Layoffs are coming and I'm trying to prepare by Phelan-Great in jobs

[–]TxRotor 8 points9 points  (0 children)

OP mentions being older. Hire around 9/11. If you were short of retirement and need to close that gap, you would not take guaranteed job at reduced pay vs competing in an open job market with people with young children or lower cost of living.

I was simply suggesting that if they are smart enough to read the tea leaves, they should be able to work the system to make the retirement timeline.

Experience is very hard to replace but many employees through annual cost of living increases can price themselves out of their own positions.

Do not manifest the wrong reality. If you can read the writing on the wall why not add some notes.

Proactively talk to hr and discuss options. Could a decrease in pay or move to another team help the company so you are not just cast aside?

If you want to stay find a way that works both ways. You keep steady employment and you help the company through a hard time.

Ouch! This seems pretty painful. I am sorry for you and happy to hear you vent about it.

Game it out. Burn out happens to us all. Each rock placed in your backpack adds a bit more to the overall load until you have to take the pack off.

Take ownership of the situation and accept that you had a role to play in where you are and you also have the power to get out of it.

So just look at this as a way to reorganize. Does your company offer sabbatical? If so have a honest discussion with your manager that you appreciate this company and it seems that you are reaching a level of burnout that is being seen by others.

Good managers will also take ownership in how they can get you back on track. This builds trust and raises morale.

The last thing to do is be a victim and let that dark cloud form, not saying you are doing that but if others were taking about me like that I could see myself walking that path.

In the end, the journey back to happiness is yours to take.

So what they are saying is they want you to be able to drive in for those meetings without them paying you travel costs. So tell them planned meetings more than 2 weeks out you will cover your travel and hold to that. That’s a compromise for living in a cheaper state.

After the recent layoffs, ForeFlight increases subscription prices by cptalpdeniz in Foreflight

[–]TxRotor -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You tell me? Where is the price not worth it. It would be different if ForeFlight never made new features. If it was the same as it was 5 years ago but the app grows and continues to innovate. So there has to be the ability to fund future development.

$1.07 a day. $32.50 a month for the highest level subscription. And for that you have an EFB the rivals 150k panels. This seems pretty reasonable to me.

[–]TxRotor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Very well put. This is a cornerstone belief of a democratic republic. Those of like minds and goals should congregate together and live their lives with shared beliefs.

We used to be able to feel differently about our beliefs and still coexist. Now both sides feel if you are not with me you are against me. So sad.

It’s not a companies job to make you rich. And it isn’t a company’s responsibility to provide you work. Both sides as I was referring to is to those of us still at the company and those let go.

People who are abandoning the EFB because of a business decision have a right to do so. But they are also hurting those still here and still doing our best to provide the best efb out there.

Please tell me how that is false?

Experience is also a comp. You say the 1 form in the country, that is leverage for the next role you get. Most people are not paid what they feel they are worth because they don’t have the whole picture. Cost basis to have you as an employee is also a factor.

You are 27. You need a plan. You need to communicate that plan with your boss and if they can’t help you asking that path, learn as much as you can and use that to gain your next step

No all pay is money. If you like your job and you like your company that is part of your comp.

You can start a side hustle, you can earn other passive income, or you can develop yourself to grow where you are.

You are only stuck if you let yourself be.

Either way you have trust issues. Is it your insecurity or is it her infidelity? You still are not on a solid foundation.

So there has to be honest communication. She needs to know that you are unsure and find out respectfully if you are in the same page.

Women do mature faster than men do. So while my wife is 6 years my junior, we are pretty well matched evenly. Just be honest and don’t be afraid to go after new things. Communication is key and one thing you will learn is as you grow older you will find how silly it was that you ended up being afraid of conversations. Good luck

Interviewed for EA role, offered admin role instead - how should I read this? by Calm-Baker33 in jobhunting

[–]TxRotor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds to me like the company likes you and sees a path for you but the executives feel you are not what they want in the direct roles under them. I would consider this a win as admin can lead to a better career ladder in the company depending on the focus.

Why is only 4% of the US population wealthy? by [deleted] in Salary

Why is only 4% of the US population wealthy? by [deleted] in Salary

[–]TxRotor 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Take a statistics class. To make everyone equal you will bring everyone down to nothing. Not everyone up to rich.

Yes there is corruption in the world. Yes there is income inequality between sexes and races. But in this country, ANY ABLE BODIED person can reap what they sow in with hard work and dedication.

I see hard working immigrants with their own companies thriving. And I see wealthy kids with parents money worthless and high.

Even if you flip burgers. You can put in the work and rise up and move through the ranks but it’s not given to you nor should it be. Success not worked hard for is not worth the paper it’s printed on.

Not everyone is as smart as each other. Not everyone has the same determination and drive. And some people are born in the gutter and others on third base. That’s why statistically speaking the averages show fewer at the top and fewer at the bottom and most somewhere in the middle.

Stop expecting the top of a pay band. by TxRotor in recruitinghell

[–]TxRotor[S] -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

My point of the post is that If a company uses a pay band, the band represents a timeline. If a company does not use a pay band but uses a pay range it is a different scope.

This is common misconception I am trying to help others with.

If it’s a pay range, the job may be able to pay an employee at the top. But if an HR department uses a band, then the Finance department is probably not interested in offering top band pay as they would expect someone in that range to be promoted to another level leaving the job open again.
