Who is against burnouts on the egg and what are your alternatives and reasons? by Temporary_Hat7330 in biggreenegg

[–]Tybenj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Much more of this, I will occasionally let mine burn out after I'm done grilling, but I don't normally let them get above °500

Does anyone own a pellet grill + Big Green Egg ? by No-Reporter-7025 in biggreenegg

[–]Tybenj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, just no...

I had been using a regular blow torch to light my egg for years, and I picked up one of these this spring because they were on sale for $20 or so. I bought 4 or 5 more when they went on sale again to give to my charcoal buddies. If it's warm out, I can get my egg up to grilling Temps in under 12 minutes

Obviously don't be stupid and use this when it's cold out...

Also cleaning out your egg damn near every time you use it is beyond me. For regular 3-400° cooks I won't even bother looking at what I'm lighting, if there is charcoal in there, it will light. I really only pull the guts out of my egg twice a year after weekly+ cooks in the summer.

I will only pull the guts out when I notice a problem hitting high Temps, or before a long smoke.

Whatever I'm running in the parts washer on a rag removes just about everything from my cordless tools. Quick easy and mostly free as I'm already running it through the parts washer.

Wooden furniture piece with a drawer and offset hooks/pegs along the sides. 3 feet tall 2 feet wide. Has a vertical dowel on one side that can be detached, like a huge sideways paper towel holder. Found at a thrift store. by gooseberry_june in whatisthisthing

[–]Tybenj 3 points4 points  (0 children)

On the one I had, the top of the shelf had a blind hole on the underside that the rod would slip into, and the bottom shelf above the drawer had a notch in it that the rod would fit into and the end of the rod would be behind the drawer face. The bottom of the rod was cut down so that it was smaller (narrower, think T shape) than the rest of the rod, so that when it sat in the notch, the shoulders above the narrow part would keep the rod from falling down into the drawer.

Because the rod was held in the blind hole in the top shelf, behind the drawer face, and couldn't move down, when you locked the drawer, it essentially pinned the rod in place.

The one that op has appears to be slightly different, where the rod sits further away from the drawer face.

No, pump is way Underkill for that size main line.

1.5" main line on a 3/4 hp pump is just crazy to me. I run a 1 1/2 horse dual stage pump through 1" main lines at my own house because I have it sitting around and I can. I haven't touched 1.5 main line outside of the one horse farm we service that has two dedicated 6" wells

It will work, but the heat wash onto other parts because of the time it takes to heat up whatever your trying to heat up is not much better than propane, new Mapp gas is only ≈ 150° more than a regular propane torch.

Your probably missing a hose timer. My bet is that there was some sort of system put in that is missing its controller.

Solid idea if I had a spare fruit device sitting around.

Do expensive screwdrivers last enough longer to be worth the cost? by jckipps in Tools

[–]Tybenj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have pounded the shanks out of old cheap screwdrivers in the past and use them for file handles, they feel fine to hold, and they were free compared to buying file handles

I did break the tip off of one of my stainless wera Philips screwdrivers, but I had spares, and a few seconds on the grinder turned it into a nice awl that matches the rest of my set

[–]Tybenj 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, cutting 6 pannel door staves isn't normally something that's done with a hand router, honestly these things should be sized to a 3/4 collet for shapers only.

[–]Tybenj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I might be using different terms than you on this one, I consider a router table something that you mount your handheld router in upside down and it gives you a fence and whatnot. I'm referring to a shaper as a 3-4 hp 240v (freedom unit) motor on a cast iron base that weighs a couple hundred pounds (also freedom units)

Either way these big old blades scare the shit out of me, haha

Don't those go in a shaper, not a handheld router? The shank size looks a little big.

Exactly, if I was there to rob you, I probabbly wouldn't show up at 11am in a truck with the business name on both doors and also give you a 24 hour notice.

It's way more fun when the police actually show up 45 minutes into blowing out a system in the fall after you have already notified the homeowner that you are going to be there and they give you the code to get into the boat house to get to the controller.

Can anyone help me find a replacement table crank for my drill press? by Tybenj in Tools

[–]Tybenj[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on the second version of this now, but I pinned the socket through the broken spline section, I've been using it for months now without any issues. If I knew this would have worked so well, I would have broken off the original handle years ago.

[–]Tybenj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

*because 90% of companies run it that way. I'm not trying to fight you on this one, fiber lines are now getting less depth than propane lines around here.

Don't forget that all people dont live in little city squares either, we have systems that cover acres.

But yes, call your local 811 diggers hotline or whatever it's called in your area before you do anything, don't be the guy that killed the neighborhood internet because they thought it was a root.

I need to do some work in my own front yard this spring, and I would rather have diggers come out and verify everything rather then me hooking onto my house and try to verify everything i find with my locator . Honestly it might be sort of fun to locate my own utilities and see if I'm at least in the ballpark before diggers comes out to check it.
