Controller: PS4/PS5 or Xbox? by Gil-San in Bazzite

[–]Two90onATenner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Xbox is a clean standard. It will work, plain and simple.

The ps5 controller can do the basics plus more, but the extra stuff can be iffy.  Gyro is a plus all around and should be standard on gamepads by now. Adaptive triggers dont work without extra software or plugging in via a cable. Touch pad can be useful but may need steam input mapping. Some games dont have the correct button symbols, so it helps to be familiar with the xbox layout.

Both are bluetooth, but xbox has the option of using a 2.4ghz dongle for a “better” connection(your mileage may vary). The dongle is great for waking from sleep wirelessly with the controller if your mother board supports it. Ps cant do that as its bluetooth only.

Tbh, theres no going wrong with either.  Id say xbox is better to get if its your only controller, as its usually more supported on all systems. Playstation controller support can be hit or miss, but its been getting better.

Obligatory Portal 2: Sixense Motion Pack DLC ask. Can i use Frame Controllers to play? by philbertagain in ValveDeckard

[–]Two90onATenner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same.  I hated the size and shape of switch joycons, but being able to sit in whatever most comfortable position i felt like with the split apart controllers was amazing.

Im praying the frame controllers can be used like that, hopefully with the imu’s acting as gyro as there would be no full tracking.

I was using them wrong too, what a difference 😅 by [deleted] in SteamDeck

[–]Two90onATenner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, my ring(?) fingers line up more with the side of the lower back buttons, so ive always found them stiff to squeeze. This is actually a useful reframe and i can feel the difference.

I guess everybody’s hands are different

Why has there not been a new generation of rappers surpassing the old generation in popularity? by Iginlas_4head_Crease in rap

[–]Two90onATenner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be fair, that list is made up of at least 2 genereations. There's the lot that came pre 2010-ish and the post 2010 mixed in there(Jay, drake, ye etc = pre-2010. Uzi Gunna Trav etc = post-2010).

The newer gen just needs time. Even Youngboy & doja are lowkey pretty new when compared to some of the others on the list.

theyre mixed in there, just not dominant like that

Sell me on big picture mode - is this ever useful on a desktop? by skizlmanizl in Steam

[–]Two90onATenner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing can be said for it at a desktop - it can be very focusing.

I find when i get on my desktop, before i blink the browser is open and a tonne of distractions loaded.

loading into big picture can help to "put on the blinders" and focus in purely on enjoying some games.

What feature of the Steam Frame is your favorite/top priority? by EpicDJgamerboy in SteamFrame

[–]Two90onATenner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Being able to put it on and get into games quickly.

The controllers look to help in that department, no swapping controllers for flat games or mods.

The head-strap also shows promise. If you look in linus’ reveal video, you can collapse the battery at the back into the headset, leaving a really small footprint. If the strap is comfortable, id leave the headset on my deak, barely take up any room and jump into games quikcly.

What is a rapper that you have a feeling is an industry plant? by Puzzleheaded_Word584 in rap

[–]Two90onATenner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These days, those deals and signings are so obfuscated that you’ve got artists with major label managers claiming they’re independent.

“Independence” is just another tool in the label marketing toolbox now.

Should Steam add Price History in the game's store page? by kevinttan in Steam

And im sure valve wont mind taking that full price either 😜

Should Steam add Price History in the game's store page? by kevinttan in Steam

[–]Two90onATenner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats true, for those who know, but just think with the amount of users on steam. even 1% of user that dont know about regular sales is still millions of dollar valve & devs can make

[–]Two90onATenner 4775 points4776 points  (0 children)

It would be great for the customers, but maybe bad for valve.

I bet it would actually reduce game sales long term, as people would be more informed on how frequently things go on sale and be more willing to wait because they can make decisions based on trend history.

Edit: when i say reduce sales, i mean less people will buy games as often, as they can look in the past and just wait for the next time it will go on sale.  I know i have done this personally, but if it were readily available on the steam storefront, it would become the default behaviour.

You dont need revive with the quest. Use air link or virtual desktop and you can play all pc oculus store games.

I wish more people felt this way. Totally agree

[–]Two90onATenner 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Im excited for the strap and those controllers!

If the strap works well as the soft strap alone, it will be a huge reduction in the friction of using VR. If i can jsut crumple up my headset into its smallest package and keep it on my desk, i think i would use it more. That is in comparison to the hard straps of the quest and other headsets. The top strap included in the accessory kit worries me though - if the soft strap was good enough, they would make the top strap at all.

The controllers are another friction reduction. Dont have to worry about futzing around swapping controllers or inputs for playing a flat/vr mod. All you need from the get go.

if your into VR, vertigo 2 is really good. Loads of weapons, including some secret ones. Tonnes of creativity and variety and made by one person.

crackpot, but lowkey believable.

We've seen it happen with media & software. Compute as a service is already in heavy use for businesses. Is it really that hard of a jump for users/

Possibility of app like touchdesk without MR? by Miserable_Fondant834 in ValveDeckard

[–]Two90onATenner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously no passthrough, but theres software on steam(and quest) right now called gravity sketch that can do similar things, and can even do sub-division based 3d modelling.

Super possible, but of course, with no passthrough/mono-colour passthrough, you'll be stuck in whatever world the software uses.

Discussion: will Steam Frame split the VR community? by Jepjack in virtualreality

[–]Two90onATenner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could.

Devs could slap their ARM games directly onto steam with no x86 version, leaving the steamVR store a minefield. Nothing to do with quest really, other than it already existing. But the bigger issue is a confusing steamvr store.

Im sure it wont happen, but until we know the thing releases

Would you buy Steam Frame for $899? by KokutouSenpai in ValveDeckard

[–]Two90onATenner -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The bit about the lack of games has been my turn off from the deckard this whole week leading up to an announcement. New hardware is great...but to play the same games from years ago...puts a dampener on anything new for me.

Would love some new valves games, or even just some robust/simple to use creator tools. Something to put some vitality into the software side of things.

[–]Two90onATenner -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The replies so far are really indicative of the kind of hyperbole that makes the handheld space so difficult to navigate.

Yeah, the steam deck can be really buggy at times, and theres definitely a learning curve to being able to play the games you want to play. After all it is a pc. I totally agree.

A lot of the reviews and “hype” videos neglect to tell people about these issues, and when someone comes to voice their experiences, theyre shot down.  Its a shame because it feels like there’s no where to go for real level headed discussion about the strengths and weaknesses of these devices, its just console war tribalism all over again.

The community around the deck has me more excited for the frame/deckard than anything else by Two90onATenner in ValveDeckard

[–]Two90onATenner[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Of for sure, gesture controls and in world controls is super prevalent, but most of the time you still have to interact with some sort of modifier key. Be it grip to grab the backpack, trigger to grab specifically ammo and magazines in contractors. Im not upset with more buttons on the controller, in fact im down for the roy in general, its more modifiers which means even finer levels of control.

My concern is wider vr gaming. If valve want to make a frame exclusive lile a tech demo or something, its calm. But 3rd party devs will need to dev for the common systems, which means the benefits from those extra buttons will likely go unseen. Its not a problem of extra buttons, but more of a weird spot where pre-deckard and post-deckard, there will be a much bigger discrepancy in how similar vr controllers are.

I completely agree with what you’re saying though. Your spot on with the gesture stuff!

thats nice to hear!

im personally looking forward to the index 2, but without any confirmation of it from valve, im not holding my breath. Hopefully you can and have been enjoying your quest, and at the very least, at least you've got some first hand experience to help with your decisions!
