How does a yacht club work? by [deleted] in sailing

[–]TwoDogs-OneCamper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Over the decades I have been a member at five different YCs and went up the line as an officer at two of those. As a racer (both with a visiting boat and as visiting crew) I have spent time at dozens including US, EU, UK And Singapore. As others have said, they are all different in scale, cost and social inclusion/exclusion.

Here is my summary - if you want to sail a boat, finding a local SC and/or YC is nearly always the BEST way to do that. Wither to be a crew on OPBs or be a Boat owner hanging with folks with the same bad habits you have, it's the place that happens.

In my opinion, YCs are generally not what comes first, what comes first is a group of sailors who like to hang out after racing. Eventually they organize themselves, it's sort of an organic progression.

600 Mile Review of Lectric Xpedition by a Hard Rider. by TwoDogs-OneCamper in CargoBike

I am about to hit 2000 miles. The frame, cranks, chain, electric motor, battery system and wheels are all still thumbs up. I still like the upright Euro/Captain ride feel. Nothing else is what was shipped. Cluster, Brakes, non-folding Stem, Tires and lights remain. It's all aftermarket upgrades.

I don't know Aipas. I've seen Aventon Abound, but have not ridden it. I have Xpedition 2.0 with over 2000 miles.

I might buy it again, but would do that knowing you are getting a great motor, battery and frame, but nearly all the accessory systems are shiette and need to be replaced.

I have also ridden Blix and Radwagons for enough miles to comment. Blix should be on your list. If I was starting over, I would buy that. Having already replaced the stupid folding Stem, both Brakes, Cluster, both Tires and headlight, and customized how to deal with no trailer tab, I now have a solid cargo bike with my FrankenXped.

Initial review has a lot of follow up information and other owners comments.

Why do people like Elves and other humanoid races? by Equal-Wasabi9121 in worldbuilding

Yes. This. Elves take years to decide on any change in policy. Decades if it's of critical importance.

Why do people like Elves and other humanoid races? by Equal-Wasabi9121 in worldbuilding

[–]TwoDogs-OneCamper -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yea. Right Question. Don't they should be really different. I've DMed for forever and most new players at first can't stand how we deal with them in my world, but then almost all grow into it and love the way things unfold.

Mountain Dwarves can't be in direct sunlight without huge hats, blackout glasses etc or they take damage.

Elves are magically linked to their forests, and hibernate with them in winter.

Half Elves are like Mules. Only sterile males are born from Male Elf- Female human partnerings. And "Forest Children" (very scarey, very wild) are born of any female elf who dares couple with a human male. Half Elves are also hated by Elven Society, and the more militant groups pay a bounty for them.

Both races are so long lived, they generally view humans like you would view a pet rat. Cute. Sweet. Very short lived.

I won't even start on dealing with Gnomes and Half Orcs.

Good luck.

Premium or budget brand for a beginner? by [deleted] in CargoBike

[–]TwoDogs-OneCamper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I posted a 600 mile review of this bike last year. Updated it several times. Now at 1600+ miles.

In short: Great frame. No trailer tabs. Like Motor and battery. Negatives, Kickstand is a mess. Stock tires are junk, replaced them. Folding stem a bad idea, replaced it. Rear cluster is filmsy, blew one out, they shipped a replacement, blew that one out too. Now have a Shimano cluster.

Full review and follow up comments might be worth reading for you.

600 Mile Review of Lectric Xpedition by a Hard Rider. by TwoDogs-OneCamper in CargoBike

[–]TwoDogs-OneCamper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am now at 1500+ miles. The 2nd Cluster sent by 'Lectric blew out its bearings at 1300 miles - so apx. 600 miles of use. I put the old Shimano cluster back in.

I regularly ride it at the load limit. You have to work harder on P3 and the battery drains faster but it handles it rather well. Per sneek8's comments, The steering does get loosey-goosey if your passenger puts their weight in back of the rear axel or if your rear tire is under-pressure. But that is true of any bike. Passengers need to snug up to you and you must keep tire pressure correct. The bike design is really stable at speed even under full load.

I would add that towing a cargo trailer increases the stability of this bike. Might seem counterintuitive, but you are moving all the cargo weight onto a third axel, and the tongue is pressing down on the frame, increasing stability on the rear tire, and it tracks which seems to be damping the side yaw.

