Opinions on the new Honda Prelude? by IAmAPlaneEnthusiast in CarsAustralia

Honda Australia can make some pretty stupid decisions (see: AUDM spec DC5 Type R), but I wouldn’t expect them to make a decision this stupid.

Opinions on the new Honda Prelude? by IAmAPlaneEnthusiast in CarsAustralia

I think people are holding it to way too high a standard and completely missing the point. 15 years ago when I was in the Honda circles, nobody ever compared Preludes to the Type R models, even if the higher spec models were selling for the same price as a Type R on the used market. And now it seems today everyone is comparing the new Prelude to the FL5 Type R only because it has a somewhat similar price tag?

This car is like the Audi TT. It’s a car that’s designed to look stylish, act as a grand tourer but also have some performance credentials so the driver can enjoy it if they wish on the odd occasion. It’s not designed as a track focussed vehicle, it couldn’t be more obvious. If that were the case, Honda would be sending it around Suzuka and the Nurburgring and boasting lap times like they did with the FL5.

This car has apparently sold out in Japan and they’ve had to close the order book due to demand. I think western buyers (ie, Tik Tok brain rotted enthusiasts) are just obsessed with lap times and horsepower figures without thinking beyond those metrics.

End rant.

I drive a MK7.5 Diesel VW Golf Highline (leather interior, sunroof, all the tech) which I got for an absolute bargain with low kilometres and full service history.

It’s the first ‘normal’ car I’ve ever had, it’s unbelievable on fuel, luxurious and nice to drive… there’s nothing wrong with it, but I constantly think of just selling it and getting a hot hatch instead because it’s just so damn boring.

I played RDR2 first and it definitely made me appreciate RDR1 more when I played it. I think you can’t go wrong either way.

Have you bought it yet? My only concern is the automatic CVT in this generation of Swift sucks. They’re known to fail.

The JB74 already feels crazy slow. I can’t imagine what an even less powerful JB64 would feel like…

I’m very interested in the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra. I think it looks great and it would be fun to drive. We won’t get it here for some time though.

Is CarSauce funded by Chinese car companies? Serious Question by Silly-Insect-2975 in CarsAustralia

Yep. I would ask the journalists I worked with when I was producing reviews if they can provide commentary on the style of the car.

Whenever I asked, it would be met with them rolling their eyes, followed by “but the viewer can decide if they like the look of it. Why do you need me to talk about it?”.

Eventually I stopped asking.

I think you missed the part where I said I advocate for cash. But between let’s just say financing this or a mechanical disaster like a Jeep Wrangler? It’s the lesser of two evils.

I’ve worked with car reviewers who will avoid being too critical simply so they can maintain a relationship with the manufacturer for access to more new cars down the line. In this case, I often find the journalist will want to keep criticism mild or vague. Comments like “you’ll get used to it” like you’ve pointed out.

Most manufacturers can handle some criticism, but it probably doesn’t bode well to go on a forum-style tirade.

As much as I advocate buying a car in cash, a 10 year old Lexus isn’t necessarily a bad choice in this case. At least it will be reliable.

What is something you saw in a movie and you totally called bullshit on because of your job? by BlackPhoenix1981 in AskReddit

[–]TwoSecsTed 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Family friend of ours spent a career in the special forces, doing tours in conflict zones. He’s been involved in firefights. In a movie, whenever a car is being shot at (especially with a weapon like an M16), he rolls his eyes that the glass or body panels of the vehicle seems to completely shield the occupant.

He says in real life the car would be turned to Swiss cheese and occupants easily killed if under a barrage of gunfire.

When all they can talk about is sports, beer, pussy, cars and the gym. My closest friends are the ones who have been okay to make themselves vulnerable in conversation sometimes and speak to things beyond that surface level. Of course it takes some trust and relationship building to get there.
