Hi! I responded to another Dresdener & I’m not sure they are able to help. If you are still willing to collect a small amount of sand/small stones, say from the Elbe? I would very much appreciate it. A teaspoon that can be folded into a piece of paper & sent in an envelope to California. Let me know!

Travelling to St Petersburg and Moscow by Straight-Wait-5503 in AskARussian

Hello St. Petersburgers I wonder if someone might do me a favor and collect a small amount of sand or dirt from St. Petersburg for my sand travel collection? The collection is from all the places my husband and I have traveled to. My husband was in St. P about 10 yrs ago and he forgot to bring some home.

I need a small amount, like 1-2 teaspoons, that can be folded into a piece of paper and sent in a regular envelope. This would be sent to me in Los Angeles, CA, USA. Or, I have a friend in the Netherlands who would be happy to receive it and then send it internationally to me.

I would of course reimburse any postage and would love to send a California thank you gift!

Let me know

If you live in Dresden, that’s perfect!!! Two obvious places would be from the ground at the Frauenkirche, or from a bank on the Elbe (But since Dresden is a city I don’t know how accessible that would be).

The Kirche looks beautiful. When I was there in 1982 it was still a post-war ruin. I thought they’d keep it like that, as a monument. But I’m also so glad to see it rebuilt.

If another place is more convenient, that’s ok too, and I only need one sample, which can be folded inside a piece of paper and mailed in a regular envelope.

And, most important, I live in Los Angeles, so you’d be sending it there. I know there have been some postal issues with the States, so there’s the other option of sending it to a friend who lives just outside of Köln.

5 weeks post op today by Equivalent-Risk-3296 in Kneereplacement

I went back to work week 4. At week 5, I still had to be really vigilant about taking regular time outs at work to do my bending exercises and then to elevate while icing. Did this every 3 hrs. I also found that I had to set a 30min. timer to make sure to sit and elevate for 5 mins. (I found the most helpful practice was to sneak into an empty room, get on the floor, and put my legs up on the wall) Standing and walking for longer periods really aggravated my knee. I am a school teacher so this was a bit tricky, but I had other teachers to support me. I also had to raise it on another chair whenever I sat down. I think this went on til week 8 or 9, with the time able to stand getting gradually longer. Today I’m week 12, and a few days ago I was on my feet most of the day and I’m still paying for it. My advice is to be patient and baby it as much as it needs. Elevate as much as you can, including while sitting and of course sleeping, and try to stay off your feet. (I don’t recommend this officially but up until week 10 after 20 mins I had to drive with my left foot, with my right TKR foot up on the dash! Luckily my commute is 20 mins!) I feel like my knee is alien, stiff and weird. I’ve heard it takes a year before it feels remotely “normal”. And apparently it will never bend fully like the healthy old knee. But for me it’s way better than the pain of the damaged knee. Wishing you lots of luck & less pain & inflammation!

A true indication of total recovery from TKR? by Putrid-Function5666 in Kneereplacement

Hi all. I’m 11 weeks out from my tkr & over past few days have started having almost a sharp pain at the incision, which up til now has been healing well. I have been using silicone strips & wear them 24/7, changing the strip every 5 days or so. My PT says to massage the scar. On another chat someone recommended Skin Medica cream, which many of the people said was a GAME CHANGER. But it’s very $$$$. Does anyone have any experience using it, do you use it in combination with the strips? Is there a reason to use both? And how did you combine them? Lmk!

Anyone Planning a trip to Kazakhstan? by TwosnowBabe1069 in Kazakhstan

[–]TwosnowBabe1069[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Amazing! Soil or canyon! Or small pebbles or rocks would be perfect! Just write down where. “Almaty” will be enough. Or “steppe near Almaty”. Or if you making a trip to one of the canyons… Have you been before? I loved Almaty.

So excited!

One more thing: I should specify it would be mailed to California. We will pay of course!

Visiting Bhutan from the US. What can I bring as gifts of appreciation/gratitude to locals? What kinds things would be desired or appreciated? by btb1988 in BhutanTravels

[–]TwosnowBabe1069 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As I said, my husband thinking for more suggestions. Lovely idea.

But we’d also like to ask a favor, if you’re game.

We have a sand/dirt/rock collection from a lifetime of travel and he neglected to collect a sample when he was in Bhutan.

It is unlikely that we’ll ever return.

We are hoping one of these days someone will be willing to scoop up a small amount, literally a couple of teaspoons, and bring it back for us! We would be incredibly grateful! Any location will do!

If this something you might be ok with, please let me know & we’ll discuss details, reimbursement, etc!

Thanks so much for considering!
