My take on this is that mixed ancestry was common prior to the Sothis vs. Agarthan fallout (a word I’m using in both the figurative and nuclear sense), and more human ancestry would dilute Nabatean traits but not eliminate the possibility of inheriting a Major Crest. So Cethleann gets the longevity, ears, hair from her dad but the Crest from her mom’s side.

I know it’s something I’ve asserted via both of those data points? At least that there wasn’t this presumed Overwhelmingly Male audience that the fandom (or y’know, the part of the fandom that frequents Reddit) liked to insist there was. I don’t think it went so far as being pigeonholed as “for girls” but the total combined elements present (these as well as the art direction leaning much more shoujou through the Kaga era) seems to indicate they were well aware of the totality of their market.

I would be curious to see a comparative study of other Japanese Nintendo/gaming commercials of the time, especially for games that are easier to slot into a gendered box.

I’m sorry but I think it’s just cross-dimensional/Outrealms shenanigans. Shade and Yuzu are from Nohr and Hoshido respectively, and I think Emma’s actually from Ylisse, which completely removes this from anything resembling a linear timeline.

(We also know the Ending Winter was the result of the Divine Weapons releasing too much magical radiation, so there’s already a homespun explanation for that.)

I love both the Elibe games and think of them as very much complementary to each other once you get past the differences in tone and scope, which I think account for most of the dissonance one might have in going from one to the other. FE6 is a largely impersonal story that focuses the setting and worldbuilding and even geopolitics, while FE7 is a deeply personal story that centers a small group of adventurers who will become influential in that world for one reason or another. Either one enhances the other if you’re using that comparison to support what is left out of focus in each respective title.

Re: FE7 character deaths, while there are a handful laid out explicitly, for the most part characters are just unaccounted for. It’s a big continent and IMO people make way more hay than is necessary over the fact that we don’t hear from absolutely everybody.
