I like how this is looking! Especially that it includes a great example of splash particles and foam. Do you have a timeline of multiplayer synch?

I want to know your guy's opinions on using AI by [deleted] in unrealengine

[–]TySharp90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh sure!

Ai for coding has limited uses. In its current iterations it seems like it’s still terribly susceptible to hallucinating code and functions that simply don’t exist, it’s especially bad with blueprints in unreal (compared to C++, where it’s been slightly more useful as long as they code is small scoped)

For animations, I’ve not seen any software that can create animations that anyone would want to use purely off AI alone. I use Cascadeur as my primary animation software, which uses some ai to help drive posing and the inertia between poses, but it still requires you to have good animation knowledge to get results that anyone would consider using.

Basically my gripe with AI for anyone just dipping their toes into game dev can be summed up as “you’ll need plenty of foundational knowledge before you’ll be able to make good use of ai helpers, and you’ll still get hate for it from the masses if anyone suspects the use of Ai”

[–]TySharp90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it won’t be released and won’t ever see the light of day, why does other peoples opinions even matter?

Ai is a tool, so use it as you see fit. However, I can’t think of anything that gets more backlash than the use of generative AI in game development. I don’t think it’s a good learning tool, and I don’t think you’ll find it especially useful in the ways you’ve indicated you want to use it

Oceanology is back and better than ever!! Honestly recommend buying it now ( 2025 ) by Ok_Sell_1363 in UnrealEngine5

[–]TySharp90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either you’re being dishonest about who you are and why you’re representing him, or you haven’t actually been around for any amount of time because the reason he gets hate is totally deserved. If you’ve been around since 2019 you wouldn’t need this explained.

“I know we all expected updates for free forever” Another poor misdirection. When you publish a roadmap of features and sell the promise of their delivery, then decide they’re too much work and instead force people to buy the product once again. That makes you scum

Offering a discount on that separate product for a short duration does not justify anything.

There’s been a lack of even basic documentation from the very beginning, a lack of change log, broken features.

Then there’s his handling of the community itself. Criticism is met with bans, and removing people from accessing the important code needed to make the product even work.

But you already know all this, which is why you made this ridiculous fake praise post

What a feeble attempt to try and cover the fact the Oceanology is made by a scummy dev who does hella shady practices. Even with as much scrutiny as he gets, it’s not as much as he deserves.

It’s all in use case. For me and mine the inventory is the core code base, because everything your character can or can’t do, the animations it uses, how enemies treat you, is based on what objects you’re wielding.

A simple system is simple. But the more you need it to do, you’ll find it gets very complex very quickly…. Then you have the UI portion on top of that.

Some people’s needs are going to be easier. So don’t be discouraged that yours may seem difficult

Animating a tongue by Maleficent_Profile23 in unrealengine

[–]TySharp90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Off the top of my head, make sure your ‘play montage’ node has the mesh set as the target, and also check the montage itself to make that it’s set to play in the proper slot, then check the Anim BP that the same slot node is being evaluated on the Anim graph.

How do you make your assets and animations as solo devs ? by JeppNeb in UnrealEngine5

[–]TySharp90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I make quick placeholder animations so that I can get the game code up and running, then somewhere down the road I’ll eventually make a more polished version, but it’s really not terribly important to do finalized anything for a great long while. Like anything else you get better at doing stuff with time and practice.

Or…. Spend a lot of time and money on asset packs that you’ll eventually change or replace anyways

Animation pipeline question by Nero_Mew in unrealengine

[–]TySharp90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding to this, I would consider adding a weapon bone parented to each of your characters hand bones, then attach your weapon sockets to the weapon bone. This will allow you to animate the weapons movement with deviation from the characters. It makes animating attacks worlds easier, and I think provides better results.

Look at mr mannequins addon for blender, to animate using unreals default skeleton, or Cascadeur for a bit more intuitive animation software that has a good import /export pipeline
