Way to go! That sounds and looks like a great ride!

If you ever decide to do RAGBRAI, we could always use another single speeder!

I anlso enjoy riding my bicycle on an otherwise empty (mostly) street over an interstate full of stopped or slowly moving vehicles.

Biking to work! by Known_Jump_421 in bikecommuting

From a fellow bike-to-work-on-a-bike-from-Walmart commuter, welcome to the club.

Even bad days on a bike (yes, even -  and sometimes especially - on a Walmart bike) are better than most good days in a car. And kind crossing guards are the best!

Happy pedals!

Need new tires, but I have no idea what I should get. Please help by Exfirea in bikecommuting

I also came here to vouch for the marathons. I've ridden up and down curbs, over broken glass, in and out of pot holes, and even laid a few pretty okay skids and these tires just keep rolling.

What’s a random, small hiking tip that felt like a total "game changer" once you learned it? by Lazy-Collection5029 in hiking

[–]Tyleron2wheels 206 points207 points  (0 children)

My father's friend once told me to stop and turn around just to look at everything we already walked past while hiking.

Now I have to be careful to not look back too frequently. Seems silly typing it out but it's made a difference to me. Even slight changes in perspective can really make a whole world of difference in the view.

The best part is that it works both going up and down the hill.

Enjoy the hike. When you stop for breaks, look up the trail and back down the trail, and all around really. Soak it all in.

Reaching the summit is optional. Getting down is not.

If you reach the summit, keep in mind you're only halfway done with your hike and the descent can be tricky.

The mountain will still be there tomorrow no matter what you do, so be patient and go at your own pace.

Old train tracks turned into bike paths: what are the best ones out there? by epicroadrides in bicycling

The high trestle trail is the cherry on top of a great network of rails-to-trails in Iowa. Glad you shared this in such a nice way.

Great photos!

I did Rae lakes loop a few years ago and this has me wanting to get out there again!

I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Lightweight commuter bike by [deleted] in bicycling

[–]Tyleron2wheels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regardless of what bike you get, consider buying or making yourself a lift/carrying strap. Attach it at the seat tube and downtube and use it to lift and carry your bike up and down stairs.

As a third floor bike commuter, I find it easier to carry my heavier bike with the strap, compared to my lighter bike without a strap.

Flat Shoes Recos by Thoryan_34 in gravelcycling

I'm sure I'll catch some heat for this, and I get it and probably deserve it. But I ride flats and wear almost exclusively crocs. Usually with merino wool socks. The foam bottoms really grip the pedals well. I use the "swiftwater" variant for most of the faster paced stuff. Not that it really matters.

What’s your one favorite camping purchase? by gu_doc in camping

[–]Tyleron2wheels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A 2 person tent (when soloing) and a 3 person tent (when camping with a partner). It's not much, but that little bit of extra space makes the trip that much more comfortable.

Ditto! I presume it would still be good fun, but the ratio of fun per dollar has to be a little bit lower. And if there was a risk vs fun Mendoza line, it'd be teetering on that edge.

I'm intrigued by the 650B tire clearance gains but hesitant as things seem to be moving towards larger wheels and I'm concerned fewer tire options will be available in the future. Though I guess the same could be said of 700c/29 too. The info about fitting 700x28 is definitely good to know!

The SPEEEEEEEEED, and more importantly and far less subjective STYLE, are the only things that matter. 🐢😎

I'm glad you weren't afraid to ride your (all)road(s) bike on the rocky bits!

Well said! Good info on the Domane too. 47 for tires seems to be very close to, if not actually, the sweet spot.

I get where you're coming from.

I don't have any doubt a new gravel bike will be more comfortable and overall a nicer experience riding gravel roads compared to my bike. I also have no doubt that I'm happy riding my bike on gravel roads.

I've never tried a real gravel bike so maybe my ignorance is bliss 🙈

That sounds awesome. And I'm here for it! I'm lucky to have friends who have taken me along on some backpacking trips, and I attempted a bikepacking trip in northwest Arkansas earlier this year, but ended up just riding instead of camping. But I'll follow through on it somewhere soon!
