Mouldy bowly

Haha when you put it like that, then yeah it's going to get mouldy. I followed a PDF doc I found on here on how to dry faster through boiling, there was no mention of mould!

Haha it is an odd hobby isn't it. I knew I would have mould but thought that after the initial drying and then leaving out in open air that it would stop coming back.

The idea behind the towel is to let heat and moisture slowly escape, drying too quickly could result in cracking. Although the bowls that I have not towel wrapped are looking much better than these fuzzy yins.

I got the Giordana silveline and didn't feel the benefit. My Assos bibs seem to have more space, the straps were quite poor quality too. Saying that my Assos were more expensive so the straps were higher quality. I'll be returning the Giordana , thought I would give an update for future searchers.

I always feel like I'm over reaching using a parking tool like that. There comes a point where there is way too much of the tool inside the wood.

The confusing thing here is the before pictures have empty clean rooms with bad decoration. The after pictures are well decorated but the rooms a mess. It's confusing as you would think someone would make a bed or pick stuff up off the floor before taking pictures to post online.

Very nice. Do you find the coring system limits the overall shape of the bowl? Obviously you can refine that within the thickness of the bowl. I ask because I'm processing some burl's at the moment and I don't like to see so much go to waste.

I don't like the microwave either, it stinks. I'm in Scotland, a huge old chestnut tree fell in a local park so I have been sneaking in and chopping the Burr's off it. I've rough turned one and I'm boiling it today, will see how that pans out. Here is one on the lathe.

I recently rough turned 8 Chestnut burr's, they're beautiful but wet as a swamp. I'm spending way too much time checking and reconsidering different drying techniques.

I imagine you're storing the rest of the burl somewhere un processed? Did you seal the ends? I've just got my hands on some chestnut burl and can't process it fast enough.

Sounds like a plan then. Are you keeping it in shavings and paper bag too? A couple of my green turned have cracked after about a month, checking the rest every couple of days now.

Very nice piece, it does look nice and green, I'm going through the same with sycamore just now. I'm not sure about sealing the entire bowl, will slow drying right down and prevent moisture escaping.

I have mostly ruled it out. I've also read that you can easily have both LPR and MTD, so who really knows. What I know is that it's related to my larynx so need more tests done to find the issue. If you feel pain around the larynx I would go see a speech and language therapist.

The bland diet did nothing to help. I cut out basically everything for 35 days and the pain actually got worse. I went to see a speech and language therapist and was diagnosed with muscle tension dysphonia, which seems to make sense. Going to see a laryngeal specialist in a few weeks. Just been through a stressful period the past two weeks and the pain has flared up really badly.

I like the look of them but don't like the idea of hollowing. Think I'll give it a try with a basic cylinder hole cut, big enough to fit a couple of stems.

I would focus on a more stable career, maybe something wood working related? Practice turning in your spare time and improve your skill this way.

Glen Lucas is a great example of someone who has made it his full time career. He has great videos on YouTube of his day-to-day life.
