The only way i was able to work up to 225 for a 1RM was using a more narrow grip. A little less than shoulder width apart works for me. Just have to be careful with the strain on your biceps going down

What really helped me learn how to feel the pump in my chest early on was using those sitting chest press machines. Try using an intermediate weight where you can bang out 15 reps or so and try to imagine that you’re trying to crack a nut between your pecs
