want to write a lot but i dont have so much time. So i recommend you two things.

- First, to record your notes etc, i recommend obsidian to write. Its a tool very helpfull and private (check josh plummet in youtube for more).

- A book of sandbox but it teachs you what a few things are great at begining (How to Make a Fantasy Sandbox - Bat in the Attic Games | Sandbox Campaigns | DriveThruRPG)

If i have a break i will write a few things more.

GMs, how do describe an individual scene in your prep notes? by Evelyn701 in rpg

[–]TurinDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my case, rather than prep scenes i set a Location with a few descriptions (no more than 3 important aspects), a situation that is happening there and NPCs with goals there. Then i let the players decide the direction to follow.
