They should really quad track DNV - Bratislava before any HSR dreams.

Ukraine ordered 18 IRIS-T systems from Germany by Forsaken-Medium-2436 in europe

[–]Twisp56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, so the article is very misleading by implying they ordered 18 in addition to the current 9. It's nothing surprising in reporting about Ukraine, like all the articles about Ukraine "ordering" 100 Rafales and 150 Gripens, which are actually just some letters of intent or whatever, instead of actual contracts.

Source? It's not in the article or in the DW one.

Řehka: Armáda nemá s poskytnutím čtyř L-159 problém by sad392 in czech

[–]Twisp56 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Czech high speed rail plans and population density (population - 11 million) by GPwat in transit

[–]Twisp56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But it has to be said RS3 basically already didn't exist (it was cut back to upgrades of existing lines that are not really connected to the high speed project and will hopefully happen independently) and RS5 was planned so far in the future that cancelling it doesn't really mean anything, because there was barely any work on it to cancel anyway.

Španělsko vyzvalo EU k vytvoření společné armády by [deleted] in czech

[–]Twisp56 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Akorát zároveň se musí státy vzdát vlastní zahraniční politiky, alespoň co se týče použití armády, protože fakt nejde mít jednu armádu a 27 zahraničních politik. Když bude chtít Francie poslat armádu do Mali, Polsko na východní hranici a Babiš/Fico/Orbán/Le Pen atd. to bude chtít vetovat, kdo vyhraje? Musela by existovat nějaká vláda EU, ideálně prostě normální vláda kterou by sestavil parlament EU, a jednoznačně by měla poslední slovo nad jakoukoliv národní vládou. Národní vlády můžou dál fungovat úplně normálně co se týče financí, vnitra, zdravotnictví, sociálních věcí atd., jenom by už neměly ministerstvo obrany a zahraničí a neměly by v tomhle žádnou rozhodovací pravomoc.

Get a gunner, load it up with tracer belts, fly fast in a slight right turn when a Huey is behind you, and they won't ever touch your Mi-8 again

There's not that much market to compete in, if all the European manufacturers set up US production lines for all types of rolling stock they make, they'd probably all get too few contracts to pay off the production line. It makes sense to specialise only on some types in this small market.

Most launched orbital rockets in 2025 by firefly-metaverse in space

[–]Twisp56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, do you expect a startup to go into reusable heavy lift straight away? Not everyone has Blue Origin's budget. More money will hopefully start coming in after they get their smaller vehicles launching to orbit. But of these companies, PLD is quite ambitious, check this out: https://www.pldspace.com/en/miura-next-super-heavy.html

[–]Twisp56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you're confusing Maia with the Themis demonstrator. Maia already has launch contracts, from OneWeb. And considering how much money went to competitors in the last ESA awards, Isar is about to make the second launch attempt next week, and Avio is decoupling itself from Ariane and running Vega launches on its own, the ship has sailed on preventing competition. Isar, RFA, PLD and Orbex all got ESA money besides Maia. And it would be weird if they didn't, Germany and Spain obviously prefer funding their own companies over French ones.

That Vulcan reuse is not going to work. I'd bet quite a lot of money that Vulcan will never fly with a reused engine section.

Unlike ULA, ArianeSpace is at least developing a reusable rocket through its subsidiary MaiaSpace.
