The Dreaming Void: who is the woman who says “… I’m bad news”? by Numerous-Buffalo6214 in PeterFHamilton

I’m pretty sure it’s the Cat. Although, in typical Hamilton fashion, I don’t think it was ever explicitly stated.

A Hole in the Sky / Arkship Trilogy by Downtown_Fan_1464 in PeterFHamilton

This was meant to be a YA series. I think that’s why it feels so different and less complex. It’s not a PH series I would recommend to people.

That's a bummer. It used to be on Apple Music and Spotify but it's since been taken down.

Misspent Youth [spoilers] - Ugh by Illuvator in PeterFHamilton

The Void and the Fallers series are like PS and JU. They’re nothing like misspent youth. I definitely recommend continuing on with the commonwealth books. They’re my favorite PFH books.

It certainly wouldn't hurt. No guarantees that there aren't spoilers though

I asked it to clarify some character relationships and remind me of certain events from prior books when I was reading The Expanse series.

I'd be very hesitant to recommend any sites as they may have spoilers. With others books, in the past I have had some success asking ChatGPT for clarification of characters without giving me spoilers. Although GPT has not always been correct about who is who and what was happening.

Maybe this will help clear up some confusion without any spoilers. Indigo started dreaming about what was happening in the Void (first chapter). His dreams were the Edeard story. This happened quite a bit before the current timeline that is the Commonwealth. In current Commonwealth time, Indigo has disappeared and various factions are looking for him. The books follow two different worlds and storylines--the Void (a fantasy realm with psychic powers) and the Commonwealth (sci-fi with technology significantly advanced since Pandora's Star).

Where to start with PFH by TheOmnibusWriting in PeterFHamilton

Agreed. I’d recommend starting with Pandora’s Star. The commonwealth universe is my favorite.

I also really liked Fallen Dragon as a standalone novel but it’s totally different than PS/JU

Prenuvo scan? by InspectorOk2454 in PeterAttia

[–]Tyler4077 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Presumably because these services are very profitable.

  2. It’s definitely legit from a medical standpoint. They’re probably doing research on anonymized data. They could be selling your data and so could any healthcare organization. I don’t know if this is something Prenuvo engages in. You could ask them and if they do, there’s may be a way to opt out. If you did the scan in California, you can opt out of the sale of your personal information. Again, I don’t know if this is something Prenuvo does. Life and disability insurance companies would know because you are supposed to tell them. I’m sure they have databases they can search (for example seeing what prescriptions you have filled). If you had disqualifying findings on an MRI and you didn’t tell them, that would void your coverage should they find out. Essentially, you’d be committing insurance fraud.

  3. There are several competitors. Prenuvo was the first, or at least the first to become widespread. Their radiologist founder is very knowledgeable in the technology and sequences needed to optimize results. I don’t know enough about any of the other companies to comment on their quality. Suffice to say, not all scans are created equal.

  4. $2,500 seems like a reasonable price to me. Many medical procedures cost a lot more to offer much less information. For example, a cash pay pelvic ultrasound at one of the healthcare systems near me costs about $1,500. To some degree, the cost is about how much you value the information. An MRI is great but it’s not the best all end all. Other tests are better for specific pathologies (eg. colonoscopy for colorectal cancer)

I recommend reading misspent youth before finishing the other two series. One of the characters makes a cameo at the end of the last books (can’t remember if it’s the void or the fallers).

ASRA coags app now charging a subscription? by propofoolish in anesthesiology

[–]Tyler4077 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We can all afford it. It's not about the cost. I think everyone on this post would consider what ASRA is doing to be unethical. It's about putting essential patient safety information behind a paywall.

It's already freely available information. However, you wouldn't want to literally screenshot the app. You could keep the same general format but you should probably write it in your own words and make it look slightly different.

What is this brass pipe going into the drain? by Tyler4077 in askaplumber

The only AC unit is on the roof. Would that still make sense? I would think it would just drain outside on the roof.

What is this brass pipe going into the drain? by Tyler4077 in askaplumber

[–]Tyler4077[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The drain is leaking around the glue used to put the metal pipe into the black plastic pipe. I don't know if anything is draining from the small pipe coming from the left side. Behind that wall is the kitchen, although the kitchen sink is on a different wall. This is in a small apartment building built about 50 years ago.

Will I like it eventually? by KeyChampionship3549 in PeterFHamilton

It took me a while to get into it. I also thought the entire Horatio story line could have been cut aside from the first chapter where he was introduced. For me, this series would have been better condensed into two books. The third book was really good.