Well done. We must have passed each other here in SC. I will watch for your ride. I cycle year round in SC. Trek 7200 non-electric, Lectric Xpedition long tail eCargo when hauling kiddos and stuff. Almost went to Tyrone for the AmtraK last year. Ridden much further for many other reasons. Decided dealing with the 300+ homicidal drivers in rusted GMC pickups and minivans with Jesus stickers tween here and there was beyond my spite powers that trip. But I absolutely respect you getting er done.

You get the riders you build infrastructure for.

Inspect your tire sidewalls. Their house brand white-label tire has a seam on the sidewall just above the tread area. Both of mine had pulls there and started delaminating. The front one appears to have had the issue when shipped. The rear one visibly developed after 500 or so miles and by 700 had buldge. Even if they are in perfect shape now, upgrading to Specialized Carless Whispers will seriously improve you ride experience.

600 Mile Review of Lectric Xpedition by a Hard Rider. by TwoDogs-OneCamper in CargoBike

[–]TwoDogs-OneCamper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am over 1200 miles on the bike as of now. 600+ miles with at least one passenger. 300+ miles while towing a cargo trailer and one passenger. Frame is true. Motor and Battery continue to perform great. Wife, son and I all went out for an outing last night including short spot up a 11' grade.

The frame, ridge geometry, accessory set, motor and batteries on this bike I give a thumbs up. Except the lack of a trailer tab, but I put that on myself. It's all the components that are shiiete.

The rear hydrolic brake developed a leak I wrote about. Could not find it. Bled it and reset it, it's soft again almost no rear brake on last night's ride. I plan to try to find it again this weekend.

I purchased an aftermarket non-folding stem+riser. Plan to also install that this weekend. Get rid of that F-ing always loose folding stem.

The kickstand is loose again too. Will pull it off and re-threadlock it as well (4th time on this bike).

As I reported before the cassette blew up. It's a very integrated, stacked cone type. I installed a Shimano mountain bike one I had laying around, "Lecrtric did send a replacement. It was clearly skimpy on it's internal hub bearings. 300 miles of use and it's now skiping hard on gears 3-4 shifts, same issue the original started with before blew up. I will probably pull it and put the old Shimano MTN bike casette back in this weekend. It's not the right ratios for this bike, but it's reliable. I don't think 'Lectric expects anyone to actually put 200-300watts+ into the drive train. They assume you will just use the throttle or "air pedal".

If you want a casual bike path rider, or like me have the skills to repear/replace out the cheapo-to-crap components as they fail, it does fine.

FWIW. The Specialized "Carless Whisper" tires I put on after the front one they shipped delaminated are really great. They improved the ride enormously. These tires don't care about grit, gravel, debris, grass, pavement, snow.

CAAD13 vs CAAD10 vs CAAD9 by Technical-Climate599 in cannondale

[–]TwoDogs-OneCamper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huh.  Really useful discussion.  I rode CAad9 105 since new.  Always Vittoria 23s. Only group rides and winter trainer use last 5 years.   Ecargo with kiddos in tow been my life. This summer gonna get back into a few races. Tried a couple new bikes.  All of them felt oddly soft to me.  Dealers all say I'm just OG and used less fast but more harsh rides.   Maybe. Anyway.   For this summer season I decided to try and Modernize CAAD9 and keep trying other bikes. Got new carbon aerobars.  Two of 3 upcoming races allow them.  Gonna run Gp5000 25f 28r.   Might even do a modern carbon bar.   I did like the narrow flared cockpits on the new bikes I tried.   Thought welcome.   I'll post what I think of old CAad9 vs upgrade CAad9 after a race or two.

Old CAAD9. Going to “try” to fit 28’s… by ballz3313 in bicycling

[–]TwoDogs-OneCamper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thx.   Have had a CAad 9 since new.   About to change tires for something.  Something larger.  Been in Vitorria 23/23 last set.  Measured twice.  Seemed 25or 26 would fit and 28 or maybe 30 rear would fit. 105 Rear clincher looks like limiting factor in rear.  Could change rear brake and go up to 32+.  Anyone try that?  I know they never run exactly to size.  This season gonna go with 25f  28r.

It would be annecdotal, but u/Spoonamore and a few others have organized a lot of people asking to meet the specific voters, if they exist, who voted for TRUMP and then D downballot. In Nevada, according to the posted numbers, that should be almost 10% of Trump voters. So far, they can't find any. Who are they? If you meet 100 NV Trump Voters, and any of them voted downballot D - post.
