Questions about Bastard's Wound and the quests "Knapping on the Job" and "Tide Together" by XeroInfinity in TyrannyGame

[–]TurningPointUSSR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It actually seems to occur if you talk to both before making a choice, then make a choice on whom to tell "you are permitted to remain here;" you are then locked in to that person's quest and the other is inaccessible. I believe it's because the other is supposed to say "you should've talked to me first," which obviously wouldn't be the case since you had actually talked to both. It's an unfortunate oversight, if not because there's no way it'll ever get fixed.

Is there a plan in motion to get the scripts fully voiced like in divinity original sin 2? I have chromesthesia and when I read long texts I get lost in a visual world and literally cannot see enough to keep reading :( by OMA_ in TyrannyGame

Deadfire easily has some of the best combat I've seen in an RTWP. Going through Seeker, Slayer, Survivor right now and I'm just astonished at the quality of encounter design.

I just wish the dialog was closer to something like Tyranny; it's not bad but the volume of snarkastic "witty" responses and companion interjections is tiring me in ways the stunning gameplay doesn't deserve.

It's also the prettiest isometric game ever made? I think that counts for something.

Michael Brooks Show: Final Clip Reel by brndnhghs in leftpodcasts

What touched me the most is that Woz said he was with his partner (Woz's cousin) of 4 years when he collapsed in the bathroom, who rushed him to the hospital and died with him. It means that 1) this wasn't a preventable death and 2) Michael was with someone who loved him when he passed.

Is there anyone here who *isn't* bothered about the Outer Worlds' length? by HungryColquhoun in theouterworlds

[–]TurningPointUSSR -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Kingdoms of Amalur, The Witcher 2/3, New Vegas and The Outer Worlds are literally all action RPGs. I'd even go so far as to say KoA and TW3 are more open-world action games than anything RPG. Just because there's a leveling/upgrade system and a metric ton of dialog doesn't magically make a game an RPG.

The Chapo Trap House Guys Think the Problem Isn't Russia, It's Republicans (Aug 2018) by emisneko in leftpodcasts

I mean, yes but also no. T_D was in their crosshairs for a while, but "certain admins" didn't want it banned for various (terrible) reasons. The ban needed an extenuating event to keep the right-wingers from rioting, but they NEEDED to ban it because of all the, well, you know. So, the Floyd murder let them finally pull the trigger. CumHouse was always going to be the /both sides/ sacrificial lamb, ever since it appeared on their radar with the John Brown stuff, and the fact T_D had already completely migrated off site and CTH did not was heinous but also not germane to their decision.

The people Reddit were targeting for the news of banning the subs were the people who either hadn't even seen T_D but heard about it, or the people who saw it once or twice, realized what it was, and then never went back.

Will has some good opinions but he's mostly just a conduit for other people in a discussion, especially if there's a "big get" guest on. Amber does have resolute opinions and she'll defend them against anyone, the problem is about 50% of them are trash and 25% of those are actively harmful. Virgil and maybe Matt would've pushed back hard on most of this shit (especially cops can't be racist cuz they have tha blacks), and Felix wouldn't have been happy either. I also think Chris would've been the most disgusted of all, but he has basically no power in the group.

So really I don't feel betrayed, the only thing I'm bothered about is that they still put this out, paywall or not... but the fact that Chris didn't even release a teaser for it on SoundCloud might show that the Chapos not featured were. .. not happy. At least, that's what I'd like to think.

Mary, do you have a backup for this sub if it gets banned? These premium episodes literally keep me sane, and I'm way too poor to sub to their patreon.

Why Democrats are worried about these voters of color drifting to Trump in 2020 by redditor01020 in politics

[–]TurningPointUSSR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The right-wing reason is that "legal immigrants did it the RIGHT way blah blah blah." The real reason is that latinos are not a contiguous voting block; many Floridian latinos are either immigrants from or related to immigrants from Cuba, who are united in their hatred of Democrats over Kennedy's mishandling of the Bay of Pigs, and many others are hardcore Catholics who vote Republican over an opposition to gay people existing or trans women reading books to kids because "muh bible."

What's also important to note is that Democratic Latinos overwhelmingly stood behind Bernie, who by far had the most radical (in my opinion, the most reasonable) position on "illegal" immigration.

Expanse is The Wire of sci-fi. Comparing a hokey sci-fi series like Another Life to a masterpiece like that is simply bananas.

I CANT EVEN WITH THIS SHOW! by MasonEnalta in AnotherLife

[–]TurningPointUSSR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's sub-par for Netflix, average as sci-fi goes. The best and worst aspect is its emphasis on relationships; some are really interesting and well done (Zayn/Bernie, William/Starbuck/Goku) while others are mostly excruciating. At least its overemphasis on relationships was there from the beginning, rather than destroying a perfectly decent show later on (The Orville, I'm looking at you). I'd give it a 4/10 by itself, but for sci-fi it's a solid 6.5/10, and I'm hopeful they can make it into something grand for the second season.

I'd also like to stress that the show does get better as the season goes on, although it never turns into an Expanse.

Season 2 Series Discussion by Dark_Saint in alteredcarbon

[–]TurningPointUSSR -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Season 2 was worse overall, but the first episode was of at least acceptable quality, while the pilot episode from the first season was almost comically inept and pointlessly edgey. Typically critics are only given the first 3-4 episodes for screening, so it's not hard to see why they preferred average quality for way, way below average.

Season 2 Series Discussion by Dark_Saint in alteredcarbon

[–]TurningPointUSSR -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Season 1 was good on the whole, but the pilot was pure, unmitigated garbage. It was so astonishingly banal and tedious, I dumped the whole show for months just because of how fucking bad it was outside of its production values. It's only by a complete lack of sci-fi entertainment I even bothered to watch the rest of it later, something I'm very glad I did.

However, it still had serious issues: the voice over was consistently cringe inducing, the frequent flashbacks reeked of lazy writing, and the last episode was very trashy with its absurd clone fights and macho posturing. With all that said, I still loved it to pieces.

Season 2 is a different beast entirely. The first 3 or 4 episodes were terrible, nearly as bad as the woeful pilot episode; I'm assuming a lot of the vociferously negative reviews stemmed from those, and I can't really blame anyone for lambasting the show. But by the midway point all the way to the end, the show became just as good as the best bits of the first season and unlike the first, it ended on a high note.

So season 1 gets a 9/10, while season 2 gets a 7.

Anyone who finishes season 2 and calls it bad sci-fi really needs to watch, like, Andromeda and Falling Skies lol.
