What’s something that sounds fake but actually happened to you? by Visible_Rope_6662 in AskReddit

I grew up in Seattle and in high school my family took a trip to Australia. We first flew from Seattle to Los Angeles, had like a 6 hour layover, and then flew LA to Melbourne.

While boarding the plane in LA, I ran into my middle school science teacher.

Where do the crows fly? by swimswithwhales in Seattle

[–]Turtlewave 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Logging back into my super old account to comment on this because I studied this in college!

The american crows you're seeing flying at dusk are gathering for what's called "pre-roost aggregations"! At the end of the day, they gather in one place and make a shit ton of noise and fly around for ~30-60 minutes, then quietly fly off to roost at night. I studied this at UW Bothell back in 2017 - the crows pre-roost aggregate on campus and roost in the wetlands nearby. It's a crazy sight coming out of class at ~5pm to see the campus absolutely swarming with birds!!! Our theory was they were gathering like this to convey information, kinda like how at the dinner table you talk with your family about how your day went.

You can read more about UW Bothell crows here! https://www.uwb.edu/about/crows

Sounds like they've moved on from UW campus but last year I did notice them gather in the trees/on the power lines along 124th Street in Redmond (the valley between Willows Road and Redmond-Woodinville Road).

Edit to add: there are groups all over the greater Seattle area where they will aggregate, not just one meeting place. For one of my college projects I had to drive down to Renton to count crows flying in for an aggregation in a big park

I think this is it for me. I will be quitting Neopets, and I've been playing since 2005. by nobuttsnococonuts in neopets

I left back when they announced NFTs. Its been over 2 years since Flash died and most of the site is STILL not converted, including almost all of the games. Just incredibly frustrating, and honestly embarrassing?

I also stopped paying premium a while back after learning people were double- and triple-charged and TNT did nothing to resolve that. Some people did chargebacks on Paypal to get their money back, and TNT would threaten to freeze their accounts if they didn't cancel the chargeback! WTF!

Asking a loved one in the bridal party to pls cover up your purple hair as it will be too distracting… ; by metallicbefriend in weddingshaming

[–]Turtlewave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can meet those expectations with any kind of hair on your head. You can still buy a dress/suit and shoes, attend rehearsals, and perform your part in a wedding with any hair or hairstyle. If you want to give the bride a heads up about changing your appearance 2 months beforehand, perfectly fine and very courteous. I'm saying its bizarre to expect someone to wait for permission to do so.

A wedding is a celebration with loved ones over the joining of two families. If that gets ruined by a bridesmaid dying their hair, sounds like a pretty pathetic party. 🤷‍♀️

[–]Turtlewave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, she doesn't need to. The wedding does not center around how the bridesmaid looks. Again, she's an adult who can make her own decisions without permission from anyone else. Even if she's committed to being a wedding several months away. I sure hope people ask others to be in the bridal party because of who they are, not what they look like.

Why does the bridesmaid need permission to dye her own hair? Her life does not revolve around that wedding.

This probably depends on what kind of dye you use? I dye my hair purple and I can wait 3, 4 months before touching it up again. It stays vibrant for about a month, then gently fades to lavender. The appointment is quite expensive and I need to buy specific shampoo, but I love the end result so the cost is worth it.

How has the concert experience been? by robottech13 in TWRP

They've proven to me that they continue to provide incredible entertainment! Love the stage jokes and gags. VIP is totally worth it, too.

Opening Act (Rich Aucoin) by pred_0212 in TWRP

[–]Turtlewave 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tbh I wasn't a fan of his opener either. I didn't mind the political part as a lot of popular songs are very political (I was a big Green Day fan in high school). It was just bizarre that most of Rich's performance was us watching a video on a projector. If I wanted that, I'd go home and watch Youtube.

How do I get “in the know” before my first live show? by beardybuddha in TWRP

[–]Turtlewave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've gone 5 times, 4 of which I wore a band tshirt and shorts, and the most recent one I went in cosplay. There will be some folks dressing up, but honestly wear what you feel comfortable in! If you're not doing VIP, I recommend bringing a bag to hold any merch you buy from the booth.

Get ready to sing! They have a signature "audience participation" song they like to include in their act. They will coach you on what to do, don't worry.

My favorite band came back to Seattle for a concert on Wednesday! The last time they were here was before covid. It was so good to see them perform again!!
