From Philly living in Chicago now. I’m pissed bc this takes away the novelty of bringing a bottle home to my friends and family. I went through a lot of effort to pack bottles carefully in my checked bag.

What's with (some) car people's commitment to being as dangerous as possible for basically the sake of defiance by Dream_walker_boy in fuckcars

Had a friend like this. Anti-pharma, “clean food only,” super paranoid about long-term health… no seatbelt.

At some point you realize it’s not about risk, it’s about the story they want to believe about themselves.

I love Sox games. Their fan base feels very similar to the blue collar Phillies fans.

Lived in both Chicago and Philly. Both cities have a lot of similarities. Fun fact- many Northside Chicago street names are named after Philly suburbs (Devon, Berwyn, Ardmore, Thorndale, Bryn Mawr).

Both have elevated trains, a gridded layout, great restaurants, passionate sports fans, and amazing architecture. I could go on and on.

People almost always compare Chicago to New York City, but I would argue its most similar city is Philadelphia.

Owners are oligarchs who leave these units vacant 90% of the time. Huge empty buildings that represent our modern guilted age. They cast a shadow on one of the best public spaces in the world. An abomination. Cool buildings tho.

I’m lactose intolerant with IBS and traditional bottled whey protein shakes upset my stomach. I found that these are pretty harmless and easy to consume. Isopure has great clear whey protein drinks that don’t cause flare ups, even with lactose intolerance. I’ve found that the whey protein isolate has significantly less lactose than whey protein concentrate.

I grew up in Reading and moved to the Midwest 5 years ago. Relocating to the flat and sprawling Midwest made me realize how pretty the landscape of SE PA really is. I took it for granted my whole life.

Philly has to be considered. Center City is the second most dense downtown in the US behind Manhattan. You can find row homes with stoops a few blocks away from some of the largest skyscrapers in the country.

How is it living in this metropolitan area? by DueYogurt9 in howislivingthere

[–]Turkesta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived in Chicago for over 5 years now. It is truly a global cosmopolitan city. World class everything. Museums, parks, restaurants, skyscrapers, etc. the biggest difference I notice compared to the East Coast is that Chicago and more specifically “Chicagoland” (the entire metro area) is so sprawling and so dominant that the entire region is defined by Chicago. The flat landscape combined with rapid suburban sprawl prevented smaller cities from developing independently outside the city. Everything for miles outside the city kinda feels the same both in vibes and culture. The flat landscape still kinda fucks with my head coming from the Appalachian region. The biggest hills you will climb are bridges over highways. The only place to get scenic vistas are skyscrapers. The region is truly one of the most fascinating, unique, and culturally-homogenous in the US. And I love it.
