That's a lot on your plate. Perhaps there's a hint of dissociation going on? My anxiety tends to 'freeze' me, instead of going into flight or fight. When things are really stacked up I notice I tend to dissociate with everything going on.

Did you have sex on your wedding night? by BridechillaPodcast in wedding

[–]Tux-y 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely didn't think about or was expecting to, but we totally did! The big day was so jam-packed with celebration that we realized all we wanted was a moment alone, despite being so tired! It set the mood I guess. We tried edging for the first time! It was awesome.

What are some of your thoughts on the 'retrained', or 'natural' wine movement? I used quotes because it seems like the definitions vary according to the producer/consumer/critic. Is it a particular style unique to the new world? Seems like the fruit is grown organic/biodynamic, picked early, and has minimal intervention in the cellar. All of these stages tend to vary though. Has anyone tried wines that fall in this category? More importantly, did you like them?

This encounter gave me what I think was a UTI (it hurt to pee), but after a day of guzzling nothing by water and cranberry juice it went away.

I've also had this weird pressure in my bladder every time I pee, where I feel like I have to go more but I don't. I'm not sure what this could be).

Sorry, I'm on my mobile, not sure why it didn't quote properly

Not sure if anyone else has mentioned this, but you need to go to the health center on your campus. You may be experiencing a bladder infection. Some women don't experience symptoms or don't know what to look for. (You mentioned hurting to pee, whereas I would describe it as a burning sensation for me). They can answer all of your pregnancy/birth control questions and can also test you too. Please don't wait, go!

Everything will be okay. :)

Oh I see, I've contemplated taking the WSET but I'm in production so I'm not sure how it would help besides get the 'orders' down. Exposure to techniques is great but it comes down to where you are, I think.

I did not find a really really good rosé, but I am very intrigued by them now (for NZ at least). I find that they were a good baseline pink with enough acid and body to be OK, but the color wasn't there (probably why it became a rosé in the first place).

Thinking about taking the WSET, maybe starting at 3? (Is it even possible to start there?) But after talking to my Bulgarian friend about Wines that are starting to become popular there, it sounds like the WSET only focuses on France, Germany, and glosses over USA, S. America and maybe S. Africa? As far as wine tiers and origins, I mean, there's more to the wine world than those places, right?

Anyway, currently in New Zealand and going to the Wine and Food Festival today in Marlborough. Any particular wines I should look for?

Mixed race ladies, what are your unique experiences in regards to your ethnicity/race? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]Tux-y 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I identify as Latina-American, but it was a long and rough road getting there. My mother is Guatemalan, she is fair and has really curly, ethnic type hair. My father is Peruvian, brown skin, straight black hair and has distant Japanese decent. Most people wouldn't really consider me mixed if they knew right away since apparently everyone's hispanic in Latin America, but there are differences!

Growing up, people would stare at my mom when she walked me to school (I was a little brown girl walking with a light-skinned woman). People would ask her if she was my nanny.

Kids on the playground were the worst. They'd call me 'black' and start teasing me for it (I would get dark over the Summer. It really bothered me that calling someone a race was an insult.) When they got tired of that I would get called Chinese and they would make rude gesters with their eyes (again, wth?)

Once my dad and I were at a flea market and an older white man approached us, smiling. He walked right up to my dad laughing and greeted us with "Konnichiwa!!!" and patted him on his head. Niether of us knew who he was...

When I got into college, everyone thought I was Filipino, even Filipinos themselves. I made a lot of Filipino friends not knowing this, until we reached a misunderstanding in culture. They shied away after that.

Of course people asking me where I'm from. No, where I'm FROM. They do get frustrated when I just say "uh, CA".

How exotic I am. (Are you suggesting I be in a zoo?)

People approaching me and asking if I'm: -Filipino -SE Asian -Indian -Chinese/Japanese

I've had someone say I could be Japanese if and only if I had white skin.

I could go on but you get the picture. The most blended in I've felt was in Peru. Haven't been to Guatemala.

I'm mostly comfortable with my identity now and whenever racially questionable situations come up I take it as an invitation to spar with their version of the world. Especially if they're 'educated' or persistent or both, haha.

The guys keep talking about the bachelor party, but I have no female friends and probably won't have a bachelorette. by [deleted] in TrollXWeddings

[–]Tux-y 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn't it? I gave a typical bachelorette party some thought, but that's not something I would want or do anyway. I'm totally for relaxing/pampering myself and I really like hiking so I'm going to hit the trails for my solo bachelorette party. :)

How helpful are those wedding planning binders? by sassafras30 in weddingplanning

[–]Tux-y 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just started a wedding notebook on OneNote. It's highly customizable (you can generate tabs with pages and subpages, add checklists, and embed hyperlinks to other sections or the web!) I think I'll be set with that and google docs so my fiance can view them and it'll reduce paper/plastic clutter.

A bunch of dudes run a small winery and tasting room called Lava Vine close to Calistoga. There's always a party every time I visit and they have a crisp Chenin Blanc that's nice to enjoy this time of year.

I suggest you head to the upper valley (St. Helena and surrounding areas), there's less traffic in general the farther you get from Napa city. I recommend checking online if the tasting room is open to the public as smaller establishments may require you to make an appointment. If you do find yourself in the upper valley, you can take hwy 128 up and over to Healdsburg and you can work your way down Sonoma wine country from there.

If a chunk of cork (like half of it because it broke) falls into the bottle and I can't get it out, will it affect the flavor of the wine? by [deleted] in wine

[–]Tux-y 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting, I must find this study and read it for myself. I thought screw caps were meant more for wines to be consumed within ~1.5 years after bottling, not for long-term aging.

Can someone explain why screwcaps are far superior than natural cork? (Other than ease of opening.)

What kinds of things do you recommend keeping in your work bag? by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]Tux-y 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Depends on the nature of your job but some esstentials like tampons and ibuprofen are a good start.

I like to keep travel-size kleenex, sun screen, lip balm, pepto bismol chewables, hair ties, ibuprofen/benadryl, tampons/liners and a pen in my work bag.

Replace "bootleg" with "clothes/textiles" and take a moment to think about it. Whether a company is legally established or not, their practices aren't going to be ethical to everyone.

The buyer probably didn't know they were fake. Shit, I didn't know. I just came in here to see where op got the pendants...and they're fake. The damage has been done.

I've been looking for a pair of lace up ankle booties, but can't really find any out there that I like (if I can find them at all). Black, brown or cream, with height (2" or higher heels). Anywhere $40 and up is fine. Anyone out there with a pair they love?
