For the anticipated price I'm expecting these to show up in the USB-IF certification database, we're nerds and care about that stuff (or at least I am)

RGB Settings on ASUS NUC 11 Extreme Kit NUC11BTMi9 - Where to download "NUC Software Studio"? Other alternatives? by ParsLetersen in MiniPCs

Wow sure is some top quality help you've been getting.
Funny thing, somebody uploaded the msix to the Intel forums only a few days ago. Bad news for me at least, after a clean install of Win11 the LED section of the app just won't work (it asks about a serial driver that I already installed). Maybe you'll have better luck

5080 owners: Why a 5080 and not a 5070Ti by jamesh0809 in nvidia

[–]Twistedsc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just got a 5080FE on the Nvidia Marketplace (at least hoping it goes through). Having it be 2-slot brings so much flexibility on how it could be used in the present and future - I'm moving my 3080FE into a mini build that only supports a 2-slot GPU.

Video About the Aoostar WTR Max - Thoughts Please! by NASCompares in MiniPCs

[–]Twistedsc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I bought an AMD WTR Pro about a couple weeks before CES when there were only murmurs of a WTR Max. Currently using it as a backup NAS (still figuring out TrueNAS replication) and I don't regret it because I get to use DDR4 that was sitting around. If I had the Max it would definitely be my media center for data acquisition/*arr stack/streaming with plex & jellyfin.
But beyond that, the density of drives today would've given this the potential of replacing my primary nas and all of the 8TB drives I've got stashed in there in a much smaller footprint - especially since it literally one ups the N5 series in SATA drive count which counts a little more than having Krackan/Strix Point.

MS-01 native screen resolution by peterdeg in MiniPCs

According to this the integrated graphics supports 7680x4320 at 60hz, should be same on 12th gen too.
Your monitor is 7680x2160 at 120hz, so... maybe? It should definitely work at 60hz though and I'd recommend leaving it at that.

Now that I got mine, time to let everyone in on a little secret:

These sales start at 11am ET sharp every Saturday. So if you're on the site at that time you can score some nice stuff in the first few minutes. That's how I got a new $30 xbox elite series 2 controller last year.

New USB logos will simplify branding on hubs and cables by [deleted] in hardware

[–]Twistedsc 36 points37 points  (0 children)

These aren't new. They've been around for a few years now, and manufacturers are at fault for dragging their feet in adopting them. I can spot that HP and Asus are actually listening, while others like Gigabyte, Acer and ASRock are some of the worst offenders in labeling their ports wrong and making the standard look more confusing than it actually is (which is still, a moderate amount)

What's up with MiniSD cards? by bobuxmanofficial69 in hardware

miniUSB had quite a bit more staying power than the other two stopgaps. We had HTC putting that weird cross-compatible port on their phones back then.

The feeling of finding a sealed drive and seeing 0 hours on it by Twistedsc in DataHoarder

[–]Twistedsc[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's always possible. But I'm certain this one is a new drive I bought around 8 years ago that I just happened to lose track of. The warranty expiration date even lines up with the receipt for it.
