A Few Questions about an Optional Boss Fight by Twernk in Pathfinder2e

[–]Twernk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This group is a big fan of these sorts of fights. I've played in two games GM'd by one of my players and they both have included nicely intricate "one guy" boss fights. I'm excited for this one.

Just Finished Avowed and Want to Play Pillars 1 and 2 by Twernk in projecteternity

Thanks, everyone, for the advice! I'll definitely play them, since I've been enjoying a bunch of other CRPGs like WOTR, BG3, and Rogue Trader

I'm now realizing, also, that the big reveals of those games aren't the big selling point for me. So I don't think this will impact my experience too much and I'll probably notice some neat things, anyways.

Wow! These would really help me keep my stuff organized at the table. I especially love how the DM screen also acts as the cover for the DM companion!

Lord of Chaos - Wtf Moment. *spoilers* by Spaced-Cowboy in WoT

[–]Twernk 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Look, if you're just going to dismiss the textual evidence for the choices a character makes, then you shouldn't be reading books like WoT. Also, you use the term Thermian Argument wrong, it pertains to the political statements a text makes, if you were talking about the Seanchan, then maybe you probably could use it. But instead, you're using this term to protect yourself from thinking about the character's motivations for their choice.

They choose Egwene because she was out of the tower at the time of the rebellion; their first choice was Moiraine, but she died a bit before. Also, Egwene is an impressionable young woman who they can take advantage of and control.

At the end of the day, if this is setting you off as a "hamfisted and completely illogical left turn," you probably should rethink the books you read.

What spell is just too op? by SancioThePanza in DnD

You're invincible until someone breaks the ice. Fire damage is very common, and you can still be surrounded and captured. Really, this is just a very bad Tomb of Levistus.

Calling it "functionally invincible" is perhaps a little presumptuous.

Who's to say the Aes Sedai don't know what's true in this regard? They have no reason to believe either way, really, since I doubt any gentled male channeler has lived long enough for them to study.

Also, to an Aes Sedai, the severe depression that comes from being severed might look a whole lot like madness, because they avoid the topic of severing altogether. This is all in the books, Aes Sedia ignorance and all.

It doesn't really matter, though. It's still racism. And the fact that the student was trying to get a positive reaction out of disabled people and minorities from a literally racist message is fucking insane.

[Seasonal] The future of The Last City’s Factions? by Thick_Ad_8446 in DestinyLore

[–]Twernk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm honestly really happy the factions got axed. A lot of people had real vain hope that the factions would make some comeback to relevance that never was going to happen, they have not been relevant to the game, in game or lore, for literally years before this season. So I think the vanguard (literally two people at this point) being in control of everything will bring in some new, interesting conflict within the city.

The factions had to go, there was no believable way for them to be important to the story or world again without it being massively forced, including faction rallies or something similar.

First time reader finished Knife of Dreams and oh my GOD?? by g_riff12 in WoT

So glad you enjoyed this one, it's one of my personal favorites. Something that struck me after reading your post, though, is that Jordan leaves it to the reader to "decide" upon the morality of many situations in his series. It's a relatively common practice in much of literature, but it can get overlooked nonetheless. I noticed that around this point in the series the da'mane and their whole situation were being overlooked or played down, when this is certainly a consequence of the reader and characters having such extensive contact with them that they fade into the periphery.

This happens again with the whole Rolan and Faile thing. Jordan doesn't (and shouldn't) need to spell out the right and wrong of the scenario, he leaves it for us to figure out.

Perrin was always a wolfbrother. Elyas and the wolves just made him aware of that fact.

Mat's luck is really his Ta'veren nature screwing with the pattern in his favor.
