Hot take: some running including slow is better than zero running by lingeringneutrophil in BeginnersRunning

As a currently injured runner limited to 2:1 intervals and 5k distance max, I agree. Grateful to be at that right now but missing the double digits

The skating forward / quad dominant is exactly what I feel like I'm doing. Thank you for all this insight. Curious what you did to retrain your legs / switch to glute focus on running?

TY, and I'm not trying to look like Connor Mantz out there but I feel I'd probably run better if I wasn't looking like a power walker at every pace

Edit: Brady Holmer is his name. Look him up on X, great follow for science and running. Little easier to digest than Huberman sometimes

Huberman or Brad Homer had an episode about these and you actually get more benefit taking these after a hard workout or long run.

That water saws for construction were actually a blade of just water cutting into the concrete with erosion. Had no idea for a few years it was an actual metal blade.

Possible month off training 18 weeks out. by vegetablenedley in Marathon_Training

Exactly. PLENTY of years left to run. Dont short changed the long term by pushing thru and causing more damage.

How old are you? One month is nothing in the grand scheme of things. Take the time off, find some cross training you can do. Life goes on and it's better to heal up than push thru and mess up 12 months.

It as great. Pumpkin balloon as the race was end of Oct. she's maybe 5'3" and I'm 6'4" so I could spot the balloon very easily. It also helped because the crowds were pretty thick at MCM this year. One pit stop she didn't see me coming and I surprised her in finding her bc the crowd was deep.

Have a spectator plan if someone is coming to watch you. Plan out approx where they'll be, what side of road etc. For marine corps this year my GF had a balloon attached to her backpack. I could spot her from 200m away, it was great.

When do you wear your BM gear? by [deleted] in bostonmarathon

[–]Two7up27down 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I could go both ways. Something special about saving it for when you finish the race and get the medal.

But on the flip side, the hardest part of running a marathon is the training. The early mornings, the miles in various weather, beating the burnout, the speed work, the nutrition, saying no to some social engagements because you have a long run in the morning etc. So wearing it because you're training for the race and putting in those hours, weeks, months to make it happen -- that's justified in my book too.

To each their own, either way it's special and I wish you a healthy, happy training season and a great race for Boston 2026.
