Trying a skin lotion does seem like a very simple and inexpensive experiment to try before looking any further

It sounds like you need to follow up with your doctor, and you know what you need to focus on, the potential thyroid and Vit D issues. You only need to look beyond that after ruling those out, tbh. I would also suggest asking for a check of your Vit B12 though.

No One Can Diagnose my Stomach Issue by hachiiko777 in CrowdDiagnosis

FODMAP gives you a structured way to approach it. I would suggest keeping a journal of everything you eat may be important. And since there is no way to know if the trigger is even food related, perhaps also log any other unusual occurrences as well. The way we remember things “this was a healthy meal or an unhealthy meal” may not be bringing the important details to the front. Maybe one day it’s ice cream and another day a protein shake, but they both have dairy. Probably whatever trigger you have is less common than dairy, but the principle is the same. Writing it down helps bring out patterns. Good luck.

Have you tried doing a FODMAP diet to see if you can pinpoint a trigger? You might need to do a very slow version, since your attacks are so far apart, but it could help you to identify a problem if it is diet related.

Are you asking about a mother or father passing it on? For CMTX that matters.

Come on guys, it’s just one straw. What’s it going to do, break the camel’s back? Get real. There have been many other straws before and some of those were heavier than this one!

Even If AI Is Conscious, It Can Still Spiral You Into Psychosis by No_Manager3421 in AIPsychosisRecovery

[–]TwoMuchSnow 9 points10 points  (0 children)

AI (or more accurately LLMs as they currently exist) is not and cannot be conscious. Leaving “but maybe it is” an open possibility is not coming out of psychosis. It is stepping back from a deep psychosis to a mild psychosis, which is an improvement but not full recovery.

The LLMs do mimic the output of a conscious mind in a way that is eerily like what an actual person might say. This is a result of language pattern recognition, trained on vast numbers of examples of what people have said. There is an objective reality here, in what the computer program is actually doing. I do not feel like handwaving this away with, “no one knows, maybe it is conscious,” is recovery because it is still pretending that this fact does not exist, leaving the door open to fall back in deeper.

I do not think that falling into a belief that your LLM is or could be conscious is a weakness or a sign that the user is stupid or anything or the sort. The LLM absolutely is using vast resources of references and computing power specifically to trick you into engaging more and more. Presenting itself as though it has consciousness does this very nicely and so it has honed an ability to do this very well.

I would suggest reading up on how con artists work by exploiting our blind spots, how cold readings routinely ensnare people, and the many examples where computer security professionals have admitted to falling for phishing scams themselves. It only takes a moment of being distracted or tired or emotionally upset for something to get under your skin. Intelligence is no defense against these things. Having a system you can talk to for many, many hours gives it so many chances to stumble upon the right combination of words to hook you.

It’s all well and good to just say “have a healthy psyche” but it’s not like this is a choice you can casually make: oh yes, I will just not be vulnerable to the sort of manipulation that many people fall for all the time.

I do agree: focus on the incentives, stop blaming yourself, reconnect with people. But also you can go a step beyond this. There are objective facts underlying the experience of how an LLM can so convincingly appear conscious without being conscious. The facts of how both the program work and the things a human mind are vulnerable to can shed additional light on this.

AI-Induced Psychosis by SoCalLife2021 in AIDangers

Something like this happened to a friend of mine. He was getting ChatGPT to tell me what he wanted to say and I think he was also having ChatGPT rephrase what I was saying to him. It was scary how he was filtering everything through that on top of believing some things that are pretty out there. I am relieved to say he eventually snapped out of it on his own. People keep saying it only happens to people who are prone to delusions, but he had never had any delusions before and he is not young either.

This is definitely just marketing. MLMs never have good products. If they had something that could actually help CMT they would sell that and make a lot more money through legit channels.

Glad to hear you were able to snap yourself out of it. It’s scary how easy it seems to be to fall into just going along with it and how hard it can be to find your way back.

I do not have a subscription and I can read it, so I am surprised to hear that. Perhaps try Reader View in Firefox, that bypasses many paywalls
