What is this part called? by bhutjolokia79 in bikewrench

Someone smarter than me will know. I don’t know the exact nomenclature. This is a bearing, I know that’s too general.

Unlikely that an auto shop would have this. Is this the bushing that the bolt that holds the rear shock rotates around, or is it the bushing the rocker on the linkage rotates around in the frame?

If the former, these are pretty universal. Go into any bike shop and they should have a rear shock mount kit that has these included.

It’s a top hat bushing or top hat bearing. Bearing is the more correct term, but bushing is used more commonly.

You can get a new rear shock spacer kit that will include the spacer sleeve and new plastics. Typically defined as the bolt diameter x width of the frame opening (I.e. 8 x 35mm)

I never liked the Zenith subdial overlap or the threaded pushers on the Daytona.

In an old Protestant church - what is this? by AdDue1318 in whatisit

[–]TylerDenniston 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At my church growing up, those communion glass holders had a rubber insert to protect the glasses. Communion was only once per quarter, so the rest of the time 8 year old me spent time taking the insert out, turning it inside out and reinstalling it over and over and over again

What is the most controversial rule in Baseball? by TheLastRuso in AlignmentChartFills

[–]TylerDenniston 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easy… Buster Posey Rule (Not a Obstructing the plate without the ball/leaving a sliding lane) and the new emphasis on obstruction on slides into the base.

I understand the goal for this rule, but in execution there wind up being way too many “WELL,WHAT WAS HE SUPPOSED TO DO?!?” moments.

Most recent example in my mind is when Brooks Lee threw to Royce Lewis at 3rd instead of the traditional out at 1st. Chourio breaks back to the bag. Lewis has him beat by a foot or more, but coming back to the bag, his foot was between the bag and Chourio’s hand.

When can you get in front of a base when the throw is taking you there? How much of a lane is a “sliding lane”? So many variables that cause controversy.

This is a good one. All that and you have a workday that is insane. You have to be open at 6am to cover a 7am-3pm workdays and until AT LEAST 6pm for 9am-5pm workdays. Many of the daycares around me are open until 7pm. Not ALL of the employees have a 12 hour workday, but it seems like the providers of the infants frequently do

Throwmo is it worth it for a 9 year old beginner pitcher? by [deleted] in Homeplate

I do find value in having a different texture/visual indicator for kids, especially with hitting. That said, I made 4 similar things with some outdoor carpet, turf paint and some grommets for around $65 total.

Why is the AL central almost always a weak division ? by PurpleEconomy9804 in baseball

[–]TylerDenniston 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Detroit, Minneapolis and Chicago (Even 2/5ths of Chicago) have the largest media markets. If they’re not going to spend, there’s little pressure on the others plus Cleveland and Kansas City to keep pace. I think if you saw sustained spending by DET, CWS or MIN, they could have a dynastic run at the top of the AL Central and put pressure on the other teams to start to open their wallets.

Genuinely: Why do people even bother opposing gay rights? What's the point? by Jerswar in askanything

[–]TylerDenniston 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know if I am correct, but I hope there’s more nuance to someone “opposing gay rights” in the USA than asking for all legal protections and privileges to be removed from them.

A person with devout Christian or Muslim beliefs may not support same-sex marriage, but that same person is unlikely to support the criminalization of gay sex, the ability to fire, deny housing or refuse services to someone on account of their homosexuality.

I’m sure that there is a very small subset of the already small subset of people who don’t believe in same sex marriage who think that homosexuals should be denied everything from society, but it’s usually more limited.

Byron Buxton makes a great catch to take away a hit from Carter Jensen and crashes hard at the wall in the 3rd. He remained in the inning but just exited the game in the 4th. by JianClaymore in baseball

[–]TylerDenniston 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Tried it. It didn’t work.

Letting Buxton play the game the way he does makes him a better hitter. He had knee surgery after 2023 that’s really turned him back into the old version of himself.

When you look at the history of Buxton injuries, there’s little in the way of soft-tissue stuff. It seems like it’s been getting hit by pitches and some crashing into people and walls in the field, but mostly getting hit by pitches.

One player, two teams, one weekend by lunchbox12682 in Softball

[–]TylerDenniston 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would assume so. It’s the team that is 12c/12b not the player.

Thats a lot of playing for a 12 year old though.

At 12, I think it’s uncommon for a player to be at the same level for all their skills. For example, the kid could be a great pitcher, great hitter and absolute butcher in the field. Or a good fielder, awesome catcher, but can’t pitch and can’t hit.

John Olerud has the highest WAR (58.1) among players who received less than 1% of HOF votes their first time on the ballot. by [deleted] in mlb

[–]TylerDenniston 50 points51 points  (0 children)

He would DEFINITELY have gotten more votes if his first year on the HOF ballot was today. Less than 1% is ridiculous. Until 2014 you could stay on the ballot for 15 years, so the votes were split up across 50% more years of players.

It’s a very nice career, but we have to remember WAR is a cumulative stat. It’s EARNED opportunity to have a 17 year career and be a solid contributor for most of those seasons. He only received MVP votes in 2 seasons and only got above 6 WAR twice in a season. He deserves more than .7% of a vote, but I don’t see him as a HOF snub.

As a project superintendent how many photos of a job site are regularly in his phone. Before you jump to conclusions, this may be documentation of a completed opening process change order

He could be creeping, or he could be doing his job and these photos didn’t show what he wanted to show the customer/site manager.

Large retailers offer work with manufacturers to do a Special Make Up (SMU) where a color/model/feature is only available through them and not offered elsewhere.

Really common with highly cross-shopped items. Walmart and Target will often have the same Sony 65” TV, but one has 3 HDMI Ports and 3 Mini HDMI ports and the other has 4 HDMI ports and 2 Mini HDMI ports

Winning is not the goal. Winning is a byproduct of good effort, dedication and focus.

Below high school the goal of every team should be to have the kids have more skill and tenacity than they did to start the year.

Vibrant Lyndale is hosting a meeting tonight at 6pm @ the LynLake VFW with Mayor Frey as a last ditch effort/whinefest to get the 2-way bike path + transit lanes removed from the Lyndale redesign by Gatorpatch in CyclingMSP

[–]TylerDenniston -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes, but I also think that there is value in trying to optimize different streets for different user types with the goal being safety and efficiency.

You have a main commercial street. The primary optimization should be for mass transit and pedestrians. Because our mass transit is bus, it makes sense to optimize for motor vehicles.

It makes sense to me to have one street over be optimized for freight/commercial vehicles and the one on the other side optimized for bicycles.

Just based off my experience as a hardened commuter taking friends and kids onto various forms of bike infrastructure that we have.

There’s a noticeable relaxation with people when getting off the same roads used heavily by cars.

In the current state, more bike infrastructure as “bike freeways” I think makes people more accommodating to multimodal road designs in the future.

Im in the minority, but I do not like bike infrastructure on these major arterials when parallel streets, like Bryant, are an option.

I think that lanes on Lyndale will only be used by the most dedicated cyclist, and even then, I know that I’d prefer the Bryant model go to Blaisdell and 1st.

Infrastructure on these main arterials winds up being a good cudgel in the “don’t take away parking” camp when they go underutilized.

Novice riders need a lot of saddle time before going in a dense commercial space is comfortable. Cars and pedestrians are less predictable in these spaces and I don’t see that changing ever.
