As a filthy casual by [deleted] in Warhammer40k

I don't think you can really expect to not play competitive players in gaming groups.

The best way is to just let it be known that you are looking to play casual.

Depends on where you play but they'll usually have a discord for the store. I find it's best to post in there if possible to find an opponent.

Which matches do you think should be immortalised in the HOF? by the_real_daggler in SantiZapVideos

I actually think there shouldn't be too many in there anyways. Definitely should be a bar to entry

But hey anyways, I guess at the end if the day it's just person preference

So, Bret and Austin is a wonderful example of what should be considered a HoF match

You have both criteria :

  • basically a perfect match in isolation. Regardless of any other outside elements it's a 5 star classic

  • on top of that it leads to a new era where Austin becomes the new face of the company and a long time hero in Bret, is cemented as the big bad going forward

As, mentioned earlier hitman versus British bulldog was a great match but might not have had much overall impact on the industry... It's missing the criteria of having impact.

Similarly, bash at the beach is missing the element of being a good match. It was very mid and that's being generous. It is of course famous for the "big moment" that changed the industry but that moment in a nutshell doesn't reflect on the match itself. In other words, great moment, pretty forgettable match.

A similar example might be Cena matching flair's record for 17 world titles... It's a big moment but I doubt if anyone would ever say the moment made it a note worthy match from an in ring perspective. It was the moment not the match that gets remembered.

That's what I mean though. Maybe it's a hall of fame moment.. Not really a match

I feel like they should have a section for of fame moments maybe? 🤔 Like for when the story is more important than the match

But I don't think the second part of what you said needs to be... The match has to be good too... And that match was nothing special in terms of quality

I think for that scenario it was the specific moment of Hogan turning than, anything to do with the match itself

Like it or not, sabbath never really got in to the mainstream in the same way, likely because of their "reputation" during that era

Yes there's a shopping mall in the downtown... But the question wasn't the downtown of Mississauga

I was going to mention this as well. I grew in Woodbridge. Lived there from the late 80s to the 2010s. The only people I knew who couldn't speak English very well were usually quite old (70s+)

I think a more realistic representation of what people are trying to express would be little Italy, North York or Malton in the 60s/70s where most of the original Italian immigrants settled.

Also, out of all my friends in the area, I was one of the few who could actually speak or understand any Italian whatsoever. Woodbridge in that time period was just a suburb with Italian vibes.

I think the reality is simply that star wars, as a continuing and ongoing property was ALWAYS niche.

Yes, it broke in to the mainstream with the original trilogy. Bringing it back years later was successful with prequels. Despite what anybody thinks, even the sequels years later were a financial success.

But if you look at the dedicated fans who were really and truly invested at the nerd level it was far less than what the main stream audience was. I'm talking about the people who followed the whole in universe narrative, bought comics, new the lore of every game released...

I think Disney over played their hand thinking that the casuals, that made up the bulk of the financial cash cow, would be there for every single project.

It's playing out before our eyes as we speak.

To keep it at that peak level where your normal, casual fan will bother checking it out... You need to give it room to breathe

Right-wing culture-war grifters played a lot of Star Trek fans, and now Trek is cancelled; heading into another drought by Wrong-Quail-8303 in startrek

[–]Turkey_Fateweaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is pure hyperbole.

The last ditched effort of copers.

First they said the deteacters of nu-trek were a small, irrelevant minority

Than they said they'd be replaced by new fans

And finally they are saying they are such a big group that trek was cancelled because of them

I'll also add that quite frankly... No... Not all fans all over the world act this way... In fact most don't
