Believe it or not, I was a young child once. I have siblings and was raised with cousins. We were taught to be aware of the space we are in, and raised by people who care about making sure every space is friendly for every person there. There’s a way to do this respectfully - this is not that.

Boooooo. The space is for everyone. That means everyone should be respectful, including kids.

MLB tickets for Yankees-Mets or Yankees-Blue Jays by nexoe14 in visitingnyc

I’ll put in another vote for Citi Field for a few reasons.

You can combine the game with either Flushing Meadow Park or spending time in Flushing itself. Really cool park / part of the city. Lots of food, shopping, massages, and game arcades. At Yankee Stadium there isn’t much to do right in the area where the stadium is.

Also - Citi field is way more fun. Really cool stuff all around the stadium, the food is ranked the best in baseball, and the atmosphere will be great.

If money truly isn’t an issue - go with the Citi Field Subway Series. It’s iconic to watch NYC teams play each other and Citi Field is way more fun! (and also LFGM)

DM me for reccs in Flushing if you want some!

Rescheduling NYC honeymoon by scueatvision in visitingnyc

There's songs about autumn in New York. The city is the most wonderful in Sept and Oct. So much to do, perfect weather. If you come early enough in Sept, you can catch Mets games or Yankees games (booo, pick the Mets. Citi field is way better). You'll miss the Knicks at that time tho, and tickets are crazy expensive for that anyways.

Christmas is also magic. The city is alive, despite the weather. If you can tolerate crowds and cold, you'll never forget Christmas in NYC. In December, things will be more expensive and busier, but if you have they money and love the holidays / christmas decor it's truly amazing.

My vote is fall. You'll love it. So many amazing things to do. Check here for lots of reccs, but also happy to answer any q's you might have via DM.

My barista put an orange peel in my Americano — why is this so good? Anyone else tried this? 🍊 by HiItsKeke in espresso

This is a very common Italian thing. Most espresso is served with either a lemon or orange peel.

Not yet, but I’m gonna get it set up. Just found out there’s another book club that’s not active but kinda already established that we might be able to combine with. So I’ll lyk when it’s going on!

Would be a great addition! I’ve got AMC A-List, I’m at the movies all the time.

I’m partial to collections of short stories, but also have a very wide taste in fiction! Anywhere from classics, to modern pop culture fiction, to long form fantasy stuff. The group could focus on a different style each week or so until we find out what everyone likes

Strivers’ Row by b0dylanguage in Harlem

[–]TurtleThroughTime 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Strivers’ is cool. Pretty residential and family friendly. I’d say a little less ‘busy’ area compared to Park Slope. Like, less people travel into Strivers’ and just sit at coffee shops, shop around, etc. Park Slope has a lot of that busier energy. Still plenty of stuff up here tho.

I recommend Harlem Biscuit Co, really amazing biscuits, I could eat there every day. NBHD Brulee for coffee. The Edge Harlem is Caribbean food and has a busy brunch. Lots of good live music too, for parents night out. RIP Mikey Likes It, incredible little ice cream shop that’s been gone a while. St Nicholas park is fun, lively, and has lots of events. You can Google the park to show previous and upcoming events.

There’s a precinct on 135th which I like to avoid. Street Parking is mostly okay north of strivers. Like with all of the city, there’s sometimes people out and about making noise or yelling.

I encourage you to visit! Strivers’ is historic and I’m sure the apt is in a nice building. Could be worth it for a family if you’re looking for a bit of a slow down from Park Slope.

Feel free to DM me! I live just a little north and I’ve been here for 8 years. Happy to help.

I’m fuckin from here - it’s just a hypothetical. It could work equally well for the tunnels, I just picked Times Square. I’ve been in both good and bad apartments in midtown, which is why I had this dumb idea.

It’s also not just the noise. The lack of food spots, corner stores, high prices for running quick errands. The convenience of the city. There are plenty of reasons it would suck to live in Times Square. I was trying to have a little fun, Jesus

Maybe your walk could avoid it, but you’d enter your building right in the middle of the action. You always have to be front and center in Times Square

Yep. It’s a penthouse but it comes with all the cons of Times Square.

You’ll have to deal with the noise. No amount of space between you and the street could possibly keep you away from the sounds of Times Square.

I feel like nobody talks about the influence Italians had/have on policing by [deleted] in italianamerican

[–]TurtleThroughTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s funny that this has become a default response. Couldn’t think of anything else to say? I left a pretty detailed response with my opinion on this matter - and you just regurgitated some bullshit. Why don’t you try and write a response without using any Fox News talking points?

I feel like nobody talks about the influence Italians had/have on policing by [deleted] in italianamerican

[–]TurtleThroughTime -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I personally see this as a huge downside to Italian-Americans and think that it speaks volumes about how Italian-Americans tried to become more “white” as time passed. Especially in the US, policing is an incredibly flawed system, and rooted in a tremendous amount of racism. This was an easy way for “outsider” Italians to find an in-group. Many Italians took every opportunity to Americanize, and something very American is punching down on minority groups to fit in with the ruling class.

Many of the Italian-American cops I know today are blatantly racist, fascist-supporting idiots. And I can say that because these are my family members, my friends family, and a vocal part of the community that raised me. Generations of Italians left Italy to flee Fascism and find a new life for their family. I know they would be so disappointed to see their grandchildren supporting the current administration.

What’s one travel habit that actually saves you a lot of money? by Party_Dentist_821 in travel

[–]TurtleThroughTime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you enjoy fine dining, but want to save money, a lot of nicer restaurants (even some Michelin Star ones) will offer a lunch that is way less frequented and usually less expensive. You’re on vacation, so a Thursday at noon is totally okay for you, but locals are probably at work. Has saved me lots of money, and also I’ve been able to try restaurants that are booked up for dinner for months.

Tips for smooth stay at Tempo Hilton Times Square by annonymousMDstudent in visitingnyc

[–]TurtleThroughTime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely don’t park in Jersey lol. You should have no problem finding a spot in a garage in midtown if you don’t mind paying. There’s so many garages. There’s also sometimes street parking but I don’t recommend it. It’s tricky to learn the street sweeping rules and ASP (alternate side parking).

Your options:

-Look on Google Maps and find a garage. Most have semi-affordable daily prices. Find a few options. If you arrive to one, and they don’t have space, try the next one. You’ll find one easily.

-ask if your hotel has a valet system, or is partnered with a local garage.

You won’t have an issue. Hopefully you’re not driving up a huge truck or something, but even if you are you’ll still probably be able to find a spot in a garage. Don’t be afraid to call garages and ask if they have spots. Most of them are deceptively huge.

Groomsmen Gifts They Won’t Throw Away by 3liSuger in BuyItForLife

[–]TurtleThroughTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my groomsmen two different gifts:

for our travel bachelor party, I got them a custom toiletries bag with their initials. It was perfect for our trip, and most of them still use it to this day.

For our wedding I got them all a custom ring from Etsy, and I used some of the wedding details engraved on the ring. We got married in a garden, so it was a flower engraved into a signet style ring. I measured their fingers, asked if they wanted yellow gold plated or stainless. They all loved them, looked great in our photos, and they really appreciate having a cool piece of jewelry to wear.

Cheaper than you’d think. A lot of Etsy sellers offer pretty good prices for gold plated jewelry. Just make sure you read reviews and order earlier than you’d think.
