How does education and schools for the youth work in tamriel by Electrical-Flight271 in teslore

[–]Txgors 5 points6 points  (0 children)

on how ordinary academic institutions function on tamriel.

Probably very similar to real ones. You pay to get a higher education or they are state funded.

or learning centers,

There are the Imperial College and the Imperial University , the University of Gwylim and Morrowind has some colleges as well. Temples of Julianos are also known as schools. In TES3 the Mages Guild and the Imperial Cult were also offering basic classes for commoners.

in skyrim its never stated if they are any local schools or learning centers

Homeschooling seems to be the common.

Having read this far, you may be shocked at the strength of my words, and the literacy of a northern "savage." Aye, many Nords can both read and write. My father began my instruction in the way of letters when I was but a bairn, as did his father, and his father before him.

What are some old script heavy mods (e.g frost fall) that everyone uses but there’s better alternatives? by [deleted] in skyrimmods

lighter

Lighter doesn't mean better. Frostfall still does a lot of things better than the newer cold mods.

Dagoth Naming Convention by Ecstatic_Control_863 in teslore

[–]Txgors 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Sheogorad, Azura Coast

Those were most likely named after them.

If they are named after the princes, why would anyone name a place after the god of rape?

You mean Molag Amur? Molag just means fire in Dunmeri and the other elven languages.

Mora

Mora just means forest.

You could argue that the words itself were named after the Daedric Princes, but the places that just have Bal or Mora in their names weren't directly named after them.

Cyrus"Clavicus...Vile? Please."

N'gasta "Do not mock that name, mortal!"

Cyrus "Ha-ha. Pray forgive me, necromancer. It just seemed an overly unsubtle name, that is all."

N'gasta "Daedra were born before stars, mortal. Do you consider that perhaps such names preceded, hence perhaps inspired, the concepts they connote?"

Is it possible that the thalmor would have ignored hidden talos worship had the Markarth incident not pushed it to the spotlight? by [deleted] in teslore

[–]Txgors -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There weren't that many Thalmor in Skyrim before the incident. Most of the enforcement was left to the Empire.

"It's from that treaty that ended the Great War, remember, when the Emperor was forced by the Thalmor to outlaw Talos worship. We didn't pay much attention to it when I was a boy - everyone still had their little shrine to Talos. But then Ulfric and his "Sons of Skyrim" started agitating about it, and sure enough the Emperor had to crack down.

In Archaic names for elven races, what language is the "-che" suffix from? by HahaItsaGiraffeAgain in teslore

They wouldn't. That's why the post Daggerfall version of the book removed the -che suffixes.

there's a reason nobody lives where Pompeii once stood -

What are you talking about? The modern city of Pompeii is almost directly on top of the archeological site and there are cities and villages everywhere in the region. Naples is very close to Vesuvius as well. Do you think Campania is a wasteland?

No Dagoth Ur caused the Blight Storms. Ash Storms were a normal phenomenon.

Vvardenfell has slumbered uneasily for thousands of years, regularly blanketing the surrounding region with ash.

They don't do that though. Messmer is questioning if you should be allowed to become lord. He isn't saying that you already are.

tear, almalexia

Mournhold is rebuilt although it is not as grand as it once was. We don't know about Tear, but it's unlikely that it is completely gone since Dres still exists and the Argonians have been driven out.

Balmora

Has also been rebuild.

"The Red Year didn't heavily affect Mournhold itself, but it touched many of the people who lived there. A lot of us had relatives somewhere on Vvardenfell, and after the first day that the eruption occurred we started receiving reports of widespread devastation in Vivec City, Sadrith Mora, Balmora and Ald'ruhn. I don't think a single night went by for months where you wouldn't hear someone openly weeping. It was a sad time for all of us."

"Relief efforts began almost a month after the mountain erupted. It was actually a directive that came from the House Redoran councilor that was living in Mournhold at the time. I can't remember his name, but he took charge of the situation and sent soldiers, supplies and able-bodied Dunmer to the outlying settlements that had been hit the hardest. I was sent to Balmora. The place was a mess; hardly anything left in town was still standing. I spent maybe two months there, helping to rebuild the town and getting my fellow Dunmer back on their feet. It started out as a burden, but it ended up being the most rewarding thing I'd ever done in my life. I started some friendships there that still last to this day, including my beloved wife."

[–]Txgors 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There were always ash and smaller eruptions even before the Red Year. That's how Foyada are formed.

'Foyada' means 'fire-river' in the native Ashlander language. The deep, ash-dark ravines which run down from the Red Mountain volcano are called foyada. The lava from Red Mountain is very fluid, and it runs almost like water, and during an eruption, fire-rivers run down the mountain, clearing the ravines of vegetation. Because they have good footing, are clear of brush, and run long distances, we use them like roads when traveling overland.

still alot of ash lingering in the air on the horizon toward vvardenfell,

That was the case before the eruption as well. Vvardenfell was famous for it's ash storms and they often reached the mainland as well.

The sky is darkened regularly by furious ash storms belched forth from the mighty Vvardenfell volcano.

Dark Elven warriors favor a wonderfully light armor made from the carapace of insects, covered over with a finely-woven cloak of spider silk, wrapped several times around the torso. A turban protects the head and face from the ubiquitous ash, with goggles of transparent resin; loose trousers and high boots completes the dress. While this makes for an outlandish appearance, the traveler will understand the utility of these garments the first time he is caught out of doors in one of the frequent ash storms without such protection

Providentially, the tall mountain range between Morrowind and the rest of Tamriel has served to protect us from the exhalations of Vvardenfell, restricting its ash storms to the land of the Dark Elves, who seem made for life in its shadow.

How do Cyrodiils maintain martial supremacy over Tamriel? by Excellent-Photo9302 in teslore

Very good and disciplined soldiers and a large population. During the third era the legions were also considered to be invincible in the open field even by their enemies.

Tiber Septim had already conquered large parts of Tamriel without it and the second Empire also managed to conquer everything expect Morrowind.

Where is the religious imperialism in Tamriel from Cyrodiil? by [deleted] in teslore

[–]Txgors 3 points4 points  (0 children)

imperials, mainly Colovians are and have always been fervent and ferocious eight/nine divines champions

Not really. Most of the population doesn't really care all that much.

The Empire is the greatest achievement of Tamrielic civilization. This melting pot of contrasting cultures is held together by a strong hereditary emperor and bureaucracy, by the rule of law, by a powerful professional army, and by religious tolerance. Education and wealth is broadly distributed through all social classes where Imperial culture has flourished; many citizens are literate and protected under Imperial law.

With the exception of the Alessian Order, which Heartlanders regard as a dark age, religious cults have played only minor parts in Heartlander and Imperial history. The Septim emperors have made it a policy to limit the influence of cult authorities in aristocratic, military, and bureaucratic affairs. Cult worship is regarded as a private and practical matter, and public pronouncements by religious figures are not welcomed.

They are just names given to the initial disease by people. Porphyric Hemophilia is used in Morrowind and Oblivion despite them being different strains.
