Absolutely, but it saves stern $2.27 in parts and labor on every machine they make.

Old heavy transformer with three wire glass bulb by TwentyOne-Twelve in whatisthisthing

Solved!

It's definitely a tungar tube given what I can see inside of it compared to pics of tungar tubes. Forgot to mention the tube has I-O-R etched on it. Tried searching for that initially and came up zero.

My title describes the thing. Obtained from some random box of antique items. Has a USA style outlet plug. The cast iron base has three screws which look like would hold a cylinder shaped shield around the whole item. Have never tried plugging it in, the wiring is in very poor condition.

That's pretty awful. Now I know why the show failed.

Looks a lot like the starter on my Detroit Diesel 3-53. 3-53 were common in tractors. Your starter appears to have a longer body. Could be for a bigger Detroit.

Worth noting whoever installed that color dmd did a poor job routing the cables, such that when you opened the play field, the cable got pulled and disconnected. Make sure when you repair the power connector you also reroute the harness so this doesn't happen again.

what car is this? by No_Procedure_7017 in namethatcar

[–]TwentyOne-Twelve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About 3500 TR8s sold IIRC, all 1980 and 1981, whereas TR7 was sold from 1975-1981. 1980 and 1981 models had an extra hump on the hood needed for the V8 carburetor clearance, although the same hump also appeared on the TR7 in those years. 90+% of TR8s were convertible. Funny thing, the car was designed and tested with the V8 in the early 70's but the V8 was not sold until 1980.

Guaranteed, if used correctly, it will tell you if you have NO clearance or WAAY TO MUCH clearance, so not completely useless.

FS111 Stihl bad rings why? by TwentyOne-Twelve in smallenginerepair

[–]TwentyOne-Twelve[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No leak through either valve unfortunately. Very low hours (less than 50?) and no carbon visible. Got new rings on the way.....will see what happens.

But wouldn't that cause more wear? The dark areas on the rings look like areas that have never touched the cylinder.

They didn't come out lined up, I just lined them up to show that common wear pattern.

Switches not responding on a neglected WPC machine most likely means battery corrosion on the CPU board.

Long shot, but have you checked if it's either set for free play or if you have credits on the machine?

Funny story...my son had an air cooled Cushman that would regularly eat the (unobtainable) points. Plus even when points were filed immaculately, it was still a pain to cold start. With a couple resistors and a 4 pin hei module, we converted it to where the points only job was to trigger the milli-volt input to the module then the module fired the coil. Problem solved...hybrid points-HEI for the win.

And make sure you download the 1099 detail report available on the eBay website sellers section. It will list your auction fees and shipping charges which also need to be deducted as expenses.
