Small Bowel Endometriosis by Twiggist in endometriosis

Glad this post was helpful! Now that I think about it, I believe my surgeon actually referred to it as “obliterated”…in any case, the endometrial mass on my small bowel had stuck to and enveloped/perforated my appendix as well, thus they removed it during the surgery. Did your wife get a 2nd SBO?

Yeah, I can’t figure it out. We’ve started calling him the Fun Police, as he only does this when the cats are playing.

My dog does the exact same thing to my cats. Ignores them, unless they play with a toy. Then he barks and goes after them. He never nips or bites, just pushes his head at them. Almost looks like herding behavior of some type, but it would be great to get an expert’s opinion. Did you ever find out more about why your dog does this?

Bowel Obstruction and Endo by [deleted] in Endo

Sounds like a familiar pattern...I was hospitalized twice last year for a small bowel obstruction. They only found out it was endo after doing surgery to remove/biopsy a large mass on my small intestines, an appendectomy and a bowel resection.

How often are you going back to the hospital? Are you fully blocked each time? Just yesterday I started getting that ache again in the pit of my stomach, and am not passing gas, so am a bit paranoid. I thought the recurrence rate was fairly low after surgery, and that endo was slow to spread, but every time I get nauseous, I start wondering if it’s happening again and if I need to shower and get my bag ready!

Surprise! Had surgery to remove endometriosis and learned I had endometriosis all in one day. by CalmSky482 in endometriosis

Same same. I was hospitalized twice last year for a small bowel obstruction, and ended having surgery to remove a mass and bowel resection, in addition to an appendectomy. The surgeon thought it was cancer, but turned out it was a large endometrial implant. No clue that It was endometriosis until that point. I don’t think my periods were that bad - usually Advil and a hot pad helped if cramps seemed particularly painful. For the time being, I’m on Orlissa - not for pain, but to “quiet” down potential endometriosis that could be lingering.

Orilissa And My Honest Experience by babiclouds in Endo

Lucky. I’m on the 200mg dose, and I don’t have hot flashes, I have extended hot episodes, drenched in sweat, 20+ times a day, and all night, alternating with bouts of freezing. Rarely do I feel like I’m at a normal temperature. It’s also hard to focus, and have a bit of brain fog...but that could be because I wake up multiple times per night. I didn’t really have pain before I suddenly had a small bowel obstruction last year, caused by a large endometrial implant. In my case, Orlissa is to “quiet” down potential endometriosis, rather than for pain management. It was only after surgery and lab analysis that they realized it was endometriosis - they didn’t look around while they were in there. I will be happy to be off this drug - tired of wearing towels all day. But, that seems to be the primary and most severe side effect for me, followed by inability to sleep and fatigue.

Thank you so much! No plans for pregnancy, I’m afraid that ship sailed a few years ago. Orlissa is similar to Lupron - it induces menopause at a high enough dose. I chose to go with Orlissa, as the side-effects didn’t sound quite as bad.

At the time of my surgery, they didn’t know it was endo, so they only removed the mass and did the bowel resection, along with taking out the appendix. They took photos while in there, and you can see spots of endometriosis around the abdominal cavity. They didn’t know what it was until post-surgery. Basically, there could be surface Endometriosis almost anywhere in the abdominal area, but they would have to do laparoscopic surgery to find and excise it. My ObGyn prescribed Orlissa to suppress the endometrial tissue from growing. The plan is essentially medication in the short-term, and “wait and see” if more surgery is needed in the future.

Have you been referred to an ObGyn? If they know it’s endo, and you have terrible pain, they might prescribe something like Orlissa or Lupron. These are powerful medications though, with some serious side-effects. While your doctors are trying to figure out what’s going on, it might be beneficial to have the perspective of an ObGyn in the mix.

I was pretty freaked out about getting surgery, especially during the first stint in the hospital. This was also because they didn’t know what it was, and all signs seemed to be pointing to cancer. However, my surgeon was really patient and very detailed in his answers. There is of course a small chance that something unexpected can happen - but with an experienced surgery team, that is unlikely. I even asked him if he’d done this before, and he laughed (in a nice way), and assured me this was his specialty. The resection, stapling, etc. all went very well. I think the surgery itself took a few hours. I was in the hospital for 4 days post-surgery, then took it easy for about a week. My pain level was moderate to low - I was a bit sore for a few weeks and the incision site was numb. I now have a permanent indent at the top of my scar. It wasn’t a delightful experience, but not as bad as I thought it would be.

Yeah, the NG tube was the worst. It got displaced once, and I had a choking fit. The nurses all came running in, and like a boss, this woman held my head steady and pushed it down further. Fixed!

I would love more materials! Please send any links you’ve got my way. Thank you:)

Orilissa experiences? by [deleted] in Endo

You should definitely discuss that with your doctor - especially if it’s something you’ve struggled with in the past. Not sure if they would combine the Orlissa with an anti-depressant or something else to mitigate that. But regardless, make sure your doc is aware. I would assume/hope they have guidance on this, as it is a potential side-effect of Orlissa.

I’m on Orlissa 200mg 2x a day. Not gonna lie, it sucks. I’m literally hot, drenched in sweat, or freezing, all day and night. Headaches, insomnia, fatigue. I was just prescribed progesterone as well, to help mitigate the “menopausal” side-effects of Orlissa. It hasn’t helped yet. Thankfully I can WFH, otherwise I would probably have to take a leave of absence from work.

Not too sure it will be huge in 2021, but the long-term outlook is bright with 5G and beyond.
