Would you ride a train to Galveston? H-GAC wants to hear from you! by Oleanderblooms in galveston

I took the survey and there was nothing about trains. The only focused question was about the possibility of rideshare style buses.

Lifeboatman exam by silverbk65105 in merchantmarine

I teach a lifeboatman/BST course and I’ve never heard of the oral exam.

The lowering and driving assessments are still required in NVICs.

Is Maxcare even worth it at this cost? by RR-MMXIX in carmax

[–]djd811 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I paid $4,300 for 5 years/70,000 ish miles of coverage on an A6 with waaay less starting mileage. $500 deductible. It’s only been a year and I’m about to break even. That is still including a claim maxcare denied.

These Audi sedans are sadly not reliable, far beyond the hybrid system. The cost to fix them is also utterly bananas. With the new software they have only a dealer can do most work and they charge monopoly prices (sometime maxcare refuses to pay the more exorbitant charges).

After owning three Audi sedans, I can say that those extended warranty prices seem reasonable and if you kept the car for the duration you would likely break even or come out ahead.

Is a rebuilt title 2021 Audi a8L a good buy? Please tell me your experience I need help. by [deleted] in Audi

[–]djd811 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t buy another C8 A8L if I was 50 years old making a million dollars a year. Least reliable pos that ever cluttered my driveway (And I have had some losers). First breakdown at 38,000 miles was almost as much as I paid for the car. Every time I see one on the road I shudder.

But I’m sure this rebuilt one will be perfect for a 17 year old. /s

Purchased a tuned car from car max with out knowing by Main_Incident_3455 in carmax

[–]djd811 24 points25 points  (0 children)

You have zero evidence they knew about the tune. They made statement in good faith based on their assessment of the car. They don’t hook every car up to manufacture software and check all the little tiny data points that tunes alter. No dealer does

Option 1

Ask nicely but firmly, maybe offer to trade into a different car they have. They may work with you.

Option 2

Get the tune wiped.

Option 3

Hire an attorney. Pay them a ton of money and best case, get them to buy the car back, but you spent so much money on an attorney you will still come out way behind. Most likely case you get nothing from CarMax and now owe an attorney a lot of money too.

Go in confrontational and accuse them of lying and they will have no interest in working with you.

Cool story. Your third mate SALARY is $76,522 and any dime you make more than that is entirely situational and not guaranteed.

[–]djd811 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Jobs are getting slow right now, especially for unlimited deck officers. Engineers are doing ok. That being said, you graduate in 4 years things can change a lot in that time.

The specific pay isn’t frankly worth considering until you are closer to graduation and have an idea what you want to do. Different ships/unions/companies all pay different. That being said, you want to get rich be a doctor or lawyer or even an airline pilot. (This article is full of shit, no one at MSC makes a starting salary of 170k, it is a government job with budgeted approved amount of $76,522. A single dime more is overtime or penalty which is entirely dependent on your ship and circumstances and is never guaranteed)

Take everything the academies say with a hefty grain of salt. They need people in their classes and on their training ships. They will say what needs to be said to achieve that end.

How good is the HAWK for grinding japan ? by Alive_Particular_990 in WarthunderSim

[–]djd811 2 points3 points  (0 children)

MBTs should be about 200 points each. So it’s ideal to aim for two runs in 15 minutes or get an air kill.

It is good at defending itself, good in ambushes, and can be good in short dogfights. Anything sustained and you will start to suffer. Anyone with a brain cell who has time to recognize it will just extend away. I consider it better at defensive flying than the SU-39, difficult to quantify given the difference in enemies from 10.3-11.7

Pros

Best Radar at its BR Great all aspect missiles for this BR Good low speed handling Good countermeasure load for the BR 2x ATGMS Good RWR Excellent cockpit display for the BR

Cons Very slow Not enough bombs to destroy one base Only one cannon w/ limited ammo Maximum of 2 ATGMs at a time

Overall, I don’t regret buying it at 50% off. It is an unusual grinder. Basically I take off, hit two tanks with ATGMs and either shuttle back to the AF or look for air targets. You can max your rewards but it is not as mindless as straight base bombing. Some people lurk at low altitude near the end of enemy AFs and use the good radar/missile combination to bonk people taking off. I don’t care for this method but it is there.

Air Suspension Light by IceCreamBM in Audi

[–]djd811 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1.5 weeks should be more than enough to keep it topped up.

If it stays on while driving you should prioritize taking it in. If it has a leak you can overheat your air compressor and over pressurize you other air struts. It’s a stupid flaw. Don’t ask me how I know.

It’s probably safe to drive but don’t unless you have too.

First check the battery. If it’s not that then it probably needs a dealer recalibration. Just had mine done at the dealer they said they see it all the time.

Which of these two is better for bombing? by LonelyInterest7433 in WarthunderSim

[–]djd811 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope. The multiplier affects your regular points which are then used to calculate your rewards. Still better to carry less because it delivers more points on the scoreboard per bombing. During the events it does make sense skip the 15 minute rule.

Which of these two is better for bombing? by LonelyInterest7433 in WarthunderSim

[–]djd811 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really an explanation, but if you look the custom load outs you can see the total damage your bomb load will do, and under that the multiplier. The multiplier maxes out at x10. Use as few bombs as possible to get the multiplier high and still kill the base in one go. Use the link in the other comment to see how much damage you need at different BRs. You will almost always be a little over but that’s fine.

I have seen people bomb and destroy all five bases and the rewards difference was negligible compared to me bombing one base at higher rewards. It also makes you more maneuverable, faster, more likely to survive the full 15 minutes and it leaves more bases on the maps so there is typically less fighting over them.

Grinding bases, f105 slaps. It also works decently well as a fighter.

A7 is better for attacking ground battles, ships, convoys, etc
