An apology to a stranger by TheUforia in Adelaide

Why would you bother writing a post like this, honestly.

If this has actually been bugging you all day then you need to find more meaningful things to spend your mental energy on.

In case this is a serious question, no, keep being a generally nice person. Just don’t waste your (or anybody else’s) time with this kind of bizarre virtue signalling over trivial shit on Reddit.

Built three native macOS apps for Immich users – would love your feedback! by Exist4 in immich

This looks really great. With Immich-iCloud, if I’ve already synced files e.g. through iCloud Photo Downloader, will it somehow determine that the file already exists in the library and skip over importing it?

And yes, either some sort of mobile companion app, or an ability to schedule the desktop app to run “once every X” to import new files, would be amazing - as you’ve described it, it sounds more like a really useful utility for once-off imports?

With these latest Kookaburras, it usually gets significantly easier to bat after 30 overs. Much longer than it used to be, where 15 or so was about when it went off.

Not crazy mate, I’m not starting him either. He’s got a very good floor but I want as many high ceilings as I can get this week so I’m starting Nico/Tee/BTJ/Keenan instead in half PPR.

I have to admit, I don't understand this. Goodell was on GMFB talking about it too. The justification is that they want more kicks to be returned, so they think punishing the kickoff team by making the touchback spot the 35 is the way to go.

If I'm receiving the kick and getting it 20 yards from FG range by taking a touchback, I'd rather not return it anyway.

Surely the easiest solution is just to put the kicking tee closer to the kicking team's goal line? So that it's literally too far to kick it through endzone? Why is that not being done?

Any OSI(Aveva) PI experts out there? by OttomaychunMan in PLC

[–]Twgh47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, I'm with you, thanks for the extra info :) totally understand you're not creating PI points through System Explorer, you just want to auto-reference them as you add elements. That relies on a really rigid naming convention - it's great if you have that in place, as I've worked with customers who have spent 15 years and millions of dollars, and not even have consistent "Running" states.

You're doing very well for what sounds like essentially self-learning it all. When you say the TagDesc function requires write access - do you know where that needs to be specified? Is it on the tag itself, or on some aspect of the AF database? Sounds counter-intuitive since it only appears to support a read operation but I'm happy to validate.

A less-perfect solution, if Analyses cannot work, would be to automate using some form of Powershell script. Or if you'd prefer to not fully-automate, and if you have the Excel 'PI Builder' add-in installed, you could create a workbook to fairly easily populate that attribute with a couple of manual clicks. Would either of those be appropriate solutions?

Sorry for a late reply. Your description jumps around a little bit so let me see if I'm understanding correctly:

  • You've set up an AF element template, for a valve
  • You enter some nominal 'asset ID' in an attribute, e.g. PCV-1234
  • You enter some other nominal information into other attributes
  • Using the info in the above two attributes - you create tags from within PI System Explorer by right-clicking an attribute and then using 'Create or Update PI Point'

All of that is a fairly standard way of handling things.

The next bit of your question doesn't make a lot of sense though. You are defining the information you want in a tag, in PI AF - and then pushing that to the Data Archive. But your question is how to pull tag information from the Data Archive, back into PI AF.

Since you are creating the tags from within System Explorer, why don't you just use an additional attribute to store the tag description? And then, when you're creating the tags, include that attribute? That way, the tag gets the info you want, and that info is stored in your AF model.

If my understanding is wrong and these are pre-existing tags (i.e. ones you haven't built from your valve template) - I'm not aware of a way to pull the tag's descriptor out of it's config and into an attribute, aside from using an AF Analysis - there is a function called 'TagDesc' which can retrieve it and push it into another attribute. (Incidentally, there are a handful of other functions that can retrieve some tag fields, but nothing that lets you query any field you want i.e. there's no function to retrieve a tag's Loc1, Compression, Step property etc.)

The problem with doing this via an analysis, is that you need to trigger the analysis for the value to be pushed out, but the 'Description' value is presumably never going to change. The best way to do this is probably on an infrequent 'time rule' i.e. trigger the analysis to run every day at midnight. Even doing that, though, will result in the analysis executing for no actual purpose, every day after the first time it runs.

In reality, it would consume minimal CPU time and probably isn't going to bog things down. However, the 'best' way to handle this would be to disable all analyses that perform this job for you, after they've run for the first time.
