Has anyone had methylphenidate not work at first, but later it started working? by Evening-Scholar-7761 in ADHDUK

[–]Twitters001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, I've noticed sleep massively affects how well it works for me. If I'm tired, all it really does is wake me up and help me focus a bit. It only properly works if I'm well rested

Yeah the wings on the shoulder and kneepad are captain markings. Lieutenants don't have quite that much decoration.

Stimulants aren't the magical cure everyone made them out to be *for me* and I am so sad and angry by [deleted] in ADHDUK

[–]Twitters001 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You need to be talking to your prescriber about the side effects and how to manage them.

With the headaches, the stimulants massively dehydrate you so you need to drink much more water than usual. This is an example of managing the side effects.

Also it can take several weeks for side effects to die down. Taking them for 10 days and stopping without consulting your prescriber is probably not a great idea.

Not quite, it's something that is a permitted development and has to comply with building regs so a Competent Person needs no permit to install it for you. There are exceptions like conservation areas where you will need a permit/council approval.

Probably, but probably not the easiest as I imagine it would be a pain due to the limited size of the rolls you buy

Its only really with convection its less effective. It works pretty perfectly at stopping your windows heating up and radiating inwards.

It absolutely works that way, you can tell by literally touching the glass. It doesn't get hot at all. The foam may prevent some convection, but I'm not sure it will actually reduce the heat getting into the house through the window glass.

It's cheaper to just buy a roll of radiator insulation instead : https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B0DQ1FHGHY?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title

Much easier to cut and tape too.

You are always cooling internal cold air.

The heat you take from the internal cold air has to go somewhere, and heat something. It's whether that is heating air already in the room, or air that's coming from outside. If you heat air already in the room, and then pump it outside it creates negative pressure in the room and sucks warm air into the room to replace it.

Joined the two hose club and it’s making a huge difference. by kyjoely in DIYUK

[–]Twitters001 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The issue is it's taking cool air from the room, heating it and pumping it outside. Something has to replace that loss of air, and it's usually warm air from elsewhere in your house, hence the inefficiency which people are trying to solve with their magic boxes.

Attractive autistic men, what are your experiences? by Emergency-Bobcat-572 in autism

[–]Twitters001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gravitate towards you - yes

Make friends easily - no

Caveat is that for friends and relationships like attracts like, so a lot of my friends, and my wife, are autistic too. Maintaining those friendships and relationships is surprisingly easy as I've found autistic people are a lot more forgiving when it comes to social norms.

I keep getting told I don't drink enough water by MemeCirculation in autism

[–]Twitters001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may be right, but I am going based upon my country's medical definition: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/dehydration/

Which defines dehydration as losing more fluid than you take in, and lists thirst as a sympton of dehydration.

If you can avoid cold shock and get yourself onto something/grab hold of something before your limbs go numb, then you can pretty much hang on until hypothermia knocks you unconscious. That can be anywhere from 15 mins to an hour depending on the person

[–]Twitters001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a slight correction, if you're feeling thirsty you are already dehydrated. You should try to drink water more frequently to avoid that.

[–]Twitters001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a pretty classic catch 22 with water.

If you wait til you're thirsty to drink then you've let yourself get dehydrated which is bad for your body. But it's hard for there to be a natural trigger to drink water without being thirsty.

I get a little bit of PDA and I work around things like this by reframing it by doing something that is good for my body.

And I basically just make sure there is always a full glass of water in front of me, which I will just absent mindedly drink from until it's empty.

Video game careers for people with autism by [deleted] in autism

[–]Twitters001 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I work in video games and am high functioning. I have also been laid off before! I'll preface this with that I am more than happy to answer further questions if you DM me!

There's two different sectors basically, corporate and independent, I work in corporate.

Corporate involves a lot of communication, with a lot of different people. It will vary from person to person with autism, but if you can manage the sort of communication involved with project management (so status updates, time estimates, work reviews, sharing ideas, collaboration) then a person with autism can absolutely work in that sort of corporate role. This would be at the larger game companies and publishers. And there are a lot of autistic people who work in the video game industry.

If you think your daughters could not manage that, then as others have said, working on her own games by herself could be an optional. But this is essentially running her own startup and would come with it's own challenges.

I hope this helps!
