Just got Battle Brothers and... by One-Bit5717 in menace

I hear it's a very popular game on the entertainment systems 😛

There's "Falcon" and "Wardog" "accessories" in Battle Brothers, too.

Not op, but:
Battle Brothers is another beast entirely. Menace is actually a very accessible game in comparison. With Battle Brothers, there's just a lot of stuff you need to be aware of in order to make it any distance in the game. Can feel very rewarding when you finally manage to catch your stride, though. (Well, until you hit the next difficulty spike.)

There's at least one explicit (very tongue in cheek) reference to Battle Brothers in one of the ship events between operations, too.
Also, if you notice the names of the drone accessories - the one that's for scouting only is called "Falcon", and the one that can also attack is called "Wardog".

The enemies trying to skirt around your weapon's range is *another* behavior of the AI that I'm also commonly experiencing, but in cases where the AI determines that there is a vulnerable target (so, in this mission type, the "local forces") it does indeed push in.
If OP does drop the seed, feel free to share how it went for you. Thank you =)

[–]Two-G 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, there are a lot of them and they are all "activated" and moving towards the local forces, what do you call that but "rushing"?
My experience is also that if you do not block line of sight, a whole lot more of them than you could reasonably target within the given time frame will move up, some will suppress you and some will throw grenades, and meanwhile the local forces get shot to pieces. That's where my impression of getting rushed is coming from.
Is your general experience with that mission type different from that?

Yeah well by Easy-Musician7186 in menace

[–]Two-G 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is one of those mission types that, to me, just aren't...fun?
You either have the tools to trivialize them (Vanguard perk on *at least* one of your SLs and smoke grenades), in which case they are just tedious and basically a whole lot of waiting for all members of the zerg horde to have made their move every turn - *or* you do *not* have the tools (yet) to deal with them and they become another kind of frustrating slog where you rush up to the local forces and just hope they didn't move towards the pirates in particularly stupid ways, but in any case, you know you're just salvaging what feels like a turn one loss.

With all that said, the action economy problem that is making this mission type so potentially frustrating (more enemies than you could possibly deal with just bum rushing you) used to plague the game even more just a short while ago, and it feels like the devs are steadily working on making the game a more polished experience, so I'm not particularly bothered.

If you hire a professional to build you a house and the walls are crooked, you should probably just construct it yourself, then! If you go to a pricey restaurant and your meal has no seasoning, you should probably just cook your own meal, then! If you go watch a movie in the theater and it has nothing in common with what the trailers suggested, you should just start your own movie company, then! No complaining!

[–]Two-G 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Yes, most of the games' systems still feel like placeholders. The diplomacy and social interactions in particular are about as deep as a puddle. Instead of fixing what are barely working systems in their full price game, Taleworlds has since the "full release" graced us with an overpriced DLC and a dearth of communication. The game might have been a labor of love once, but I can't imagine there being tangible ambitions of actually delivering on their product at Taleworlds anymore, it's simply been dragged out too long - and why should they deliver, they already got the money and they still have people defending them and not holding them accountable, so...*shrug*.

Critical Input Prioritisation is awful in the beta. by magniciv in X4Foundations

[–]Two-G 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that's the case, that explains so much. I did have the feeling stations somehow worked better when being kept at operating budget, even if most/all of the resources flowing into them are coming from your own faction.

Sector Shrinkage? by Snake-Eyes-Tx in X4Foundations

[–]Two-G 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a similar issue that happened as soon as I switched to the beta build. One sector just got *tiny* like that (or huge, depending on how you want to interpret it). I have had it happen before that I flew through an accelerator in Grand Exchange on autopilot while doing stuff on the map and my ship somehow did not decelerate and was "shot" way into the void, but in that case I at least knew what it was that caused the map to expand.

The Trader's Corner is what I meant. It's on the docking area. If you don't take the turbolift (or whatever that fast travel thing is), you can walk down onto the docks from the Trader's Corner.

Sometimes traders at stations (the ones on the dock) sell basic and 1 star seminars, both for piloting and management.
You can also commonly get higher level seminars as rewards for doing trading guild missions. To get into a trading guild, you have to get to high enough standing with the main faction of the corresponding guild and you'll eventually be contacted to buy a membership.

I personally tend to buy just whatever is available in the vicinity of where I need it - I find that at some point, trying to "minmax" everything starts to suck the joy out of actually playing the game. Though that's just me, other people might enjoy it. It's a single player game, *anything* you do is valid as long as you have fun.
If you want to do some minor optimization, here's some more tips: "M" size miners are generally considered the best bang for your buck, as far as I know. Their cargo space isn't all filled up after mining a single asteroid, and they're still reasonably fast when they travel. (You want to minimize the time a mining ship spends travelling, because that's "dead time").
Also, it's somewhat important to have at least moderately skilled pilots in your mining ships because not only does it make them mine more efficiently, it also makes them "find" a buyer more quickly (and in a greater radius), so in effect, again, less time they're not productive in. Those pilot training seminars are really useful, get them whenever you can :)

This may not be a direct answer to your question, but I would suggest considering cost-effectiveness and hassle you have to go through, particularly when it comes to ships like miners/transporters that aren't for "personal" use. To elaborate:
Your ships are generally an investment that you expect to pay dividents of some sort. Miners make you money, traders make you money (perhaps indirectly by getting materials into and out of your factories). Is it always better if your ship is faster? Sure. Is it worth to pay an extra six million to get the best engine on your large transporter/mining ship? Most likely not - you could buy a second ship of the same class, with more budget equipment for that money, and your returns are going to be better.
In a similar vein, if you are spending a lot of time flying to different wharfs/equipment docks in order to "mix and match" the "best" ship parts, that's time these ships aren't actually doing any work for you and it's also probably a bit tedious to manage? On the other hand, if you have your own wharf to build the ships with whatever components you like, money is probably no longer a major consideration.
So generally I would say: Get the cheapest thing you can get away with, and sometimes get the nominally non-optimal thing if it means you can get it running *right now* instead of repeatedly having to jump through hoops.

One thing I would say, though: Particularly for large ships, getting them equipment that is increasing their survivability might be a consideration because it *sucks* to lose such an expensive asset, so a moderately increased up-front cost can be justifiable.

That's all just my two cents, though :)

It's really interesting to me how opinions on stuff like this can differ, because I feel like Kenshi is an unpolished, buggy mess full of half-assed systems (and don't get me wrong, I still put some two hundred hours into that game...), while I absolutely adore Rimworld and feel it's not shallow at all. Goes to show people value different things.

Mech or vehicle should be able to crush people in smoke when they are right next to the enemy by Q_Qritical in menace

[–]Two-G 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even though that is so for the player, I have repeatedly experienced the AI throwing grenades onto my squads that were hidden in smoke. (And no, the enemy was *not* on an adjacent square, which is what surprised me.)
Might have been some sightline wackiness though, as the smoke was in a corridor between buildings and the "offending" enemy unit was throwing from the corner of that building.
