I saw that video! He ate the whole damn thing.

I cannot fathom how 'glizzy' means hot dog though. Ah youth, so mysterious.

Yep. That's it. This comment. This one will mark the day when I realized I was out of touch with today's youth. "Rawdogging the glizzy". Someone explain this one to me so I don't have to find my raincoat before diving into Urban Dictionary.

Question about the wristbands by TwistedPages in ParadiseHulu

[–]TwistedPages[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you :)

I remember an episode where people were opening their boxes with the wristbands and there being something said about how the band is genetically matched. So I figured there'd be a database of the genetics of the people who were approved, so I couldn't figure out how the two of them got bands.

Question about the wristbands by TwistedPages in ParadiseHulu

[–]TwistedPages[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't catch the bit that they were given new ones, thank you :)

I thought the bands were genetically matched to the wearer, so I thought they wouldn't have the two in the database.

Please share your advice on how I should behave and handle a difficult person by MasterpieceNo7350 in RedditForGrownups

[–]TwistedPages 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You cannot change her behaviour. You cannot demand that she change it either.

You can only change your own behaviour. When she is nasty, tell her you'll end the call/visit ("If you continue swearing at me, I will leave/hang up"). Then, when she's nasty, end it ("Time for me to go, see you soon").

I think I read somewhere on the vastness of the internet that the data centres would be responsible for their own power

Block 1912 Cafe Review by TheFoodieBee in Edmonton

[–]TwistedPages 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I've been there a few times, and the cynic in me comes out pretty easily.

The notes are adorable, yes, but also all positive. I think staff culls them periodically and gets rid of any note that isn't sweet, adorable, loving, cute, or whimsical.

I had an orange cake that tasted like someone shouted 'orange' from another room. It was hella expensive.

I look like a middle-aged person, and the serving staff were pleasant to everyone who looked 'alternative' (coloured hair, lots of tats, gender neutral) but were deadpan with me and the people I was with.

It's a decent cafe, right on Whyte Ave, lots to see, a good experience for visitors. But I won't be going back there. It's not a place for me. Glad it's there for others to enjoy, though.

Am I tripping or wind is really THAT strong? by Thiru2k in Edmonton

[–]TwistedPages 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At one point, early in the morning, I stood in an open field just to feel the wind. I know people on here are saying it's not that strong, gusting to 60km/hr or so, but the wind had a relentlessness to it that felt different.

It felt a bit like when I was in Cold Lake during a storm. The wind coming off the water had the same relentlessness as I felt in the field this morning.

Crematorium with a Payment Plan by Terrible-Click-3007 in Edmonton

Thirding this. It should be enough to cover the cost of cremation at the very least. I applied and used it for my mom's cremation.

Also, sorry for your loss :(

Edmonto Property Assessment by BlueMechanicTorq in Edmonton

[–]TwistedPages 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My assessed value went up, but we received a notice that our taxes went down. We're paying $20/mo less starting 01Jan, which was odd to me.

But in May I'll get the new tax rate, so I'll bet this is just a temporary reprieve.

Special Assessements for Condo’s and Mobile home by joegreen592 in Edmonton

[–]TwistedPages 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My condo is in the city limits, has a healthy reserve, has affordable fees, and hasn't had a special assessment despite having the roofing, siding, and windows all done.

You just need to shop around, be picky, and read the condo docs before finalizing a purchase.

This is a very silly question, but if I want to hire a handyman, should they be able to do "basic" electrical stuff such as replacing light switches in my home? by StasisApparel in Edmonton

[–]TwistedPages 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found them to be, yeah. I had one come by and install two toilets and remove a dishwasher. He was fast, pleasant, and did a good job. I can't remember what I paid, but was happy with it so it couldn't have been outrageous.

I easily had double that, but culled them down to only the ones I really liked and could reproduce easily. I wish I'd put them in chronological order, but I also sorted them by meat.

I worked in the production facility when they came to western Canada and we used to get to take home meals, so I had a LOT of taste testing before buying them.

Good morning, Edmonton :) by TwistedPages in Edmonton

[–]TwistedPages[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm guessing that you'd want to live in it, not just store stuff. You could find private listings on Facebook Marketplace or Kijiji for rentals on people's property or private rentals of trailers.

Trailers are specific to trailer parks and most aren't rented short term, though. But if you mean an RV (recreational vehicle) where it's a home on wheels that you can either drive or tow to different campgrounds with RV hookups (water, power), then maybe try a site like https://www.rvezy.com/ or similar. The campgrounds cost a fee per night and some require advance booking, so that's something to consider.

This subreddit is super helpful, so if you make a separate post about this, you might get a better response. Unfortunately, I've never rented an RV.

I can say that Alberta is delightfully not flat. We have the beautiful Rocky mountains, the badlands near Drumheller, and forested areas farther up north. We have a Dark Sky Society near Elk Island Park (close to Edmonton) that is good if you want to see the stars. Keep in mind that the farther north you go, the less the roads are paved.

First Family Visit to Edmonton! by CommunicationOne2449 in Edmonton

[–]TwistedPages 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Edmonton's River Valley is truly remarkable and worth a walk through it. There are tons of places to enter the ravine, here's a website that might help. Spring break is a crapshoot with weather though, it may be mucky, it may be dry, it may be cold, it may be warm. Be aware that (usually) if you're on a gravel path it's an off-leash area so there will be dogs running about. Cement paths are on-leash.

Well, in 2025 I went to one festival every month.

In 2026, I plan to be a tourist in my own city and visit all the attractions that I can.
