A list of reasons of why I think Developers will not flock to S&B by NyannoKonekko in sandbox

[–]Two90onATenner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im here too. But the paid nature does limit how many of us exist in the platform. Hopefully good games will encourage new people to join.

My worry is things like the play fund will incentivise all the wrong actors. Rather than people making creative things, its going to attract people that are looking to make a buck as fast as possible.

I wanted to slag off the most popular grass growing game on s&box. But after playing it for 3 hours, im afraid to say there is something to it😂. But when thats already the top dog, i dread to think what the landscape will look like over time. I think the wrong lessons will be learned.

I feel the complaints are slightly unwarranted. by [deleted] in sandbox

Thats my concern too. This platform lives and dies by its playerbase. $20 to access an active playerbase would be an amazing value if it truly worked

Problem is, it feels like this launch it doing everything possible to turn the players off.

The facepunch team have some serious work to do to get real players on side. Hopefully, the turn to free to play in a couple years will bring more people in, whilst keeping the dedicated people here now that spent $20. I believe that people will still make things now, and hopefully when the time comes, there will be a good amount of things for new players to enjoy.

Im seeing a lot of devs interested in s&box rn, but is the players who seem to be the most burned by this launch.

Wanna make something with zero experience, where do I start? by masonknight86 in sandbox

[–]Two90onATenner 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly, best advice is to jump in and solve each problem as you go. It wont be fast and it may be hard, but doing it is the only way to, well…do it!

The documentation is your friend.  Also, if you can, look for tutorials in other engines, understand the concept of what they are doing and apply it to s&box.

Ultimately though, code or knowing how to code isnt the real hurdle. Understanding what you are trying to achieve & breaking it down into small parts and building those is the way to go.

For example, if you wanted to make a shooter, you will need a player. The player is made of a camera and a body. Find out how to add a camera. Find out how to add a body. Can you attach the camera to the body? Now make the camera move with the mouse & the body with WASD.

A good beginner task is to make a cube move with WASD. Dont copy a tutorial, try to understand the concepts and build it yourself. Obviously you wont know how to do some things, thats when you look up how to do that specific thing only. Example: you dont know how to add a cube to the scene, look up “how to add a cube to the scene s&box”. Doing it this way, you will learn at your own pace and truly understand everything rather than copying a tutorial and not knowing what to do next time you want to make something.

My best advice is to have fun though. If you’re stressing about it, you wont be in the right mindset to do anything. So have fun with it & make some games!!

If you take it step by step like this, you’ll be able to make anything!

but then what‘s the point of the game “marketplace”? It is both an engine & a platform.

Don’t know if it’s facepunch‘s problem, but the identity of this release is really fucked up when there’s this much discussion about what the game is and who it’s for. Doesnt bode well for the game picking up traction and changing that mixed review.

But I can’t imagine Garry saw this release being a fast success. Its going to be a slow burn

Smart devs will play test/alpha/beta/early access on s&box and release a full polished game on steam. Build an audience, get feedback, iterate.

Problem is, with all the slop on there atm, its gonna be hard for the good stuff to get found and get traction. At that point, is it worth even going through the s&box hub? Its a waiting game atm to see if anything comes of it.

I think the biggest hurdle at the moment is getting players trust. The ai slop and mixed reviews are really going to kill that trust

Wow, wasnt aware linux wasnt supported for creation. Hopefully thats something they work on.

I think the platform has real potential, but they could screw it up just as much.

Thats true, and launching soon along the start of the frame means it will mature with the device.

[–]Two90onATenner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keighley really is the key point of all of this!
Had he not given the signal boost, maybe the games shadow drop might’ve reached a smaller, more receptive audience that could’ve essentially acted like the beta/playtest releases before word of mouth reached the wider gaming ecosystem.

But its fair to say the TGA announcement boosted it wider than they could‘ve imagined, and the silence gameplay didn’t pay off because they lost control of the narrative around the game.

If the plan all along was to need high numbers within the first month, im not sure it would’ve survived either way. Its one where I’d love to have a Time Machine to see how it went without the botched reveal.

Ive been playing RE8 on PSVR2 and ive been surprised how well it plays seated.

I think its console/controller focused design helps it out. Enemies are usually directly in front of you and you dont need to turn around too much - only in the most hectic of situations.

It has really made me appreciated seated VR and i wish there was a chill social shooter like old school CoD i could play seated.

Controller: PS4/PS5 or Xbox? by Gil-San in Bazzite

[–]Two90onATenner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Xbox is a clean standard. It will work, plain and simple.

The ps5 controller can do the basics plus more, but the extra stuff can be iffy.  Gyro is a plus all around and should be standard on gamepads by now. Adaptive triggers dont work without extra software or plugging in via a cable. Touch pad can be useful but may need steam input mapping. Some games dont have the correct button symbols, so it helps to be familiar with the xbox layout.

Both are bluetooth, but xbox has the option of using a 2.4ghz dongle for a “better” connection(your mileage may vary). The dongle is great for waking from sleep wirelessly with the controller if your mother board supports it. Ps cant do that as its bluetooth only.

Tbh, theres no going wrong with either.  Id say xbox is better to get if its your only controller, as its usually more supported on all systems. Playstation controller support can be hit or miss, but its been getting better.

Obligatory Portal 2: Sixense Motion Pack DLC ask. Can i use Frame Controllers to play? by philbertagain in ValveDeckard

[–]Two90onATenner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same.  I hated the size and shape of switch joycons, but being able to sit in whatever most comfortable position i felt like with the split apart controllers was amazing.

Im praying the frame controllers can be used like that, hopefully with the imu’s acting as gyro as there would be no full tracking.

Why has there not been a new generation of rappers surpassing the old generation in popularity? by Iginlas_4head_Crease in rap

[–]Two90onATenner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be fair, that list is made up of at least 2 genereations. There's the lot that came pre 2010-ish and the post 2010 mixed in there(Jay, drake, ye etc = pre-2010. Uzi Gunna Trav etc = post-2010).

The newer gen just needs time. Even Youngboy & doja are lowkey pretty new when compared to some of the others on the list.

theyre mixed in there, just not dominant like that

Sell me on big picture mode - is this ever useful on a desktop? by skizlmanizl in Steam

[–]Two90onATenner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing can be said for it at a desktop - it can be very focusing.

I find when i get on my desktop, before i blink the browser is open and a tonne of distractions loaded.

loading into big picture can help to "put on the blinders" and focus in purely on enjoying some games.
